Hello Sweet Lady , I wanted to ask if you felt ok to share what School Program did you work with to get your Guide Hero ? And if it’s ok to ask …. About how long after you finished your application was it for you to get matched and bond with your forever HERO ? I am so excited just knowing I may get to get that help to help me LIVE . I am a new subscriber today . I am glad I seen your video . Thank you for all you do to share with other handlers . Thanks a ton ! I would love it if you can share some more on guide schools that you may be familiar with . I also wonder if it’s possible to get approved in another country like Canada ? I have to get better !

I was born 13 weeks premature, 47 years ago they didn't know to cover my eyes, do to that my left eye was scared and severe mypoia, astigmatism corrected I'm at 20/400 that eye also now is awaiting cataract removal. With the right eye are 20/40 corrected for distance, but will well be adding bi-focal lenses soon. And recently they took my driver's license. Due to the cataract and recent vitreous detachment in the "good eye".
And my current PTSD service dog ( great dane) is looking for the squeaky toy! So cute!!

Hey there! I totally understand. I don't have the same eye condition, but I am legally blind with aniridia, nystagmus, and glaucoma. Thanks for sharing! I just found your channel and subscribed. :) Will be looking forward to more of your videos in the future! We blind youtubers show that NOTHING can limit us and blindness/visually impaired-ness doesn't define us!! 👍❤️

I've recently gone legally blind just in my left eye. Very rapid onset keratoconus so I'm possibly going to be able to get a transplanted cornea and wear prosthetic contacts to return my sight partially. I've been falling constantly as my depth perception looking down is drastically effected. Amazingly enough I'm still able to drive as that's a different type of depth perception/ vision.
My biggest fear is this happening to my right eye as well as I live a very rural life and have young kids. We'd have to relocate nearly a hour just to get to a bus route.
While I wait for a transplant I don't know what to do to help limit my falling as I see getting out of my car with my kids and unfolding a cane to help me navigate potholes ect would lead to some ridiculous drama.
I'm training a SD to mitigate a disability that caused the eye problem... do you think it would be possible to have him trained to "navigage" those holes ect?

I'm sorry to hear about your situation; that sounds really stressful. But yes, you should be able to train your SD to guide you as long as it's a large enough breed. I don't think small dogs can guide because guiding is considered light mobility, but I could be wrong, I'm not a dog training expert by any means. A lot of Service Dogs, even for people who aren't blind, have guide tasks to help their handlers after a medical event when they have trouble walking / navigating. I don't know the details of how to train that because my dog is from a program, but if you have a private trainer helping you, they should be able to assist with that. I would think that even just adding a pull strap to your dog's vest would work at first since harnesses are expensive. I think typically you would teach the dog to pull first by pulling back on the harness handle/pull strap, and then praising / rewarding when they pull forward. Dogs have an oppositional reflex, so that shouldn't be too hard. Then you would add the "forward" command. But I'm really not a dog trainer so I can't give too much advice beyond that. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I wish you the best of luck!
