      Hey Mary! You're awesome!
(I've always dreamed of having a Flying V electric guitar... but with NYLON strings!)
Perhaps you can help us spread the word: UKEs should be taught in every elementary school on earth! They're like kittens... you don't have to feed! (I also got a zillion adults to love uke... b/c they tried guitar and the metal strings turned them off. Even a 5 year old can start playing songs on uke in seconds!! Simple and fun!!) (Ha: I wrote to Mike Bloomturd to ask him to buy ukes for every child on earth, during Covfefe 19.) (I'm sure he loves to be geniuinely altruistic!) (S)
I'm a street performer (Tronic Uke!) in NYC / New England and to my shock, strangers go apeshit for what I do. (The web has made it so most ppl have to "up the dose" and they want to see stuff they've never seen before!) (I gotta find a great street drummer though! KNOW ANY in New England?) xoxoxoxo

I own a "stratacoustic" they made years ago. A truly hollow body electric. It sounds like an acoustic guitar but when I put it through my multi-effects pedal it sounds like an solid body electric. It plays like an electric guitar because you can bend strings easily. $275 new. Some players didn't like it but I love it.

The thing that made me a Mary Spender Fan is your intriguingly beautiful tone! You have an interesting technique that is both pleasing to my ears and fascinating to watch. I love the way you pick out the melody from with in the chords and the use of your thumb on the E string to set the pace. Deceptively simple yet oh so difficult to emulate! Your's and Lari Basillio's styles are instantly recognizable and that is a Major accomplishment in it's self, Cheers! Add to that you can sing, no, you can SANG, Girl! You are The Total Package Miss Mary! I'm curious to see how you'll integrate your new Acoustasonic into your unique style. The looks of it take some getting use to for us traditionalist, but there's no denying the sound of it!!!!

I have 2. One outright after selling another $1K guitar, and a 2nd on the 48 months SWS no interest thing. $40 a month no interest, pay early if you want. Getting one is easy assuming you have a job/decent credit. I think they are worth it. My only regret is now I want a Strat to go with the Tele. I got a 2 place MONO electric bag, so now I have 1 bag with nearly everything, including a back up guitar. Prior I basically had a 2 trip load in. Now, 1. I guess my point is, they are a bit spendy, but, I think I am DONE buying after these for at least 10 years. Another thing, these roasted necks are super stable. I have a couple Rainsong Carbon Fiber guitars, and they rival those for out fo the bag stability.

Top tip - if you're gigging with one of these, take a phone power bank with you. Even better, put some velcro on a power bank and on your strap, so if your battery dies you can carry on without waiting for it to charge.
Top tip #2 - In related news, with a £6 USB -> 9V adapter, you can actually power a pedalboard from one of those batteries. I do it with my board - keep a couple of £8 power banks underneath the board (one as a spare) for a total of around 7,000mAh at 9V, powering the board for about 10 hours and isolating it from the mains in one go, without spending £70 on a Volto and still risking running out of juice.
(note: the adapters you get from Amazon have the wrong polarity, so expect to do a tiny bit of soldering - just cut the cable in half, then swap the wires over and resolder)

Good afternoon Mary! I recently tested one of these guitars at a music store. The guitar had just arrived and had just been tuned before I arrived. The salesperson knew just a few of the details about these guitars, they also had the Tele version that I had already tested on my previous visit. I first tested it through a Fender acoustic amplifier and tried out a variety of different settings, I then took it to the electric guitar testing area and tried it out on a couple of electric guitar amplifiers. I found it to be a comfortable guitar to play, with a wealth of sonic capabilities. The one I played had the same finish as the one in your video, and it comes in a few other finish options, I personally like the natural finish like the one you demonstrated. I believe that these guitars have a lot of potential and are similar to a guitar they were making 15 or 20 years ago, those guitars disappeared from the local music store and I seen one since. These new acoustisonic Stratocaster and Telecasters seem like the more modern interpretation of the earlier guitars Fender were building. I would like to add one to my collection. I am a little disappointed that it comes with a gig bag and not a hard shell case, but I currently do not have one in my collection and it would expand my sonic capabilities tremendously. Thank you for posting this video! Please have an excellent and awesome day! 🙂

I think you have found the perfect sounding accompaniment instrument to compliment your voice. The guitar sounds acoustic and smooth yet it has a nice clarity and electric vibe that really blends with your vocals. I have found that many times your electric guitar is too harsh or does not blend that well with your voice but in this video that Fender Acoustasonic was the perfect match plus your finger style sounds much better on that guitar. I would like to hear more of you on that Acoustasonic. I have been playing the Telecaster version for awhile and I am digging it.

The older I get (I'm over 60) the more I appreciate a 4 pound guitar to pick up and play. I have a Martin 000-28 and also a Fender Stratocaster, but the Strat doesn't get much playing time these days as I prefer sofa playing with the 000-28. I believe you like the OM28e you have as John Mayer is a big influence on you, and Angella likes an OM to play on. You may want to try the 000-28 for it's shorter scale length because the frets are a little closer together. I find it easier to try difficult to play chords as my fingers don't have to stretch as far. That may be one of the reasons why Eric Clapton likes a the 000-28. Great video review on a new guitar!

My interest in one of these is more about the feel than the sound. I've always found acoustic guitars uncomfortable to play even though I do enjoy the sound. If it feels anything close to my strat and the sound is "good enough", this might be what I'm looking for...

    • @NFMorley

Have you tried any slim-line acoustics or parlor style guitars as not all acoustics are necessarily gigantic dreadnoughts? I feel the same, and although I have a big dreadnought acoustic I love the sound of, Ive been thinking of selling it as I just don't love the feel of playing it due to its heft.
Even something like a Fender Stratacoustic or Coronado (if I have the model name right!) could be worth trying too as they're a nice halfway to going fully electric or acoustic, and they're fairly affordable (albeit without quite all the bells and whistles of the Acoustasonic!)

    • @rickcheyne
      @rickcheyne 4 ปีที่แล้ว

With a good acoustic, you feel the sound through your body as you play it so it's both about the sound and the feel of the sound. I don't think any hollow body electric can feel the same as a well made acoustic in that sense, just as I don't think you'll be able to replicate the feel of a strat by putting a strat neck on a hollow body.
Some new acoustics have bevelled cutaways to make playing the high notes easier and you can always use lighter gauge strings as well. Easier to take to parties and campgrounds too than something that needs to be plugged in - every guitar player should have an acoustic kicking around for when the power goes out ;-).

I've seen this concept way earlier. In the mid to late 80's Kramer had the Ferrington. That was a fantastic instrument as well. If I ever do get my hands on another one... I may "borrow" some of the tech. But this Idea was done before.

Loraxe72 Nothing wrong with the demo and her praise for the instrument was not excessive. But it's proper to let people know how the guitar came into one's hands, and most channels will now put that information upfront in the video.

@@strawman3059 It helps, because people are way more critical, if it was their own money they've spent. You can't objectively say if it was a great demo. Maybe she didn't state out the negative things, because fender gifted the guitar to her.

I still can remember the day we watched the movie "Amadeus" in school. The theacher we had was a big fan of classical music. When the credits were playing some piece of music was playing and after he was annoyed because some were talking while it was playing.
Just always reminds me of this when i watch the credits of your videos to the end just because of the music ;-)

I bought one of these for $1999.00 played it for about 8 months and it began to fall apart!
no abuse just normal playing in fact i own 15 guitars so this was not played all the time.
it started getting rattles under the bridge and no matter what gauge strings i used it simply would not stay in tune!
they could do much better for the price i love fender but i sold this while i could still get out from under the HUGE price
great vid by the way 😄

Best thing I see about the $2K guitar is the nice funky drum beats you loop with it. Acoustic strings typically will not bend, nor otherwise play like electric strings. I think this will become a novelty item and fade away. Fishman did the modeling in my Ovation VXT electric. But besides this, the video is awesome! As usual.

Mary - Thanks for the demo. For a traveling pro who has to make up sounds on the spot to fit into the mix, this might be a "do all" instrument. Especially while experimenting in a writing session. I can see a lot of "What about this ..." scenarios coming out of one of these. Even if the eventual sound recorded is an actual Martin or something. Great for experimenting. Lighter and obviously easier to play for hours standing. I suspect it will end up as one of Mary's gig guitars. Seems to fit her style well.

Line6 Variax Standard that I have seems more versatile to me and it wasn't as expensive as this. And I was surprised, that its build is also of decent quality, not significantly worse than my US Fender Stratocaster. I love Fender, it's great that they are trying to innovate, but this new one is not for me...

I want one. Many demos including this one bring me here. I no longer gig, too bad because I think the electric sounds are special when playing soft or hard. This would cover all the bases for me. It's not about replacing anything, it's about creating new sounds that are extremely musical and can enrichen future music. Hard to justify the cost without off setting musical income. Maybe I'll be around long enough to see an affordable version.... Thank You!

I think it suits the singer/Strummer of a band. In fact it was um, Def Leppard I saw the singer with a telacoustic. It worked really well.
Funnily, even though I play Strats rather than Teles I prefer the Telacoustic...visually at least. I feel the Tele shape represents what sort of instrument this is: much more Strummer than shredder!

I can see you're having fun with it, Mary. I'm sure there are grunge and metal players who would be just fine with the distortion at 7:30 or so. It's WAY more costly, but nonetheless similar, to my Ovation Tangent T357, a "super-shallow" design that I've played for a decade, but that is no longer made. My Tangent is all-black, but similarly light with an onboard preamp that's more elaborate than most acoustic-electrics on the market now (except for those at the very high end), but doesn't have the Acoustasonic's decade-later capabilities. If I could afford an Acoustasonic, I'm sure I'd be happy to play it, but it's far outside of my budget.
