    Great video. I know it’s a year old. But very helpful and detailed. I already have a few other Haiku/BAF fans installed. 2 haikus and one ES6 iirc. Bought 3 haiku L’s for spare bedrooms. Wanted to see if the install was any different prior to opening the boxes. Luckily they are the same basic design as my other fans from them. BAF is a great company and everything is always well thought out.

      @@toddfromflorida we had installed our first Haiku fans back around 2016. We were glad the installation process was very similar. They did make some minor improvements in the design.

    Fantastic install guide! I'm really curious how your light switch and fan switch are independently controlling the Haiku L. It looks like you are running 14/3 wire from the switch to the fan but the red wire is capped off, not giving control over anything on the fan. So please help me understand how your switches are independently controlling both the light and the fan. I'm looking to install this fan. I just have no logical clue how it's being successfully controlled from the switch.

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@thedavenaugler the previous fan was wired so one switch operated the lights and the other operated the fan. For this application this was the way I was advised to wire the new fan. Sorry I can’t provide better advise, I’m not an expert on wiring but maybe someone else can chime in.
      My previous house only had one wire so it wasn’t an issue.

      @@JonJong Right on. Thank you. I'm wanting to install this fan to a combo switch, if I can. I'm going to call Big Ass Fans on Monday and see if I can get some clarification. I'm a little old school and would like one rocker on the combo switch to control the light and the other rocker control the fan. We'll see what what I lean this next week. Thank a ton for the video. And a moving blanket is a sound idea for keeping beds clean!

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thedavenaugler from what I recall these new fans use some sort of electronics so the switch is just left on and instead you mount the remote next to the switch. If you figure out a way that can manually hook up the fans to the switch please give an update. I think the fan needs constant power for the remote and wifi module to work.

    Thumbs up...clear and well presented. Ordering mine soon. Just an aesthetic question...is the BAF decal on the ceiling cover removable? thanks.

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I’m looking at the fan right now and the donkey logo is not removable. It’s not a sticker. It’s a medium gray color. I actually don’t mind it. Since it’s only plastic I’m sure you can sand and paint. The only issue is matching the high gloss finish. If you were to cover it with a glossy white round sticker you probably wouldn’t even notice it.

    I wish they offered a low-volume "beep" setting for the fan. Sometimes my significant other will go to bed first. Then when I go to bed, I may want to adjust the fan. The bummer is that the blue lights are so bright, and the beep is so loud, that both can disturb her sleep. 😅 I'd turn off the LED indicators if there was a quite beep option. If there was a lower-brightness light option (bonus: one that auto adjusts to ambient light levels), then I could turn off the beeps.

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually turn off the LED indicator lights and turn off the fan beep. Log into the Big A$$ Fans app, click on your fan, click Settings, then click More, and you’ll see 2 toggle switches to turn both of those off!

    Have you found that installation may be a bit less cumbersome if you leave the air foils off until the motor's mounted? It seems like it might be a bit less unwieldy up on a ladder that way. As long as you make sure you've got all of the other pieces on, do you think this is a valid installation technique?

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it would be more cumbersome to add the air foils after. One reason is they have to overlap each other. Second reason is to properly torque each screw, it’s much easier before mounting.
      It’s actually rather easy because the mount holds the weight so you’re only lifting the fan up briefly.

    Thank you so much for this. I read instructions, but watching your instructions was way better. I do have a question my remote control stopped working. Do you know how to reset it? The only way I control the fan is through my Amazon Alexa or the app on my phone. Also, Do you recommend Lutron caseta smart switch? I just want to have a switch and not just relay on Alexa. Awesome fan! Thank for this videos my friend.

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my manual it only talks about how to reset the network through the app. I would first try removing the batteries and waiting 10 seconds before reinstalling but you might have to reach out to Big Ass Fans directly for that answer.

    • @JonJong
      @JonJong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as Lutron Caséta switches, I’ve used them before. I prefer voice automation and to mount the factory remote on the wall as a backup. There is supposedly a hard-wired wall control available but I don’t see it on the website. I know several options like Wi-Fi modules and downrod extensions are only available over the phone.

    Great video just installed my Haiku. Only question I have a light / fan “on/off” switch like yours. My light “on/off” switch works, however my fan “on/off” switch does not work anymore - I believe from the red wire tucked away. Does your fan “on/off” switch work or not?

      I ordered this direct from the Big Ass Fans website. If you look under the residential tab on the website you’ll see Haiku. The Series L is the least expensive option and the one I chose.

I thought since the control box said "WIFI MODULE" it was in fact included, but that was just a cover where the wifi module would go. Disappointed for sure considering the price, the module should be in there already, they are a nice fan which is why I now have 3....
