I bought a 565 mini Freek clone with a blue plastic handle. Now I want a real one. But they cost too much for me, especially since I know I'll eventually misplace or loose it, no matter how careful I am. Having to treat an EDC knife like a valuable family heirloom is too stressful. I wont even EDC my Sprint Run Kershaw.
But a $15 clone? (I paid $12 on sale). Pffft. No stress, even if I lose it. And If I do, I'll just grab my BugOut clone and go about my day.
The clone's steel obviously is mot S90V, but it tested at 59 RH. That's good enough for general use or field dressing an animal. A pull through sharpener in the glove box or junk drawer is an ideal companion for these knives.
Great video! It convinced me to buy the clone.
Tip: The quickest way to find a lost clone is to buy a replacement.

There's probably one master knife forger in all of China that designs all the clones, like the few forgers who engrave plates for counterfeit money. The differences are due to different machinery and the skill level of employees who set up and operate them. And materials. The clones often do include improvements over the real ones. The assemblers are likely low skilled laborers who slap the parts together but cant fine tune the final product properly. The Kershaw clones I've bought all needed adjustments & tweaks to make them open & close properly. The springs and liner lock tension are never quite right. The Bugout clone I bought had gritty action. The axis bar metal is rough and likely the wrong metal or heat treat and the spring is too tight. Opening & closing hundreds of times wore the bar smooth and now it works ok.
-I'm absent minded & have lost too many knives over 50 years so good cheap clones are perfect for me. I rarely carry my best, expensive knives for fear of losing them, or being in a position where I might need to abuse the blade, which defeats their purpose.
I bought the yellow Bugout clone with a serrated blade to carry on my boat & kayak. I it ends up on the bottom of a lake, l'll laugh and my day won't be spoiled.

It's so good "It'll be hard to notice how shitty it is" 😂😂😂
The lesson here: Benchmade has been ripping your mouth out for years.

I own several copies from Aliexpress companies some well knowwn in China.
They are straightforward in their claims and people do understand that you can´t buy a 300 dollar knife for 60 bucks.
Therefore the price is an indirect admition of a clone orr a copy.
Apart from that quality steadily rises and many companies actually sell what they advertise. From 440 C to D2 blades as evident by tests done by YT folks like yourselves.
Heat treatment is an issue but is much easier to apply than a cheap metal choice.
Reasons to buy a non original are...
Price ,disposability, ease of purchase and a decent quality for the price,to get the job done.
Sure anybody would love an Elmax or S90 blade but the cost is over the top for tiny blades and overhyped attributes for the easily influenced.
Not to mention few dare to use their knives and keep them locked.
But for such a price i would opt for a used gun anyday.
These knives have their place for collectors ,those who can afford them,or knife junkies and most people just don´t fall into these categories.
Chinese blades have introduced unattainable knives even at lower specs to the general public.
Granted they antagonise legit companies but they should also strive to make their products more affordable (shoutout to Microtech😃).
If not then they will have to deal with the inevitable and this is how competion works at the end of the day.
It is what it is after all.
If there wasn´t any public need for knockoffs or clones and i emphasize on the distinction qualitywise there wouldn't be any market for them.

I have a copy (no markings on it all) mini super freak that doesn’t claim Benchmade at all but it obviously is a direct copy and I love it. I handled the real one and honestly prefer my knockoff

Plus misplacing or a clone doesn't drive you insane looking for it, wondering where it is, and which friend, family member, house guest, dog took it.

You mentioned a used gun instead.. EXACTLY!I found a 3”pinned barrel S&W 32revolver. Looks brand new, flat latch super high quality ,hand fit & finish .less than a bench made knife. Which one do you think will go up in value.
