We had snow, but in the south it's raining and it's all slush or melted by now. The reason we have so many mosquitoes is because of all the bogs and moist wooded areas. They thrive in these conditions.
2:01 yeah the traction on slush is terrible. it's way worse than snow or ice assuming you have good winter tires but luckily it doesn't happen very often in finland because for majority of winter the temperature is way below 0c and slush mostly happens at 0c.
If I remember right, the reason why Finland has so many mosqitoes and other things like that is because Finland has so many still bodies of water such as swamps where the mosqitoes can reproduce.
At the moment in Helsinki: The little snow we got during the last two days has already vanished, as it has rained a bit and now it is about 7 C. This year, winter will come later in Helsinki than last year or, to be honest, it is more like a normal winter. Your darkness probably is not even close to Southern Finland. In Helsinki, we have a period of three weeks with a day shorter than six hours. Do you?
Yeah, it is common in all places with long winters... You often get the smell of dog poop when spring is coming. He is completely right about that one, but what's funny is that I actually believed it was dog poop, or fertilizers you add to all plant spots which caused that smell till just a few years ago. Compare a little bit of fertilizers to the natural smells of decomposition really does not smell nearly as much. :P
I live in a forest and I looooove the smell of spring and those rotten leaves lol. But I also like the smell of cow poo becuse I grew up in milk farm so I just might be sentimental lol.
In 2014, it was snowing on Midsummer. I really laughed, because one of my colleagues was having their summer holiday at that time. 😆 Today 28th of November, the length of daylight was 4 hours, because the sunrise was at 10.20 am and sunset at 2.20 pm. Marras is an old Finnish word for death, still lives in marraskuu = November and marraskesi = stratum corneum, the top layer of skin that consists of dead tissue.
3:40 here in finland people do take vitamin d but not nearly enough because people was sold this lie that body only needs vitamin d for bones and it's just not true. yes for bones low doses is okay but for every other function of vitamin d you need more. way more.
There's horrible lack of snow in Finland right now in middle of December, even just below lapland blades of grass still stick out of the thin snow/ice cover.. Winter is still in the beginning phase so there's still hope that snow will start accumulating. I need about meter of snow to be content but the more the better.. Once I went to work night shift by motorcycle in mid june, during night it snowed and in morning there were 5cm/2" layer of slush on the roads, bit intimidating drive to home 😅
It can snow a little in early summer if there's cold snap from the Arctic. It's never anything major, often during night when temperature is at lowest. Doesn't happen every summer.
Yeah it is exactly how the first image in the video shows, Most often people drink their morning coffee outside, were it 'cause they smoke or wanting fresh air, and often you just kinda forget your jacket or whatever and go "Eh..." and sit down anyways. At least you wake up bit more if nothing else. For what it comes to moving outside otherwise? If it's over -15 Celsius, I go with T-shirt and hoodie and when it drops lower, add a flannel or wool jacket to that. EDIT: About the mosquito thing: I think it has a lot to do with the fact that we have like 95% of our country filled with forests (not accurate percentage, but drives the point) and over 100000 lakes, so the country is basically one big mosquito factory. Gladly I must smell bad for them 'cause I get bitten like handful of times during the whole summer.
In terms of sunlight in Southern Finland, I'd expect the Faroe Islands to have the same conditions near the UK. Those islands are just about on the same latitude as the southernmost point of Finland
About half of the year, it's impossible to generate vitamin D from the sun up here since the sunshine is hitting at such a low angle, ie it goes through too much of the atmosphere. I believe that the far south of Sweden is at about the same latitude as the north of England, and the far south of Sweden is about 500 km south of Stockholm/Helsinki, just for perspective
Yeah, in south Finland, the sun sets tomorrow at 15.32 ( 3.32 pm ). We had snow but now, it's that loskapaskakeli XD It's raining right now as I'm writing this. It's funny how it's said that it'll be so dark in the north, in Lapland, during the winter but heck, at least there's snow. The real kaamos in Finland is down south where there may not be any snow. It's dark, really dark, during this time of the year and without snow, giving some light....
We got some loskapaska here in Lapland and now it turned into frozen loskapaska. Although it's snowing at the moment, temperature has been around -5 to +1
5:56 i think odor is problem in city area when snow melt and every dog sh*t say "SUPRISE!". I hate pick up dog shit but i hate it more in spring when we see how many doesnt pick it but use snow cover it. "Nyt alko loma" is "now start holiday" but Alko is logo finnish alkohol shop. So holiday = somebody is somewhere drinking himself fools.
D vitamin is nearly all homes. Rain and snow now, riding bike is shait now. When ride home this morning almost fell 3 times and it was short trip. Spring is also dangerous, pure ice and steep grooves, speed is friend and satan
1:02 No, this is not what it's like in Finland right now. I'm not sure about the whole of Finland, but at least where I live, we got snow last week but now it's all melted away. This is not normal! This is not okay! Last year this time we had had a lot of snow for over a month, and now there's literally none!!! It's supposed to be christmas in a month and there's literally no snow anywhere. Bad climate change, go away!!!
It was snowing heavily and lots of wind last week, and people were just bicycling like its nothing etc there, sadly this week all the like 20cm of snow melted. Finn's does not care about weather.
The first 50 mosquito bites of the year are the worst. The second 50 are also the worst. After that one's immune system begins to downregulate the response. Why do I have so many? I'm unable to wear mosquito repellent.
Worst weather for outside work. Horizontal wet snow rain. When snow hit you it frozen, stuck you and melt instantly. Ok, there is not bad weather only bad gear.
We had snow, but in the south it's raining and it's all slush or melted by now.
The reason we have so many mosquitoes is because of all the bogs and moist wooded areas. They thrive in these conditions.
And UK is an island with quite some distance from the continent
We just had some powder snow couple of days ago. And now it's that slush

We truly believe someone tricked a stupid Viking to steal all the Mosquitos from Iceland and took them to Finland.
@@SteamboatW At least our Mosquitos don't carry malaria or other dangerous germs...

I am just watching my two snow sculptures melting down 😢
At the moment in Kuopio (around middle of Finland) sun rises at 9 am and sets at 3 am.
Nyt Alko loma! 😂

It is +7 degrees celcius at the moment and the little snow that came went away just as fast. (Southern Finland)
The winter darkness was introduced in Finland by king Gustav Vasa. He found it unjust that just the Swedes should be depressed.
Finland have lot of forest and water so ofcouce mosqitos love those conditions in summer

In Sweden we enrich most of our dairy products with vitamin D

Usually only young kids need supplements, dairy among other products are often enriched with vitamin D too.
This is the case in Sweden too
@moondaughter1004 Yes, I live in Sweden but I figure it should be the same as in Finland.
