- Sometimes you need to spend money, so it's important to try to spend well and get the best value.

I have gifted with dressed up refrigerator pickles, houseplants, and artwork. I decorated some mailboxes with fresh garden greenery and ribbon I already had. I am not up to events this year but am doing a Food Bank drop off this morning for a modest donation for community. When I rented , I always painted and redid the floors. One landlord raised the rent on me!
Flipping landlords! The cheek! I’m not surprised you aren’t feeling like celebrating this year. Hope you are ok x
I won’t buy from Temu or Shein, much to my daughters annoyance. It encourages a throw away society, it’s shipped halfway across the world & people are paid pennies. It’s not right to be able to buy a new bag / winter coat / boots for £3.99.
Yes, it doesn’t seem right!
With zero quality! ❤❤❤
Agree!
My son sent me a documentary about TEMU after I had gotten two shipments. I in good conscience cannot participate in paying people slave wages.
@@joycef8443 I hope others catch on and feel the same soon. Having more stuff cannot be more important than taking care of people & the planet 😢
Quite right Jane ..this week Ive opened those purse strings, getting a few beautiful gifts..for my few, but beautiful friends. As we get older, we realise that friends a few in times of a crisis or if you get chronically ill...I also get really fabulous deals on Christmas duvet covers, and splashed out on a few new bits for the bathrooms..it was looking old and tired. We don't make a habit of it, but mindful spending...always lovely to hear from you ❤❤
The roasting tin you found reminded me of the 1960s my mum always used for the Sunday roast. Ours was made by “judge” and was enamel . I also had a mincer by spong exactly the same colour as yours and was a wedding present for us in 1979.
Interesting that the Spong mincer was still being produced as late as that!
The aluminium cooking tin is a self basting roasting tin, I have an enamel one and they're fantastic to do roasts in :)
Oh, thanks!
Me too!
First video I've seen of yours. Really enjoyed it. ❤ thankyou 💗
Also I love your dressers behind you. I've subscribed. I'm going to watch more of your previous videos. ❤
Thanks! Welcome to my channel.
Good advice there Hun..😘x
Thank you 😊
I have tried temu. Cheap items, clothing material was horrible. They basically give the stuff away. Add friends to get free stuff. Slave labor apparently. Trying to take market from Amazon. Takes weeks to get some orders. I had a return and they gave me credit not money back or they also said just to keep an item. Everything is squished into a plastic bag, even if its breakable. Generating tons and tons of plastic garbage!!! Total environmental hazard. So many youtubers buying bags and bags of stuff just to do unboxing videos.
I have heard a few things about returns being tricky! I’m not going to be buying from them though so it’s not an issue for me. But that’s when the cheap stuff ends up in the bin I guess
I DEFINITELY try to buy quality products. I believe that purchasing good quality items actually saved money in the long run.
I thoroughly enjoyed your 'waffle' as you put it!!
Temu is so cheap that I cannot imagine workers are paid a decent wage, so I won't buy from there.
I buy second hand 80%+
I love it!!
That company is about harvesting and selling data. I read a piece on how it works. It took me ages to get their ads out of my Facebook + TH-cam
Hi Jane, like you I prefer to buy secondhand if possible, but I would rather buy quality items pre-loved or new than tat that’s not going to last. I don’t like the mad consumerism we have now and our throwaway culture at all. I’m also buying as little as possible and trying to think laterally so if I need something I think, do I have something already that I could use instead, or do without it altogether and save my money for something else? I agree with you about the paint too, cheap paint can be like water so it’s far more work in the end.
Me too - I really don't like our throwaway culture at all.
We went over to a tcl reuse centre near us and bought a 4 drawer unit and book case and deliver for under £100. The stock furniture, beds, washing machines, blinds, lampshades and allsorts. They stop the stuff going into landfill. They also deliver out your way. They are a local concil charity and also when people are referred they get free furniture. Well worth a vist. I found mine in my councils local paper you find in the library, thst are free to take. Ive also been buying much needed things in the black friday deals too. I wouldnt shop with temu ive heard bad stuff about them
Sadly we don’t have any reuse centres here. We should! Better write to my council 😊 Good haul for £100
Lovely to be able to treat your Mum, you're frugal in many ways so why not have have the occasional afternoon tea out😊
I buy less as i get older, but when i do buy its usually good quality as i know i will use the item for a few years.
My thoughts exactly.
This is something that used to annoy me when i used to watch Homes Under The Hammer. The house improver would say "ive put in a top quality luxury kitchen with cornish granite worktops and the most expensive brand hi tech oven on the market, and the bathroom is the most up to date designer style and all the fixtures and fittings all over the house are from the most expensive range and im going to charge xxx for the monthiy rent. And i would think, why cant you just fit it out basic and simple so a poor person can afford to live there.
It's 4 cooking in the oven.x
Greed..
I did buy some stuff from Temu and wasn’t happy with most of the products and their return policy.
They accepted my returns and tried NOT to refund my money. They eventually DID refund my money but I had to pay a large sum of money to ship the items back to their return facility.
The items looked very nice quality online and once it arrived it was very very poor quality and fabric was not as it was presented.
They cram everything into plastic bags for shipping and the metal box grater was bent in shipping. Nothing came wrapped to prevent damage during shipping.
I eventually deleted my account after I finally received my refund.
I do try to buy secondhand when possible but it’s getting harder to find the things I need secondhand these days.
We bought cheap clothes and shoes growing up and I actually had foot issues from them so I must buy quality footwear now.
The saying holds true “you get what you pay for.” I’d rather spend a bit more and know it will last a lot longer especially with clothing and linen items.
Treating yourself and others out to a nice meal occasionally helps make it feel like a special occasion even when it isn’t one. It shows that person how much you care about and value them personally.
Yes i received a credit instead of money
I bought some things as well. Horrible horrible horrible horrible quality. Don"t give them a second thought.😊😢🎉😂❤
I read an article about this company. It's true that their business is acquiring and selling data.
Hi Jane. I agree on the temu thing as I make things and there is no way anyone can make any profit unless people are made to work for free, or sleeping on the factory floors as their payment etc. 😥 You got some fun things this week, that port meirrion pot should get a good price as those pieces are quite pricey to buy. I am also decorating this week and plan a few upcycles too. Have a good week. x
I’m inclined to agree. I don’t like to think of people suffering for my shopping habits.
Love Port Merrion!
Quite right, we all need a break from time to time... I went to see a friend this weekend, quite a trip our mutual friend is really poorly and just gone into a hospice so we needed to get together for a giggle then a meal out and a few beers ... It was worth the long ( for me ) drive... and a dip into the jolly pot! Wouldn't touch Temu with a big stick!! It's a phishing scam by any stretch of the imagination, In my opinion, They can't make stuff this cheaply unless slave labour is involved somewhere along the line...and I do not want land fill rubbish imported by the container load across thousand of miles...... These companies make more dosh re selling customers information..... I am being bombarded with this rubbish too and other junk mail Shein etc... I don't know how they got my details.... I don't tick boxes either.
I’m inclined to agree. Lots of people will buy from them though without thinking much about it, especially if they are struggling with money. Sad news as bout your poorly friend 😢
I avoid primark shoes as they are cheaply made but unfortunately i had to take my ankle boots back to matalan as they fell apart I needed the boots but felt guilty for the spend as I do alot of walking & had to take them back but got them exchanged. Temu have been known to have now heard multiple stories from friends of mine about their bank account details getting stolen after using Temu I will avoid that site. Some great charity shop bargains. My favourite was the hobbs shoes x
I agree with you about temu. ❤
I bought lots of pens crayons etc for my granddaughter ,also solar lights which was the exact picture as on Amazon ,my sister gets her knitting supplies from them . I do get what you mean and will buy from marketplace etc x
I won't buy from Temu etc. Their prices are ridiculous. Nothing can be produced that cheaply without someone or something suffering somewhere. I very occasionally buy from Seasalt but I tend to keep my clothes a long time. I have to be honest I never find any clothes in our local charity shops that are right for me. Admittedly I don't go in them very often and usually come out with a book or two when I do. I also use our local library alot. Clothes shopping is a real headache for me as I can't usually find what I want or the colours I want! 🤦🏼♀️
Intresting what your saying about Temu. And someone not being paid right thats is what your tesco and all the othere big box out lets do to farmers...youll be damd if you do or damd if you dont...
Yes I think that happens too but this seems an extreme case. It’s hard to be an ethical shopper sometimes
Even from supermarkets you have to try to do your best.... and buy British... at least it's less food miles... I buy as much as I can locally, but very few high street shops these days, however, if you need pizza , expensive coffee , acrylic nails or a 'Turkish' barber there are far too many ..... I don't know what the local authority is thinking of letting these shops change trade...
I like old furniture too, vintage is the best and those items LAST.
I don’t care about fashion either, if I like it and it’s comfortable, i buy it❤️
Great Advice 😊❤
Thank you!
@@ShoestringJane you're welcome 😊❤
