    IT WORKED! AFTER OVER 5 YEARS TRYING TO BATTLE PHORAID FLIES FROM THE DRAIN. ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER IT WAS SO BAD I COULD BREATHE THEM IN THEY WERE ALL OVER MY FOOD. THE RAID ANY AND ROACH SPRAY WORKED!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! THAT WAS A NO-BRAINER BUT I NEVER THOUGHT TO USE THOSE KINDS OF CHEMICALS AROUND THE DRAIN!!! I ONLY HAD TO SPRAY IT TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW AND THEY'RE GONE FOREVER IT'S NOW BEEN 3 MONTHS!!!! AND IT'S THE MIDDLE OF WINTER WHEN THEY'RE THE WORST THANK YOU SO MUCH I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO SELL MY HOUSE!

      I’ve been dealing with drain flies for 2-3 years now, and I can’t wait to get to the store tomorrow to try this myself! Thanks for verifying that it worked!! (Mine are worse in the summer… my pipes are above ground in an airy/open “crawl space” under my mobile home and it gets severely cold in the winter, so they slow WAY down around this time of year, but come summer, they’re all over the shower and bathroom walls. 😒

      @@carissa4110 Please keep in mind that, if you still have the flies after you treat the drains, then you may have a leaky toilet seal. Drain flies come through the drains. There is a wax seal under the toilet that can fail sometimes. If there is any movement in the toilet, then this may have happened. If this is the case, then you should get the seal replaced, but there is a temporary fix that you can use and it only costs a couple of dollars to do. Get a container of plumber's putty from any of the big box stores like Home Depot. You can find it in the plumbing section. It's kind of like Play-Doh, so you can mold it to any shape you want. Just force it into the space between the toilet and the floor, all the way around the toilet, so that there is no way for the flies to escape. I'm not saying that you have this problem, but given the number of flies involved and the fact that they are seasonal in your case, that always raises a red flag for me and gets me thinking that there could be a compromised toilet seal. If this solves the problem, then you have confirmed that you do have a bad seal under the toilet. Try to get that repaired as soon as you can because there will be water leaking under there every time you flush the toilet and that will cause the floor to rot. You don't want to turn a small repair into a more expensive repair. Hopefully, just treating the drains will do the trick. If not, then you now know what is probably going on. I hope that helps. Be well Carissa.

    I had my septic tank pumped a few years ago. When the lid was taken off the tank, the surface of the water was alive with drain fly larvae. The septic guy said that indicated a healthy septic system. Very occasionally I see a drain fly in my house but it's rare. They seem to be happy enough to stay in the septic tank and eat the sh..., the stuff!

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      The flies will stay in the septic tank unless one of the drain traps is not used and the water level drops too low or if a toilet seal is compromised. Other than that, they will just stay in the tank and the pipes. Mostly in the tank. What a life. Can you imagine living your entire life in a septic tank? Any time you feel like life it getting too hard, just think how it is for them. Lol. Be well my friend.

The source has always been in his garbage can which he is not good about putting on the curb in a timely manner. That changed when the fruit flies drove him crazy. @@rochellecovell305 Trust me. It works. I always tell people that Raid Ant and Roach Killer works on a lot of pests. The only two pests that you should never use it on are ants an roaches. This stuff will also bring down a wasp in seconds. It's great for any pest that you need to kill fast. The thing about ants and roaches is that you want to kill them slowly to give them time to bring the pesticide back to the colony or hiding area. So Raid is not good for that. Kind of funny when you think about it.

      @@rochellecovell305 You are correct. There is a reason why you got drain or fruit flies in the first place and that reason probably still exists. In my case, they fly in from the outside every now and then and I need to retreat. If you enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, then you may get fruit flies periodically. This treatment is quick and easy though. Three seconds per drain and you're done. It always works. Be well my friend.

      @GuysPestSolutions  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Boiling water will kill them, but the problem is that they are breeding in the drain sludge that is on the sides of the pipes. The boiling water may not hit all the areas where the sludge is located and where they are breeding. Also, you may not hit that sludge well enough to kill the eggs. What I am suggesting gets them every time. Don't worry. It's safe for the environment. Bleach is much worse to put down the drains and people use it all the time in the wash. Don't even get me started on drain openers. That stuff is totally caustic, yet people think nothing of pouring Drano down the sinks. Trust me. The planet will still be alive and well when you wake up in the morning. The only thing different will be that the flies are gone. Be well my friend.

    I am very sensitive to aerosols as is an asthmatic that lives here. I live in a humid area of Texas prone to the annoying flies also but don't use bug sprays inside or out. A combo light/bug catcher lightbulb keeps them from coming in the door. When you have icky stuff to throw away, put it in a plastic bag (I use grocery bags) and put it in the freezer while adding to it until you are taking the trash out. I wait until the day the trash truck is coming and put said frozen bag in the rolling container. No more bugs in the trash. For the sink, I have plastic bowls (cheap plastic, not what you would eat from) that I keep upside down over the drains. As needed, I can slide the bowl over to let the water drain from the sink then immediately recover the drain. No more bugs in the drains. I also have screen drain covers to catch debris and empty debris into the ick bag in the freezer.

    I ALWAYS wash my vegetables and fruit, except for bananas, in my sink filled with cold water and a bunch of vinegar. I cut the lettuce apart from the stem, and the rest of the vegetables. Dump it all into the sink with the vinegar water. I just go about other things and when I get back to the kitchen, I swish everything around, then take everything out giving them a good shake and place everything onto a large bath towel to dry. I will also take any berries that I bought into a colander and dunk it into the water as well, swishing them around to make sure I get the vinegar water into all the cavities of the berries. I generally just let the berries dry out on a separate towel for each berry variety. Once they are dry, I store them in any container that is the right size for them.
    I’ve had my lettuce last for up to three weeks, broccoli and cauliflower for a week and a half. Berries never last long enough to have a time duration testimonial. Hahaha
    Living in the tropics, vegetables don’t last very long. It’s a must do to save money.
    Another little tip for anyone who wants is that I have the plastic bags that you use for your veggies at the store and I put all my food waste into them and keep them in a separate place in the fridge until trash day. Then it goes into the trash. Same with meat and bones, dairy and anything else that will rot in the trash can.
    I can say that I don’t have ants or cockroaches in my house. Moths and geckos are a separate issue with me.

    I don’t have fresh fruit laying around but somehow had fruit flies in the bathrooms coming from drains. I had tried the expensive fruit fly goo with citronella in it, that you have to put in the drains over and over. It’s expensive and didn’t seem to work. I saw your video and was surprised I didn’t think of it! So easy! I didn’t have any ant/roach spray handy but I used some phantom II spray that I had, with the long plastic tip was able to get it down inside the drain very easy. And it worked like a charm after one treatment! Thanks for the info. Love your channel lots of good information.

      Thank you so much for those kind words. Very much appreciated. I can see how Phantom II would work, but I have never tried it. I suggested the Raid because pretty much anyone can just go to the store and buy it and it works great. The reason these products work is because they are aerosols and the spray will cover all the gunk in the drain. They are also good residuals, so they will keep working all night long to kill the larvae. The reason the stuff you pour down the drain doesn't work is because it misses the gunk and that is where the flies are breeding. Don't feel bad if you didn't think of it. Nobody else has either. Not even pest controllers. It's funny how sometimes the simplest and most obvious solution to a problem is staring us right in the face and we never see it. That happens to me all the time. Trust me. I didn't think of this right away either. It literally can't fail though and it is so easy to do. I am so happy you got the problem solved. Be well my friend.

    As a DIY'er and a handyman who knows a bit about plumbing, I'm still confused as to how these drain flies get into the home in the 1st place, when drains are typically sealed via the p-trap. I could only assume they enter the home from outside, make their way to the drain and or fruit, and then multiply from there.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Drain flies can come in from the outside, but it is more common for them to enter because of a leaky closet seal under the toilet or a drain that has not been used for some time and the water in the trap evaporated enough to allow the flies to get past it. Fruit flies are something people simply bring in with them when they buy fruits and vegetables. The eggs are already on the produce when you buy it. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      @@GuysPestSolutions When I got home later that day there were gnats in the kitchen and bathroom but not a lot so I resprayed both. This morning there are none. I've never had a lot of gnats here but there has been some sewage problems. One was horrible in my kitchen starting with water seeping under the sink and dishwasher onto the floor. Apparently the apt back to back with mine also had that problem but they dug a 3 ft deep 3 ft wide hole in MY floor which reached into the apartment back to back with me and it remained that way with a big board over it for over a month. Finally they filled it in. Then a few months ago the upstairs apartment tub was overflowing into my tub and my bathroom wall and ceiling were wet. They made a 3 ft square hole in the ceiling over my tub and I had to empty my closet because they had to do something in the pipes and they opened a hole in the closet that led to my bathroom. Once they got it all finished, I started having gnats, not a lot but some until the past couple weeks. I am convinced there maybe sewage in the kitchen and bathroom which is causing this and who knows what the lady upstairs is sending through her kitchen which I presume is somehow connected to my kitchen. Anyhow, if this is how to get rid of them, I'll keep doing it but I'm hopeful this advice you gave me and the fact almost immediately they cease to exist is the answer. That is a horrible situation. There could be a leaky drain pipe that is allowing drain flies into your living space. Sometimes the leak is on the top side of the soil pipe, so it will not leak water, but will allow the flies to escape. They may have also forgot to connect a vent pipe while they were doing the job. If those sorts of things happen, then there is no really good way to treat it. It sounds to me like you need to get out of Dodge. It is really hard if the problem is in the ceiling. Hopefully, treating the drains will get it done. I am so sorry that you are having this problem.

I have a question I had hundreds of termites swarmer flying inside patio and house after a week of fumigation and it has been 2 month now since fumigation, I am still dealing with the swarmers in the house,my pest company said the tenting will cause the termites to do what is called death swarm,it usually last no longer than 90 days,it that true? Thank you!

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What you are telling me falls into the category of, "Just when I think I've heard it all." That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard in my life. The gas that they use, or are supposed to use, will kill everything in the building. If it is alive and it is in the building, then it is unlikely to survive the gas. So, there is absolutely no such thing as a death swarm. It is 100% total BS. It sounds to me like the fumigation was done incorrectly. If the swarmers survived, then there's a very good chance that the other termites survived as well. The company should repeat the fumigation at no cost. The reason the pest controller told you to wait 90 days is because the swarming season will be over and that activity will go away on its own. This would be the case even if the fumigation was not done. I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, but you are getting hoodwinked. You need to read the contract very carefully to see what your options are. If the pest control company refuses to behave, then you may need to seek the advice of an attorney.
      You should also know that the gas they use to fumigate has absolutely no residual action whatsoever, so you can get reinfested the moment the tent comes down. If you have drywood termites, then your neighbors have them as well. Since drywood termites swarm every year, it is almost a certainty that you will be reinfested within a year after the fumigation is done. The only way to prevent this is to do a preventive treatment on your house every 60 to 90 days. Most pest controllers will not do this, so it is something that you generally need to do yourself. I have a video on how to do that and I will place a link below. You should begin the preventive treatment immediately, so that you do not get additional termites paying you a visit.
      I am so sorry that you're having this problem. Be well my friend.

Companies should never need to routinely treat for termites. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    having a gnat problem right now and it seems like more and more are showing up in my kitchen. had the pest control put nidor in all my drains but it seem like thats not doing the trick. hopefully this does the trick. Will the Ant and Roach Defend Work?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gnats are not the same thing as drain flies or fruit flies. Gnats are more of an outside pest. If the pest controller treated the drains, then these are most likely drain flies. The reason his treatment didn't work is explained in the video. Nothing you pour down the drain is going to work. You must use an aerosol spray that has a fast knock down and a residual. That is why I use Raid Ant and Roach Killer. Any ant and roach killer brand will most likely do the trick too. The aerosol spray will cover all the surfaces in the pipe and that will also cover the gunk in the pipe. This will kill the adults as well as the eggs and larvae. The residual will work overnight to get the job done. Sadly, even pest controllers do not know about this trick. I don't know why they haven't figured it out, but they keep pouring stuff down the drains and it keeps missing the gunk where the flies are breeding. It seems like common sense to me and it works every time. There is no magic to it. If you understand the biology of the flies, it's a no brainer. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      I think I can help you with that. I have two videos that I would like you to watch. The first one will show you how to get rid of the mosquitoes without the use of any pesticides. However, this does not always eliminate all of the mosquitoes, so sometimes you do need to go with a pesticide. So, give the first video a try, and if that doesn't work, then go with the second video, which will show you how to apply a pesticide that should eliminate your problem. Keep in mind though, that mosquitoes can fly fairly long distances, so they can cross over from the neighbor's yard. Most of the time, they stay fairly close to their breeding area, but you may occasionally get one that decides to venture a little further than normal.

    Thank you! what about scuttle flies? after 20 years of putting up with drain flies, you provide the solution I seek. Now will this do anything for scuttle flies, M. Scalaris, whick I just saw my first of yesterday?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Scuttle flies are also known as phorid flies or humpback flies. Like drain flies, they often breed and drains, so the same treatment that works for drain flies will also help with the scuttle flies. The thing about scuttle flies though is that you'll often find them in other areas as well, such as potted plants. They're attracted to moisture, and like all flies, they like to feed off rotting organic matter. So, it is common to see them around drains, potted plants, trash cans, litter boxes, spoiled food, leaky pipes, and that sort of thing. Make sure that you do not have any leaking pipes. Thoroughly wash trash cans and keep litter boxes empty of all feces. It is a good idea to clean the litter box really well and then refill it. Make sure that you have no spoiled food laying around. It's a good idea to keep all food in sealed containers. If you have potted plants, you can try lightly spraying Raid and Roach Killer on the soil only, being careful not to get it directly on the plant. This should kill the larvae because the product has a pretty good residual. If you find this is causing the plant any distress, then stop using it and switch to Raid House and Garden Insect Killer. This product does not have a residual, so you would need to apply it twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening, every day until the problem is resolved. This way you will be killing the adult flies as they emerge, so they won't be able to lay anymore eggs. This species undergoes complete metamorphosis and the larval stage can last 1 to 2 weeks, up to several months. That means, if you are treating with Raid House and Garden Insect Killer, then you may need to do this for several months. If you would like to throw a bit more money at it, you can buy a commercial insect growth regulator and apply that to the soil. IGRs are a bit pricey, so I would try the Raid Ant and Roach Killer first. If the plants tolerate it, then it's a very inexpensive way to go. If you have any areas outside where flies may be breeding, then you need to clean that up as well. A common place for the problem to be festering is in trash cans. If you see flies around the trash cans, then wash the cans really well and spray the inside of the trash can with Raid Ant and Roach Killer. The key to any fly problem is to find where they are breeding and then eliminate it.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      Springtails can be somewhat difficult. If they are just outside, then I recommend treating the ground around the perimeter of the house with Bifen LP. For best results you should treat your entire yard with a broadcast spreader. However, you can probably get away with just treating about a 15 foot band around the house and around any ornamental plants with a hand spreader. Just follow label directions. Next, you need to water it in with a hose end sprayer and Bifen XTS. You should treat your entire yard with the Bifen XTS. I have a video on how to do that. If you treat the yard every 60 days with the Bifen XTS, then that should prevent them going forward. If you don't keep up with the treatment, then you will need to retreat with the Bifen LP.
      I hope that helps. Be well Kathleen.

    We are on a septic system. We have continued to struggle with drain flies, thus me finding (and liking) your video. I plan to follow your Raid advice in all my drains. We also plan to drain water to fill the traps in those we don't use often that may be dry. Question; do you think I'll mess up the septic system process if I spray seven drains? I'd imagine I'll start on the drain where we see them most often and then space out the rest over time. Do you think that will work?

    I'm not sure if the video mentions how drain flies get into you drains to begin with. I had a sudden swarm of drain flies coming out of my bathroom sink. I went into my crawlspace, sure enough, right under the bathroom was a leaky sewer pipe that created a small swamp containing thousands of swimming larvae. I replaced the old leaky pipe and no more drain flies. For me, they were actually an early indicator I had a much larger problem brewing. And that I need to keep up on my routine inspections...

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That will do it. Most of the time what happens is they either fly in from the outside, you have a drain that is not used much and the water evaporated from the trap enough to allow the flies to get past it, or your toilet seal is broken. With fruit flies, you generally just bring them in the house with you. Of course, leaky drain pipes can do it too. I'm glad you found the problem. Be well my friend.

    My father drank beer a LOT so there were always beer cans with drain flies around them. I don't know if I got lucky or what but I kept pouring boiling water down the drain and capping it. They went away. They came back months later either because it was just a temporary fix or because he lived in a lake house and always had the house wide open but I just did it again. This time they're in my house and under the lip in my toilet. Scrubbing it hasn't helped. Being newly disabled makes things a bit more difficult. I'll get it done

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It sounds like, even though your father had a lot of flies around, they must have been happy flies if they were drinking all that beer. Lol. In your case, the problem you're having is most likely that the closet seal that connects the toilet to the soil pipe has been compromised. This is allowing the drain flies to travel freely from the drain pipe into your environment. The solution for that is to have the seal replaced. If you cannot afford a plumber, and you are too disabled to do this yourself, then you can try sealing around the toilet with plumbers' putty. I like plumbers' putty because you can mold it kind of like Play-Doh and push it right into the voids between the toilet and the floor. After that, the excess is easily removed with your finger. This material takes a long time to harden, and it is very easily removed, in case the toilet needs to be removed. It is non-staining, and will not damage the floor in anyway. There's also another way to treat this, but I cannot talk about it in the comment section. To obtain this treatment method you would need to email me at guyspestsolutions@gmail.com. Keep in mind that the treatment I will be giving you if you email me is only a temporary fix, and the flies will return. Also, it is not always 100% effective. Naturally, the right way to do a district place that closet seal.

      Phorid flies get treated much the same way as fruit flies. You need to do all the same things that you would for fruit flies, but you need to add some stuff as well. Phorid flies like litter boxes, so if you have a cat, make sure that you clean out the litter box often. Another favorite place for them to hang out is a round house plants. They like water, so be sure that you do not overwater your plants. These guys need decaying matter to survive, so make sure that you don't leave any spoiled food laying around. Good sanitation is very important. If you keep everything squeaky clean, and you treat the drains, then this should pretty much fix the problem.

      Perfectly safe for RV drains. These guys can get into the holding tanks. Particularly the black water tank. It can be hard to reach them in there. So, here's what you do to kill them in the black water tank. Find out how large your holding tank is. Then get some Ortho Home Defense concentrate from Lowes or Home Depot. Pour 1.5 ounces down the toilet for every gallon that the tank holds. So, if it holds 30 gallons, you will need 45 ounces of pesticide. Next, run the water into the toilet until the tank is full and the water is coming up the toilet. Let that sit overnight and then drain the tank in the morning. If you get them in the grey water tank, then you can do the same thing with that. If there is a bug in the tank, it is now dead. The flies sometimes enter the tank from the outside when you are draining the tanks, so you may need to do this from time to time.

      It works everywhere. A drain is a drain. Just spay the drains when you go home for the day and in the morning you should be fly free. The Raid is an aerosol, so it will find all the nooks and crannies in the drain. It sticks to everything, so it will kill the flies and the larvae. If you still have the problem, then you didn't spray long enough. Just do it again for a couple of additional seconds, so that the spray gets into everything in the drain.

    I have drain flies coming from under the stove and dish washer! Should I still use this method or do I need some more help?

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is somewhat unusual to have drain flies coming from under the dishwasher and the stove, but it can happen. The thing to remember about drain flies is that they need a place to breed. So, if they are coming from under the dishwasher, then there must be some sort of material under there that they are using for breeding purposes. Unfortunately, that will necessitate that you need to remove the dishwasher and investigate to see where they are breeding. It is possible that the discharge hose from the dishwasher may be leaking, and that sort of thing. This would be a situation that you would need to correct anyway, so it would be wise to pull that dishwasher and have a look to see what's going on. It would be the same for the stove. You need to pull that stove away from the wall and investigate further to see where the flies are breeding. Again, they need some sort of food, sludge, or build up in order to breed. So, you want to make sure that the stove is clean, and you want to make sure that you check under the burners and that sort of thing, to make sure that everything is nice and clean. There may be grease spills or food that dropped down the side of the stove or something that or got kicked under the stove, so you do need to move the stove and see what's going on. After you locate the breeding area, then the best way to treat it is to clean it.
      I am so sorry that I do not have a 3 second fix for this particular problem, but not all pest problems are so easy to take care of. I wish you well with it. Be well my friend.

      I cannot be positive without seeing a specimen, but this sounds a lot like cluster flies. They enter the exterior walls of your home when the weather starts getting colder because they are seeking heat. One of the places in your home where they will find both heat and light is around the windows. So it is common to see hundreds or even thousands of them around your windows. To treat the ones inside, simply spray them with Raid Flying Insect Killer. To prevent them from coming back, you need to treat the exterior of your home before it gets cold out. So, start treating in early fall while the temperature is still fairly warm. Treat every 60 days until the weather is totally freezing. If you live in a warm climate, where you don't get a hard freeze all winter, then you should treat every 60 days during the winter months as well. This will also prevent a lot of other pests from entering your home too. I live in Florida and I do it every 60 days all year long. I have a video on how to do it and I will give you the link to it. You don't need to treat your lawn for cluster flies, but it's a great idea to prevent a lot of other pests. The video does touch on this.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First of all, make sure that they are flies and not something more serious, like termite swarmers. If they are flies, then they are most likely attracted to the light. It could be light coming from inside the house, or light that is reflected off the glass. If this is a recent problem, then there is probably a breeding area close by. This could be a dead animal, trash can, animal feces, and so forth. That may not be on your property. You should inspect your property to see if there is anything like that going on. If not, then it could be your neighbors. Eliminating the source is always the best way to go. If that is not possible, you could install a bug zapper. You need the right one though. I don't want to get too technical, but the specific wavelength of UV light that is most effective at attracting flies is 365 nanometers. Bug zappers that use other wavelengths of UV light, such as 395 nanometers, may not be as effective at attracting flies. This is because the 365-nanometer wavelength is more similar to the light emitted by the sun, which is what flies are naturally attracted to. In addition to the wavelength of UV light, the intensity of the light also plays a role in how effective a bug zapper is at attracting flies. Bug zappers with a higher intensity of UV light will be more effective at attracting flies than those with a lower intensity. So, if you're looking for a bug zapper that will be effective at attracting flies, you'll want to choose one that uses a 365-nanometer wavelength of UV light and has a high intensity. You can also apply a pesticide to the glass, but that will make the glass look pretty bad, so I would go with the bug zapper. I will give you a link to one that may work well for you. They claim it also works for mosquitoes, but that's a lie. Mosquitoes are not attracted to light.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      @@Norma-ie8ds I get it. It's hard to understand why flies do some of the things they do. I don't think you mentioned where you live, but if you have cows nearby, these could also be face flies. I didn't think of that until just now. They look a lot like houseflies, but they like to make nests in the sides of buildings. They enter through cracks and crevices in the side of a building and build nests inside the walls. It is unusual to get them, but I have seen it before in areas where there was dairy faming or meat production going on. This is unlikely to be the case, but I thought I would mention it. If it's the trash cans, then you will see maggots in the can. It can be a bit awkward to be looking in your neighbor's trash can, but that may be the problem. Flies do not always stay close to where they hatched. A study conducted by the University of Kentucky found that house flies can travel an average of 1-2 miles after hatching. However, some flies have been known to travel as far as 20 miles. The study also found that flies are more likely to travel longer distances in warm weather and when there is a lot of food available. They are also attracted to light. In your case, they may like the reflection from the glass door. Apparently, they may like it even more than the bug zapper light. Sometimes, things like this can be a tough nut to crack. It is certainly weird behavior, but I have seen all sorts of strange things in my time. All you can do is just try different things to see if you can find something that works. Try moving the bug zapper away from the door in an attempt to lure them to another location. You may need to experiment with this a bit. Get a small plastic camping table or something, so you can move the zapper to different locations easily and try different locations in the yard. You can also buy an exterior fan and blow air on the door from the outside. This way, the flies can't land and may move on. If all else fails, you can cover the door with a tarp for a while to see if that stops them from coming. You can also just use a pesticide to treat the door and the area surrounding the door. It will make the door look dirty, but it may get rid of the flies. I have to admit that you do have an interesting situation. All you can do is to try different things to see if you can find something that works. I am so sorry that this is so hard to solve. It usually is not this hard.

      It's hard to say what is causing it, but you know that they must be breeding somewhere. Just for the heck of it, make sure that you caulk any cracks and crevices that are around the door. All you can do is keep trying different things until you find something that works. Be well Norma.

      No. Do not spray the Raid on the cat litter. There is nothing in the cat litter that the flies want, so be sure to remove the cat waste constantly. Also, look for another breeding area. They could be coming from somewhere else and just be attracted to the cat waste. Treat potted plants, drains, trash cans, and so forth. Cats have been known to kill mice and other small mammals. Make sure that there isn't a dead body laying around behind the couch or someplace like that. You may need to move the furniture and look under and behind it. If the flies are mostly by the cat litter box, then that would be a good place to start looking for bodies. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

There are other ways to do it, but I find that just spraying them is the quickest and easiest thing to do. If you fog them, then the problem is solved in an hour. Mostly, you are only fogging the kitchen and bathrooms. If any of them get back in the drains, then you may need to treat them again. So, until all the flies are gone, you may want to cover the drains immediately after you treat them. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      @@GuysPestSolutions Interesting, thank you. I keep my drains taped with duct-tape and go around with a zapper fly-swatter and hope to get them all but they seem to always hide and come out later at night and I cant figure out where they're coming from. They certainly seem to NOT prefer the bathrooms or anywhere near moisture for some reason, they are mostly in the living room and office where there isn't a drain or water source anywhere nearby - yet I kill at least 50 per day in each of those rooms. Maybe 1 or 2 in the bathrooms and kitchen. It really is that offset. Strange, but I guess I'll try fogging.

      Are you sure that these are drain flies? You would expect to see drain flies in the bathrooms and kitchen. If they are drain flies and not breeding in the drains, do you have plants in the home? Watch them for a while and see if you can locate where they are coming from or going to. They must be breeding somewhere, so the key is to locate that breeding area and treat it. Normally, that would be the drains, but not always. You don't need to tape the drains. Just put a wet washcloth over them to keep the flies out. If they are breeding in the drains, then you will most likely see flies come out when you remove the washcloth. If you do, then treat the drain. If not, then the breeding area is in a more uncommon location. If you can find the breeding area, then the flies will be toast. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    I have some wasp and hornet spray and may try that first. Poison is poison. Brilliant suggestions for the drain problem but I suspect that our fly problem is the fresh fruit. My daughter works at a food bank and after she started bringing home fruit, the fly problem exploded. Probably from a warehouse full of friut fles and eggs on the fruit and even boxes that they are stored in. I am going to get aggressive about this. Thank you.

      The wasp and hornet spray may be formulated differently. That product is designed just for a fast kill and may offer little or no residual action. You can certainly give it a try, but if it doesn't work, then go with the ant and roach killer. Your daughter is a wonderful person for working at a food bank. You must be very proud of her. Your conclusion about how you are getting the flies is quite logical and that could certainly be the cause. Please watch my video on eating maggots. It talks about fruit flies and washing fruit when you get it home. Your daughter may want to watch that one as well. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    I have some ortho will that work, the smell of rain is so strong but will certainly get some. I just have the other stuff here

      It depends on the Ortho product that you have. Not all pesticides are created equal. The one in the video will stick to the sides of the pipe. This is important because the flies breed in the gunk that is on the sides of the pipes. If the pesticide does not contact the gunk and cling to it, then it will not work. So, you need the stuff for roaches and not flying insects. It must also have a residual, so that it will keep working overnight. If the Ortho meets this criterion, then it should work. Otherwise, I would stick to what I know is going to do the job. I hate the Raid smell too, but it is really effective. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    This is a GREAT but I still can’t figure out what is flying. When you zoom a picture they look just like a baby fly. We have about 20 in the kitchen every day. I just started the drain spray you recommended and purchased raid fly sticks. We caught 5 in the first 2 minutes.

      Just based on your description, there is a good chance that these are either drain flies or fruit flies. If you follow the instructions in this video, that should take care of the problem. However, it is possible that you are looking at a different species. So, if this treatment does not work for you, then let me know and I will try to help you figure out what is going on. Inside the house there is only a couple of places flies can breed. If you treat all the drains and the trash cans, then the only other place they can be coming from is from the outside. Usually though you do not get that many flies coming in from the outside. So, there is a very good chance that if you treat the drains and the trash cans, that will fix the problem. If you are seeing a lot of lies in the bathroom, then it is also possible that the closet seal under the toilet may be compromised and they are literally coming out from the drain under the toilet. If that is the case, then you need to replace that seal.
      I hope that helps. Be well Christy.

    8:43 just wanted to write down: stop using bleach! That’s such a big step ecologically that you can use a bit of pesticides once in a while, and still be ecologically on the good side. And then you brought it up.
    However, I want to know how people get food in their drain? I’m really puzzled what kind of food that must be. How it came there.
    I’m from the Netherlands, and the waste bin is under the ground behind the apartment building. There is no direct connection with the outside. Even in the hottest weather never saw an insect around it. This video made me realise that this is quite remarkable. There are no bears in my country, but they also couldn’t get inside.

      Here in America we have garbage disposals in the sink that grind up food and wash it down the drain. Also, the flies are not just attracted to food. Pipes naturally can build up sludge on the sides of the pipe. Even the bathroom sinks. The flies will eat and breed in this sludge. It's really a big problem here. I hope that helps. Be well Jannette.
