    Thank you for posting this video. I've done research into becoming a medical lab tech here in Maine and it's recommended that I get either a Bachelors degree in science or a masters degree in science Especially if I want to be able to move up in the lab my end goal is to become an RN but I've decided to start out with phlebotomy because that's the easiest way to get my foot in the door. I spent the entire month of September in the ICU because my appendix decided it was going to burst.

      Depends on the area you work in. I work in Microbiology and deal with covid literally everyday but i also deal with much worse than covid everyday as well. If you work in a place like chemistry you wouldn't be exposed to covid, but you would deal with blood/serum of patients that could have HIV or things like that. Also, lab techs are the most exposed people in the hospital to nasty bugs ALL THE TIME, yet we are paid chump change and they completely ignored us for hazard pay. If i had to do it over, I'd choose another profession

    Thank you for making this video! It's a year old so I don't know if you'll ever respond as people on TH-cam don't really seem to. I am curious what level of education you have that provided adequate employment? I don't mean to pry, my reason for inquiring is due to my search on Indeed for jobs in medical laboratory technician and I started feeling disgruntled by the majority seemingly requiring a bachelor's degree in biology or related nature, and certification in technologist. I was frustrated to find only one job posting stating associates and up, and one post stating will accept new grads, but I was concerned at the lack of job postings for technicians specifically associate level. I thought there was more out there and employer's would have use for such as it doesn't require the higher salary. When I hear you speak of a one year program I'm very saddened as that is not an option here. I think in the past, the Red Cross offered that and my reason for knowing is a step cousin of mine completed it and I think it was through them and it was more efficient, cost effective/quality but rigorous. However if she could do it then I definitely could, I was top in my class in math and science at an elite private school and to be #1 as a female makes me very proud to this day. This is an alternative I'm exploring aside from LPN, due to the physical demands of nursing. There really does need to be more shorter, condensed programs that are employable and affordable for the masses now more than ever and I'm troubled to continuously see higher degree's being required as I'm middle age. That is just not realistic yet I'm bright & passionate when it comes to biology and took genetics courses at Cal tech, my dad's alma mater, not sure what you call it in Canada. Maybe things are a bit different where you live but if you could let me know if an associate is adequate in your dealings in the field to employ people but apparently if you have a one year certification, maybe Canada is more reasonable in requirements. I appreciate your straight video giving the facts & sharing helpful details! Thank you! ❤️👩🏼‍🔬❤️

      Technicians have an associate degree only. They do not possess a bachelor’s. When you have a bachelor’s you are now called an MLS or Medical technologist. As far as your job search goes I think you had these terms mixed up, they are confusing. There are tons of jobs for medical laboratory technicians. Reading about your background makes me wonder why you are not applying for medical laboratory science. Look into it. You’re never too old! Apply for FAFSA and you’ll most likely have your tuition paid by the government. I got my four year degree covered by government aid. I am a medical laboratory scientist (MLS). It’s a rewarding field to work in.

    Hello. Here in California Bay Area we make $45 to $52 per hour starting as an MLT. Scientists (CLS) will make more.

      @@adrianamagana7270 It is around a year depending on if you have an associates degree. I am not in the program yet bc theres a two year waiting list but im one year in on that. Currently im a lab technician working in a hospital but a couple of my coworkers have done the program there.

      @@nae80West wow I better start trying to get in now lol. I have a bachelors in science I wonder how that will play into my time there. If you don’t mind me asking, is the job you do now the same as you would do when you get your certificate? Like are you aiming for the degree for more job security and higher pay? I’ve tried to get my foot in working in a hospital, I’ve already worked in a biotech company but usually hospitals want some kind of license. Thanks again.

    Hematology and Microbiology also need alot of microscope use. I specialised in Clinical Chemistry just to avoid microscopes 😆

    I never taken chemistry, when i was in highschool i somehow avoid hard classes and still got an average ranking in hs ( i rank at the middle ), was it hard for those that absolutely had zero knowledge on organic chem and chemistry, im also bad at math, again the highest math i took was college algebra, no arithmetic or calculus all algebra.

    • @sultaniaburns8642
      @sultaniaburns8642 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes depending on your degree. If you have a B.S. in a science such as Microbiology you can challenge the BOR. Also depending on what state you're in you will need an additional license from the state health department before you can work in that state. And that's for anything clinical from a Generalist to a Specialist.
