    I have a 2016 Chevy Colorado for that is paid for a 16 foot trailer that doubles as a atv hauler. A 42 inch gravely zero turn stihl weed eater, edger, hdger, and leaf blower. That is my setup. And for me it works great

    People, if you are on the fence on what to do, I’ll give you a reason to take Jonathan’s advice. I’ve watch 100s of videos about lawncare, started my business solo this April and YTD have 110K in revenue in the Nashville market. Jonathan’s advice by far has been the most influential. Mowing videos, ditl videos are fun, but practical behind the scenes, real talk about numbers and how to dominate your market... this is where it is. Looking to double our business in 2020 and I guarantee I will watch all the videos Florida Turf Pros puts out.
    Thanks Jonathan

    When I started out we did everything. Made it to where we were constantly buying tools/equipment. Constant trips to Home Depot etc. Now, we're basically %100 mow & go. Mowing is the most dependable income ever I think. We'll trim bushes or whatever if requested though. For me, if you have enough lawns, you really don't even have to do much else, but mow & go.

    Really enjoy watching your videos and learning ins and outs and reading others success stories I started in 2019 with little to no money and no credit to finance new equipment I bought a toro 21 inch push and a troybilt weed eater had no lawns until the middle of summer went from 1 to 3 in the matter of a week ended the year with a used zeroturn that worked about 50 percent of the time so going to spend some of my tax money on more reliable equipment and marketing to hopefully end 2020 with alot more stability and just keeping that ball rolling twords the ultimate goal!

    Ive been in the business for 21 years.
    1st year I grossed $12,000.00 and did what I had to do to get by and everyone keep asking what the heck I was doing. Thinking I was crazy.
    Year 20 we averaged 24 employees making $50,000.00 to $75,000.00 each employee
    I’m still learning but no asks what the heck I was thinking starting a lawn care

    I agree with this guy I've been doing it for 20 years now and when I first started I offered about five to six different services I got burned out within the first four to five years and I realized I needed to scale back so now I just offer two to three services and that's it grass cutting trim hedges and I fertilize and that's it and I did making money hand over foot

    I’m going to start a lawn care business next year and since there are so many people out there nowadays that think it’s ok to steel people stuff, I personally am going to get a low end enclosed trailer to start out with. The other reason why I prefer a low end enclosed trailer over a open trailer is I personally destroyed keep my equipment dry when it rains.

    Man, you said a mouth full you mentioned July and August. That's when you can tell the men from the boys. There's about a 6 week period in those months that will let you know you need better equipment and you are physically working harder than the machines.

    Great info! I want to thank you for being a big influence on my decisions. I started my business 2019 and ended the season with 50 customers on schedule and 3 commercial out of that. I’ve followed you and a few other guys that share their knowledge. I want to say if it wasn’t for you guys sharing videos, my personal success would have been a struggle. 🙏
    Thank you!
    This up and coming season I can hit the ground running and shoot for the stars.
    You are making a difference!!

    Jonathan - great video as always. I’m wrapping up year 4 and I’ve been using a 30” Toro Timemaster for the past 2 years which was a huge step up from a 22” husqvarna. With the season ending I’m debating spending ~$5000 cash on a solid 36” Stander with under 100 hours. Plenty to chew on in the video - I appreciate it.

    • @kylescottjohnston
      @kylescottjohnston 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Props to you pushing so far. Keep the time master don't trade it for a 36 like I did. You already have the 30 that will fit in gates keep it and think about a bigger deck. The commercial walk behind can save you some money used. Go bigger than 36 if you can use it in your market. Good luck

    • @BILLYBOB923
      @BILLYBOB923 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kylescottjohnston Appreciate the input. I'm in a weird situation down here outside of Dallas where almost every property is under 8k-9k so no need for a large deck. Honestly a 36" wouldn't fit through maybe 30% of the gates. Just ready for something beefier - not sure a 36" is the answer. Love more input. Have a great Thanksgiving.

    Jonathan, I’ve been considering starting my own lawn care service here in Ohio in the spring. As a matter of fact, I’m still seeing guys running around in late November which motivates me further to go for it. I’ve been engrossed in your videos and appreciate your advice. Keep the content coming and enjoy the holiday season!

    Good advice! I also do networking with a turf control service it worked out really well we gain about 25 new lawn clients per year just from the referrals we get from them and also the handful of our clients who want the turf control included in my monthly service and only want to deal with one buisness I will have the turf control compony do it and bill me directly and they are always friendly with the prices because of the referrals that I give them throughout the year.

      Not much can do for small amounts, but stop service permanently. I have a lawyer that sends a letter, stating pending legal action. From there I wait to see if they pay. If not, I have to pay some court filing fees totaling around $150. Then, my lawyer sues them & pockets %25 of any money collected.

      Gerald Greenlee “Offering too many services” would cover under bidding. Most the time underbidding comes from offering too many services

    Jonathan what do you recommend for areas that are plastered with 'no solicitation' in the front of the neighborhood? I've got clients in those neighborhoods and they are my target but as far as going door to door with some great postcards I'm honestly a little apprehensive of getting in trouble with the law. I've also spent a whole lot on FB and Google Ads but haven't been able to get quite enough return, plus door to door is free aside from my time.. just having an issue solving the problem of 'no solicitation.' I know there's EDDM, but always seems so expensive.

    • @FloridaTurfPros
      @FloridaTurfPros  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grant Dohrmann Closed/Private Facebook groups. Nearly every neighborhood has a private Facebook page. If you have ANY clients at all in the neighborhood already, you need to get them to give you a shoutout on the closed Facebook page. You can offer them a free service or something.. I promise it’s worth it. Also “no solicitation” really just means no knocking on doors. You can put 5 arounds out without knocking on their doors. It works.. good luck.

    Great video man! One question: I know you’re a licensed business but may I ask what type of license you got? In my state of CA I need a contractors license. More specifically a C27 Landscaping license. Is this the one you obtained? If so, how? Here you’d need at least 4 years of labor experience to apply but I know rules vary depending on the state. I apologize for the loaded question, but I’d appreciate it if you could give me a reply! Thanks

    • @FloridaTurfPros
      @FloridaTurfPros  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Florida does not require special licensing for lawn mowing companies... Probably why we have so many here.

  • @TheCubs2240

    Another great video man!!! Question? How do you feel about direct mail? Thank you for all you do, Happy Turkey Day and God bless you.

    • @FloridaTurfPros
      @FloridaTurfPros  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cenla Turf I don’t like direct mail myself. It can become expensive, and it’s not as successful as other means... Repetition is key. So unless you have a very large budget to do multiple mail outs you would be better off with 5 arounds in the neighborhood you’re already working in.
