Great brakdown,... as a practical silat, relating the part that Rama twist the arm of the assassin that you explain, I think this is a fighting condition which using any fast reaction. While Rama twisted the arm of the assasin on that part, he was using his momentum of gravity while trwisted it which in the actual fighting the twist might hard enough to be reversed. Well, as you mentioned, it's part of entertainment which in actual fighting condition we could use another simple move where the impact could be damaged enough. :) Anyway, I like your tutor.
After rama catched his leg the assasin used his leg locked rama arm and then change his leg direction as u mentioned it to maneuver his position to trap the leg.. That leg locked in my term of silat is crocodlie styled of lock... That mean u can lock your opponents with your leg in any position that make u change your position in terms of u can attack your opponent after that or make a defending position... Thanks so much u guys.. Love all your work..
Love this scene so much, yeah, it gets a bit 'movie' in the last bit with the karambits, but hey, still good. I love how clearly you can see the mastery of the martial arts in this choreography. That has always been the biggest draw to Gareth Evans' movies; he hires actual practitioners of the martial art, and trains them in acting (which honestly, they're not half bad at.) You guys took it to the next level when you included the choke slam XD
LOL thanks, we worked hard on figuring out how to do that safely. Mind you, we dont have months to rehearse this stuff over and over again like the actors do lol. And yes, I agree, hiring master martial artists and then teaching them to act is better than the other way around. I look forward to Iko's big Hollywood break in Mile 22. Looks like a great action thriller. I usually enjoy Peter Berg's films. If it is anything like The Kingdom, I'm in.
My favorite things about this fight scene were the elbow strikes, as well as the elbow blocks (had no idea you can actually block elbow strikes using your own elblows). What I didn't like about this fight scene were the forearm strikes that can be seen from a mile away (in my opinion, this sort of striking just makes it easier for another person to counter and has very little power/momentum to be that effective even in a streetfighting scenario).
I agree that they are easy to see, but I disagree with you on the power aspect. These types of strikes are best used as finishing strikes with a good setup beforehand. And you can't really block an elbow with an elbow. That ends up in chipped elbows, speaking from experience lol. But you can use your elbow to strike the incoming elbow near the tricep or forearm to stop it.
actually silat can open whatever possiblity of movement. Like you said arm lock can do what ever you want. That is silat lesson 101 for you . Silat is not you must hit here and there. It has alot of possiblitys where you can hit. It's your choice. The reason is because you don't want your enemies to read your moves
4:45 Its not a kick a actually because its not effective for that close distance. Its a knee strike, but Rama catches the leg and pull it to make the assasin loose his balance, but the assasin realize rama's move so he pulled back his leg to keep his balance, but Rama didn't let his leg go and move it to his other side. So to break the situations the assasin chokeslam to free his leg. That's how the silat work, you just think smart and move fast.
Joey awesome video protrayed and well matched to the actual movie fight scene and explained very well. Must have taken a good couple of hours to have created this.
Yes, I've been looking forward to this. Mmm the part of the fight I enjoy the most at this point is when the Assassin got Rama in that chicken wing arm lock and Rama tries to hit him with his right elbow and the Assassin blocks it with his arm, always enjoy that part. Though my absolute favorite parts are still coming. Also you seen Mission Impossible: Fallout ? They have a pretty good fight in a restaurant bathroom, hope you do a break down of that fight one day !!!
I haven't seen it but I am a fan of the series. I'm still one movie behind, as I haven't seen Rogue Nation yet. I do know of the fight scene, as it has been in the commercials. Looks like a good one.
REAL silat is taught in Indonesia. They usually guard it by passing it down only to family, like a lot of other martial arts. As for training some good silat, try to go to a Maul Mornie seminar sometime. He travels all over the world to teach, so maybe you can find one to go to. He is a fun teacher to learn from and he definitely has the knowledge

They probably spent weeks if not months on this fight scene lol. It is very complicated and detailed. I disagree that American actors wouldn't work this hard.
Joey B great work as always. You guys should do the fight scene from Wheels on Meals with Jackie Chan and Benny The Jet Urquidez when Benny throws a fast spinning hook kick and extinguishs a bunch of candles.
Excellent video. I was wondering if you can show the techniques iko uwais uses in the raid films where he punches the heavy bag on the first 1 and the wall on the second. I used to try this when i was on the punching bag, but his moves are too fast.
u guys damn thats epic exactly idk their movement is comes to fatal blow its so simple to watch at movie but seeing all of this movent perpart with slomo its epic n their movent have meaning
the moves are pretty distinctively silat. Since, they're silat masters themselves. there's always a reason or philosophy and trap behind every moves. Except, this is just the movie and it's choreographed. Different in real life situation. Where a kick to the knee or breaking of elbows will probably end a fight within seconds. :p

U got a sub n my respect for the commitment Joey bro! Keep it up. PS. A college near my hometown actually teaches Silat for free, im not sure what is the style tho.
Thanks for the support! I have actually heard of a college teaching silat, which I think is amazing, I wish more schools in the U.S. would teach martial arts classes. I feel it would be a great learning experience for many students
Oh I see, but yea, I used to train with someone who was involved with a group in a college. I dont remember if it was just a training group, or an actual class. I've heard in the Philippines that it is common to learn Arnis in school for P.E. class
I really want to do that fight scene too, but I'm saving up to get a good cap shield prop...they aren't cheap unfortunately. I dont want to get that Rubie's flimsy piece of crap for $30...not worth it. We need quality stuff in these videos LOL
I think they slowed down & exaggerated that armlock-elbow combo just for the camera's sake. A lot of the moves in this fight scene (and the movie in general) are performed a bit slower than you would in real life, otherwise it'd be too fast on camera and nobody would be able to tell what was going on. Also keep in mind that at this point in the film, Rama has been getting beaten up pretty much all day, so naturally he'd be a little sluggish by the time he reached the kitchen.
u wrong, in Silat, Choreo also fast, if u ever see a championship tournament of Pencak Silat u will know how to fast they Choreo. example u can see the Ganda Category in Tournament: th-cam.com/video/gPGxeI5ho40/w-d-xo.html u can see the new Behind the scene of Mile 22 movie, they make a scene combat hand to hand also fast: th-cam.com/video/rDp6AgPl6MA/w-d-xo.html

I guess you dont watch much Asian action films those guys and donnie yen all do the fighting with no stunt doubles American actors usually always use stunt doubles for everything even walking lol. Except for a few like Jackie chan tom cruise sly Stallone most Hollywood action are CGI and gun fights with actors acting tough but can't fight Asian action focuses on story characters and real action you must of missed the interview where Stallone says today's American actors for the most part are wusses they use stunt guys for everything where he is old school where he broke his ribs and other things many times the old joke is if you want to be in a Stallone movie expect to have something broken or sprained
I was literally thinking of Stallone and Cruise when replying to your comment. I know Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, etc have an amazing work ethic and dedication to their craft. I have seen some.of their films, granted not all of them. But yes, Hong Kong action films are seriously some of the best action films of all time, for the very reasons you mentioned.
JoeyBslash 3 I am probably the hugest sly Stallone fan have most of his movies like the modern day martial arts guys too iko Tony ja donnie yen Micheal jai white Scott Adkins Jason staham those guys are all awesome I am looking forward to mile 22 as well you got some good points about Americans working hard as well it's just that we Asian action you could tell they really want it and really want to do there best I mean they are working for a fraction of what Hollywood stars are yet they are willing to risk themselves
For sure, they are hard workers. I'm happy to see Iko, yayan (maddog), and Cecep(the assassin in Raid 2) getting some Hollywood roles. Yayan and Cecep are in the upcoming John Wick 3.
JoeyBslash 3 yeah that's great donnie yen is getting more Hollywood work as well as in the latest xxx and one of the recent star wars I loved the raid movies I also love the John wick movies waiting for part 3 like Keanu Reeves a lot 2 he is someone as well that its all about the craft and work and pleasing the audience the big pay check just comes with it rather some you get the feeling it's about the big pay day
Great brakdown,...

JoeyBslash 3 yeah that's great donnie yen is getting more Hollywood work as well as in the latest xxx and one of the recent star wars I loved the raid movies I also love the John wick movies waiting for part 3 like Keanu Reeves a lot 2 he is someone as well that its all about the craft and work and pleasing the audience the big pay check just comes with it rather some you get the feeling it's about the big pay day
Good
