I left almost two years ago and I was 51. I was in for 27 years. I was getting restless during Covid. I knew something wasn’t right. Finally my daughter showed me about the CSA. That was it for me. I’m absolutely not sorry I left. I was in the world when they found me so going back wasn’t as hard as you might think. Sure I had to deprogram myself and the first six months was hard, but I had no family in, and knew that if my “friends” in the congregation were really friends, they wouldn’t shun me. They are only comrades , not friends.

This makes so much sense as to why my dad kept saying I don’t need to focus on the past when I talked to him a few days ago. He called me wanting to talk about being allowed to have beards now and I asked why wasn’t it allowed before and he just kept repeating I doesn’t make you happy dwelling on the past. Nostalgia is what saves us from insanity, nostalgia allows us to return to and recover our inner child. When I was beyond depressed and suicidal, I retreated to my childhood in my mind and it saved me. Years later, with medication and a positive environment, I am eager to face each and everyday as I now view every day as an opportunity to create something beautiful.

That is exactly how it felt being a child in the 90's being raised in the congregation (And I do mean being raised in the congregation. I wasn't allowed to associate with ANYONE that wasn't a witness.) As a young child that was very inquisitive and interested in learning, in history, etc., I enjoyed studying those things like the Revelation book or that one Daniel book we studied, we really did believe we were being given some hidden knowledge that the rest of the world didn't know about. And it was all the time, for years we would go on about this stuff. But now, as you say there is no doubt there is a "dumbing-down" of the "spiritual food" or whatever. I am very grateful for you making these videos Wally, rants and all. I like to keep my finger on their pulse because I still have almost all of my family stuck in this cult, and you take something that is horrible and painful, and bring out the comedy and love from it all. No celebrating holidays and not being able to have friends in school is cruel to children. This encapsulates growing up a JW. Not to mention your parents who believe this cult are mentally ill as well this is hell on earth.
No child will forget a JW upbringing. If the child is normal, he or she will rebel when ready. The damage done in a JW childhood is trauma. Of course GB wants everyone to forget because then the GB doesn’t have to apologize or be appropriately confronted.

I couldn't get my head around how the only explanation i got was we are all imperfect and we can't point the finger and how JEHOVAH SEES ALL... yet no one is accountable for their double life.. and im the one considered bad association because i wasnt progressing' more than I should have been at my age (13) meaning knocking on more doors and and giving more answers at meetings. But at school I hear from worldly classmates how my jw 'friends' or jw cousins were at he party on the weekend and were drunk and stripping on tables and giving out bjs. I think there's something going on here. When you tell people to stop being nostalgic about the past is that you're also telling them to stop thinking that the world is getting worse. That used to be a linchpin of their ministry, "the world is getting worse and worse, clearly we're approaching the time of the end!!!" But now recently they emphasized with some nu-light that the great tribulation will start completely without warning. Combining these two points, it seems possible to me that they are planning to drop the idea of the great tribulation as being something that is coming soon. They don't want their followers looking too much to the past or the future. They want them stuck in an eternal now of obedient docility, with no demands or expectations, no wondering about why Watchtower seems to be investing for a long future in this current system of things, no wondering about the number of anointed going up or down, no wondering about the recent whirlwind of doctrinal changes. Just obey, be content, and give free labor to the Dot Org.

I was in 25 years from the 70s to 90s, and out 25 yrs. Then I went back 6 years ago. WOW....Not the same!!!! Some good, but how about the 'new' light from the holy spirit? Really? Why would Jehovah have the holy spirit keep changing things inspired by the same scriptures? Then the recent changes...in the old days we dressed in fine clothes out of respect for being in the place of true worship of Jehovah, and now????? I saw brothers recently out in service wearing jeans, farm shirts and jackets. And beards? Add to that the time I sat in Dodger Stadium in 1974 when Bro Knorr stood on the platform holding the hand of a young boy and announced, "just think, Brothers and Sisters, this boy and others his age may never be required to attend school in this system... we'll be in the beautiful new system." My son is now close to 60 yrs old. So, a few months ago, while I was auxillary pioneering, I wrote a simple, to the point letter to the elders of my congregation, saying I no longer wish to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and this decision is final. These TH-cam programs have been a TRUE eye opener. Thank you, and congrats to you who have made this healthy decision.
Spot on. Most JWs are depressed and a lot are on medication. As the bible says in Proverbs «expectation delayed makes the heart sick ". All the failed prophecies and dates for last 150 years, makes for wasted live, and lost dreams. Now with the overlapping generation bs the WT have kicked the proverbial can down the road.

So, 10 or 12 years ago, my psychotic JW mother decided to destroy all of our childhood photos and her wedding pics from 1969. I couldn't understand why she "no longer wanted to live in the past." She passed away a few years ago, and now all of those memories are a fading thought in this old man's memory. These people are sick. Sick, sick. What a shame.

The watchtower and awake are barely a magazine nowadays. They used to come in by the post every 2 weeks. And it took several days to read them. And you would feel mighty cocky when you could use something you read in them in your answers during one of the 3 meetings each week. We studied the bible so thoroughly in the 80s and 90s. Now if you ask the new witnesses something they really don’t know.

So living in the past will give meaning for today, and the past is the foundation of the future. It also allows you to reflect on mistakes, so you can avoid them in the future. To confess error to family you have mistreated is not an option.

You put happiness in the future, that's where it's gonna stay. As a spiritual person, I'm so grateful I don't feel any compulsion to join any religion. I seek the fundamental truth in them all. Converting to anything is just ego. Just meditating and then dancing is my form of going to church.

Imagine being "so called" freed as a slave and looking at a desert wasteland, then reminiscing about what you used to have only to have your entire generation die in that wasteland wandering around following a cloud. I left almost two years ago and I was 51. I was in for 27 years. I was getting restless during Covid. I knew something wasn’t right. Finally my daughter showed me about the CSA. That was it for me. I’m absolutely not sorry I left. I was in the world when they found me so going back wasn’t as hard as you might think. Sure I had to deprogram myself and the first six months was hard, but I had no family in, and knew that if my “friends” in the congregation were really friends, they wouldn’t shun me. They are only comrades , not friends.

Nostalgia is what saves us from insanity, nostalgia allows us to return to and recover our inner child. When I was beyond depressed and suicidal, I retreated to my childhood in my mind and it saved me. Years later, with medication and a positive environment, I am eager to face each and everyday as I now view every day as an opportunity to create something beautiful.

That is exactly how it felt being a child in the 90's being raised in the congregation (And I do mean being raised in the congregation. I wasn't allowed to associate with ANYONE that wasn't a witness.) As a young child that was very inquisitive and interested in learning, in history, etc., I enjoyed studying those things like the Revelation book or that one Daniel book we studied, we really did believe we were being given some hidden knowledge that the rest of the world didn't know about. And it was all the time, for years we would go on about this stuff. But now, as you say there is no doubt there is a "dumbing-down" of the "spiritual food" or whatever. I am very grateful for you making these videos Wally, rants and all. I like to keep my finger on their pulse because I still have almost all of my family stuck in this cult, and you take something that is horrible and painful, and bring out the comedy and love from it all. I couldn't get my head around how the only explanation i got was we are all imperfect and we can't point the finger and how JEHOVAH SEES ALL... yet no one is accountable for their double life.. and im the one considered bad association because i wasnt progressing' more than I should have been at my age (13) meaning knocking on more doors and and giving more answers at meetings.
But at school I hear from worldly classmates how my jw 'friends' or jw cousins were at he party on the weekend and were drunk and stripping on tables and giving out bjs.

I think there's something going on here. When you tell people to stop being nostalgic about the past is that you're also telling them to stop thinking that the world is getting worse. That used to be a linchpin of their ministry, "the world is getting worse and worse, clearly we're approaching the time of the end!!!" But now recently they emphasized with some nu-light that the great tribulation will start completely without warning. Combining these two points, it seems possible to me that they are planning to drop the idea of the great tribulation as being something that is coming soon. They don't want their followers looking too much to the past or the future. They want them stuck in an eternal now of obedient docility, with no demands or expectations, no wondering about why Watchtower seems to be investing for a long future in this current system of things, no wondering about the number of anointed going up or down, no wondering about the recent whirlwind of doctrinal changes. Just obey, be content, and give free labor to the Dot Org.

Then the recent changes...in the old days we dressed in fine clothes out of respect for being in the place of true worship of Jehovah, and now????? I saw brothers recently out in service wearing jeans, farm shirts and jackets. And beards? Add to that the time I sat in Dodger Stadium in 1974 when Bro Knorr stood on the platform holding the hand of a young boy and announced, "just think, Brothers and Sisters, this boy and others his age may never be required to attend school in this system... we'll be in the beautiful new system." My son is now close to 60 yrs old. So, a few months ago, while I was auxillary pioneering, I wrote a simple, to the point letter to the elders of my congregation, saying I no longer wish to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and this decision is final. These TH-cam programs have been a TRUE eye opener. Thank you, and congrats to you who have made this healthy decision.

So, 10 or 12 years ago, my psychotic JW mother decided to destroy all of our childhood photos and her wedding pics from 1969. I couldn't understand why she "no longer wanted to live in the past." She passed away a few years ago, and now all of those memories are a fading thought in this old man's memory. These people are sick. Sick, sick. What a shame.

The watchtower and awake are barely a magazine nowadays. They used to come in by the post every 2 weeks. And it took several days to read them. And you would feel mighty cocky when you could use something you read in them in your answers during one of the 3 meetings each week. We studied the bible so thoroughly in the 80s and 90s. Now if you ask the new witnesses something they really don’t know.

Not surprising, checking the past might make them realize that the message was being changed a LOT and how JW's claims were empty over the years.
The Jw publications often used analogies to help couples when a marriage is on the rocks: Remember the good times. Look at your wedding album together, or browse through photos of other events that you shared together. Doing this can help you maintain-or rekindle-love and respect in your marriage.
