Recently came to the realization I have cPTSD from childhood. Growing up being physically punished for anything, even misunderstandings, dad acting like i wanted attention instead of reacting to how I felt or how he treated me. Being sad was wrong. When I started self harming and my dad found out he treated me like it was something I did to spite him, said I deserved to be beaten like a horse. Lyrics in this song describe the pain in a way I could never. My heart was broken without my knowing. All I see is resentment when ppl look at me, if I was miserable it was my fault so I had to take a smile. so many of my friendships now end bc I need something they can't give or I see them looking at my pain and start to turn away. I crave a connection I was never given. Thank you Benee for helping me feel less alone
This song has something for every generation. Just listen to how the dynamic of the song changes when they switch up the drum track. The first track makes the song relatable to something like Nirvana or any of those rock bands in the 90's. The 2nd drum track makes it sound more in line with the sounds of today's music. The cleverness to incorporate both sounds in at the same time for me makes this song an S tier.
