- For a long time I've heard about this legendary spot miners used to go to back in the GOLD RUSH where they pulled out TONS of gold. The only way one is aloud to pan/dig for gold there is if you have a claim or are with the local mining club (VIPMA). I recently joined up with the club so finally I'm seeing what all this hype is about!

Pro tip, if the gold is course always stay in your hole till its done. There might only be one good bit in the hole, but it'll be a great bit.

Vo-Gus Prospecting , glad I read this comment. I found some chunky pieces a few weeks ago on top of a deep crevice and am going back tomorrow to find the bottom and hopefully some chunky pieces. Great tip 🤙
Do you guys still pan in the Sooke/Leechtown area? I would love to find someone to go up there with and show me how it’s done. I moved to Sooke 2 years ago from England and I’m addicted to the history of the gold rush era and this area particular.
Back in 82 just downstream from the confluance of the Leech and Sooke sniped a freshly dug pit on the Wam Blasting claim, found the pay layer was pretty good but way to thin to be viable. Back then a free miner cert gave you the ability to carry a hand gun and you could pan on any placer claim, but you couldn't use a shovel.
Ive heard about the ol firearm carrying rule too I think thats awesome! Your still almost not aloud to carry a shovel..strange rules here 😅

Have you tried breaking up big quartz rocks like that to see if there is any gold in it?
I lost a crow bar once, found it 4months later. So i put bright paint on it. Problem was it blended in.

PioneerPauly I have seen some big pieces of gold found at my secret river from a few experienced prospectors, I am yet to find a really good nugget !!! But where you go seems to offer everything from tiny tiny specs to good nuggets. Love the video productions though PP, I think you and Two toes are leading the way on TH-cam.

You don't need an fmc to get into panning. Just for claims! You can hand pan anywhere in bc accept parks, reserver and private land.
