Never happened to me. Never lost a dime. Reason why is I've never invested money. I've never trusted banks. I don't put a dime in the bank. I've never bought land either. Why pay interest and taxes on something that is allegedly already yours? The answer is simple. It's never really yours. It's an illusion so the state and government can make money off of you. I rent because essentially that's all your doing anyway, but I'm not paying taxes on it and I pay less than what most mortgages would cost yearly.. My friend pays $3600 a year for 20 acres of property and the state doesn't do anything to help that land. It just sits collecting money for the state. America government are nothing but theives. We've given them too much power. There's taxes on everything now and banks use your money to get richer. A scam and people accept and participate in it. Not me.

The FDIC insures $250,000 per account, and you can get some sort of interest on the money you put in. You only get lose money in this manner if you throw your money into a mutual fund or some other managed account, which the manager doesn't care about because his pay isn't based on its yearly return. Take control of your own money, make your own investments, and you can get great returns. It's easy to think the world is against you if you're losing money. Take the time to understand everything, and that won't happen. Banks do manipulate the forex market in some regards, but if you're smart, that gives you yet another way to profit by predicting how they will manipulate the market to siphon off the most money. This is more true than people realize. When you withdrawal money from the bank, you're withdrawling money that the bank has loaned, not the money that you put into the bank in the first place.
nguyen danny Yes, but unlike then, we have the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) which prevents that sort of thing, by federally insuring all bank accounts up to $250,000, as long as they are FDIC members (and I don't know of any banks that aren't). Basically, if you don't have more than a quarter million dollars in the bank, then you can't technically "lose" it. And if you have MORE than a quarter million, you can't lose that quarter mill. Although, this applies to deposits made into bank accounts (checking or savings accounts). Anything you elect to invest anywhere, such as stock market or IRAs, are not protected. So while I get the point of the scene depicted in this video...it's potentially erroneous, as Stan wasn't intent on making any investments. Just a deposit into a savings account. The BANK lost $100, but Stan's account of $100 value is federally insured, so long as the bank was FDIC member. He actually would've lost nothing. Stan went to invest his money not just make a deposit on a bank account. The guy of the bank immediately made complex and high risk investments based on mutual funds and foreign currency and loses everything, the FDIC can not cover that sort of thing.

Never happened to me. Never lost a dime. Reason why is I've never invested money. I've never trusted banks. I don't put a dime in the bank. I've never bought land either. Why pay interest and taxes on something that is allegedly already yours? The answer is simple. It's never really yours. It's an illusion so the state and government can make money off of you. I rent because essentially that's all your doing anyway, but I'm not paying taxes on it and I pay less than what most mortgages would cost yearly.. My friend pays $3600 a year for 20 acres of property and the state doesn't do anything to help that land. It just sits collecting money for the state. America government are nothing but theives. We've given them too much power. There's taxes on everything now and banks use your money to get richer. A scam and people accept and participate in it. Not me.

However, if I'm understanding you correctly, not putting your money into any investments at all makes no financial sense. The FDIC insures $250,000 per account, and you can get some sort of interest on the money you put in. You only get lose money in this manner if you throw your money into a mutual fund or some other managed account, which the manager doesn't care about because his pay isn't based on its yearly return. Take control of your own money, make your own investments, and you can get great returns.
It's easy to think the world is against you if you're losing money. Take the time to understand everything, and that won't happen. Banks do manipulate the forex market in some regards, but if you're smart, that gives you yet another way to profit by predicting how they will manipulate the market to siphon off the most money.

This is more true than people realize. When you withdrawal money from the bank, you're withdrawling money that the bank has loaned, not the money that you put into the bank in the first place.
nguyen danny Yes, but unlike then, we have the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) which prevents that sort of thing, by federally insuring all bank accounts up to $250,000, as long as they are FDIC members (and I don't know of any banks that aren't). Basically, if you don't have more than a quarter million dollars in the bank, then you can't technically "lose" it. And if you have MORE than a quarter million, you can't lose that quarter mill.
Although, this applies to deposits made into bank accounts (checking or savings accounts). Anything you elect to invest anywhere, such as stock market or IRAs, are not protected.
So while I get the point of the scene depicted in this video...it's potentially erroneous, as Stan wasn't intent on making any investments. Just a deposit into a savings account. The BANK lost $100, but Stan's account of $100 value is federally insured, so long as the bank was FDIC member. He actually would've lost nothing.
Then again, I guess a bank that operates that way, probably WOULDN'T be FDIC member, huh?

Angel Bowfinger As yourself said, the insurance is used to cover the accounts when a Bank is broken, not to cover individual losses related to risk investments. Stan went to invest his money not just make a deposit on a bank account. The guy of the bank immediately made complex and high risk investments based on mutual funds and foreign currency and loses everything, the FDIC can not cover that sort of thing.
Igor Oliveira Actually, the impression that I got, was that Stan only wanted to open a SAVINGS account, with a drawing interest, and nothing more. The guy took the money and invested it FOR Stan, without his consent. In fact, Stan didn't even know what was going on.
