I’d be fascinated to see your perspective on things like the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution given the impact it played on the English consciousness (much of our constitution is unchanged since the latter) and it played a massive part in America’s founding as well.

He did a video with historia civilis where it involved Cromwell's trial against the king after the English civil war. VTH said that his ancestors fought against the king in the civil war but he personally found the trial, Cromwell's intentions and the outcome distasteful. Do not know his exact opinions but it was interesting to hear his perspective.

Well my opinion on this has been well expressed here. At this time in history, it was the job of the monarch to rule his kingdom wisely and to provide aquate provision for a succession. The 'House of Stuart' had two chances to do this, failed both times- due to their out of touch "divine right" opinion...the same misguided opinion that also lost Louis XVI his head in France in 1792.
Both Stuart and Bourbon king's failed to understand that the world had changed with enlightenment, as did the Romanov's a little over 100 years later. It was no longer good enough to be born royal, you needed political acumen......... absent in all three cases.

Little fun fact: Along with Mary, Elizabeth and Edward, their stepmother Anna von Kleve/Anne of Cleves is also buried in Westminster Abbey. Despite her unfortunate marriage, she turned out to be one of the true survivors of the reign of Henry VIII. I would absolutely love to see her grave one day and pay my respects to her.

The most of the early English (Saxon) monarchs didn't reign very long, mostly due to the fairly continuous warfare between the local kingdoms around the British Isles. The formation of "England was started with Alfred (the Great) of Wessex and his fightback against the Danes, which was continued by his son Edward the Elder and Daughter Aethelflead (who was the Queen of Mercia) and completed by Aethelstan.

I've been watching many of your videos and you really do a great job mashing genuine reaction and interest with in depth information, I unfortunately never was too much into history back in school, but channels such as yours kindled my interest in it more and more, and I love it.
I know you've made videos on some of the monarchy/genealogy lines by Useful Charts, have you ever considered checking out CGP Grey's one on the Royal Family? Love the channel. As a fellow history lover, former North East Ohio resident. However I am back thankfully in my home in East Texas. Texas has several battlefields you could always visit for videos. If you ever had an interest in battles in Texas. I grew up here so it's normal for me to know they're there and have visited them as a kid. Alamo of course, and many more. It's very deflating to go with all the city around it but still holy ground that isn't to be disrespected on the premises.

Apparently, Victor Lieberman (a historian who wrote two volumes comparing the developmental history of Asian countries with European countries) notes something along the lines of Britain being transformed from being one of the most devout Catholic nations into one of the most anti-Catholic due to the Reformation. I think this was the lecture where he mentions this: th-cam.com/video/JDTXo5PgR4o/w-d-xo.html (pretty interesting lecture too otherwise)

12:50 I would say there's a decent chance both of them caught some kind of fatal disease in the Tower and were hastily buried in order to prevent any news from coming out under Richard III, people don't assume mundane stuff as much as people ought to about these mysteries.

Possible, but the skeletons they found are of the appropiate ages and one of them had a carved-in skull. They were examined in the 1930s. DNA tests would be better, but they had to be exumed for this.

I know you do mostly Civil War and Presidential history for the US, but I would love to hear you react to a video on the Columbine massacre. It was a pivotal part of American History and changed the country and the world.

The Winchester Cathedral that is pictured was not the original. It is actually the 3rd one built there. The original housed the tomb of Alfred the Great who is lost to history now.

I was hoping you would do this video at some point. Sad that so many of these were lost, many in the reign of Henry VIII and some in the French Revolution.
