Congrats! I applied for JET in 2016 and wasn't even given an interview. I immediately applied to eikaiwas and was accepted by AEON and taught English in Fukushima City. Great experience. Wish JET would have hired me though, I made it in eikaiwa, why couldn't I in JET?
I feel like its a mystery why some people get on JET and others dont.. Congrats on getting to Fukushima! I loved it there!! Hmm, yeah thats a good question why AEON took you but JET didnt. maybe jet has a bigger name and more applicants?? My theory is JET and the high school placements they have are looking for very specific people to fit their spots, for example at my school, there are 3 ALTs and they keep hiring people with very similar backgrounds in research, heavily involved in science, and its always two americans and one non-american. or it couldve just been luck! =O are you still in japan?! Thanks for your comment!!!
@@globefloppingwithadri No longer in Japan. I left after working for AEON. I'm back in america now but hoping to return eventually to do language school
hey kiralucy! Thanks!! it was absolutely the best place I have lived! It was subsidized by the Japanese government! It's government teachers housing!! do you live in Japan, too?!? thanks for your comment!
@@globefloppingwithadri I wish. it's a dream of mine one day. I watched a lot of abroad in Japan and just some of the views Japan has is so breath taking In a good way of course haha. Plus the culture seems very lovely and very admirable. I want to sign up for the jet program or a few others one day but sadly with my current health cause gastritis, ulcers and a hernia at age 28 turning 29 in Sept probably dont look the most appealing lol. But I been trying to learn japanese on my own which is fun but bit hard. Kanji seems like fun but very easy to forget which makes me nervous xd. Also I'm really glad to hear that. My uncle once got a chance to be on the marine base in Okinawa and he said it was so much fun and people were very nice and polite.
In the area where I live there are really affordable apartment as well, but I decided to go for smaller but newer ones ( and of course more expensive) a side the fact that having a cat, tatami is not a option for me and a lot of older places has that, I will be quite worried to live in a place older then 1995, since you live here in Japan as well you will know why. An other big reason for me are ゴキブリ older places has more chances to have them, so far so good in my last 2 places I didn’t have any encounters 😆 but I did have seen them at my boyfriend apartment which is from 1988.
oh my goodness, the gokiburi!!!!!! I was so lucky to live on the 4th floor, since I only got one goki-bro once! it was laying on its back dead in my shower in almost a cartoon-like fashion. of course, i proceeded to do the usual steps anyone takes (screamed bloody murder, then ran around my apartment yelling "WHAT DO I DO?!? WHAT DO I DO?!?!?! then put the goki-bro into a newspaper, then took the newspaper to my balcony and set it and the newspaper on fire XD) nice you can have a cat though! since i lived in government subsidized housing, they didnt let us have any pets :( smaller and newer apartments sound good!!! the issue with mine other than what you mentioned with the age and safety is the tatami must be replaced every so often . that often causes many argunments o_O and the schools polocy on who pays and when changes very often since the staff also swich out very often and the tatami policy seems to be dependent on the office staff..super annoying...worth the experience tho!!! Were you on JET?! Thanks for your comment!!
how was the process of getting into the jet program. its my main program i want to try for, I've done my associates here and have been taking some time off from school, building work experience with getting licensed as an insurance agent, and handling claims. i'd say within the next few yrs i should complete my bachelors of communications, and with insurance work experience, would i need more for the jet program? i other than a tefl certification?
the process was a year-ish long process, i applied i believe in november (to be honest, I decided to even apply two weeks before and just rushed my application in o_O ) then did an interview in january, got my acceptance email in march, then was off in july, all while sending off the papers and health forms and documents they need all during this process. We had to write I believe a one page personal statement, get two letters of REC, and show proof of graduation from a 4 year university, among other things. for the JET program, you dont actually need a TEFL cert, and the JET program actually offers a TEFL certification subsidy of $200 to encourage you to get the cert when youre on jet, so i really dont think its required at all, and arguably not necessary either. what theyre looking for is - Someone with a bachelors degree someone who can quickly adapt on the spot Someone who is a good representative of their country and can act as a cultural ambassador Someone who is outgoing and able to help the kids learn english, and interact with the kiddos! Hope this helps! Lemmie know fi you have any more questions!
@@globefloppingwithadri thank you so much!!! that sounds awesome, sounds like the general response about the process, its like the perf fit for me, I've wanted to teach English since i was 11 and I'm 21 now, just a really big change and move, so i wanna build work experience before, definitely quickly adapting is a skill I've almost been forced to learn haha, and seeing people teach kids is just what i think i'd excell at I'm super super excited! thank you so much again!
@@cataloid and yeah this sounds like the absolutely perfect fit for you! With that being said, I do agree with the notion that doing JET is a big dice roll since you cant ultimately choose your coworkers, your BOE, or where you work- super inaka, remote island, urban, super urban. If you dont like it though, you can leave any time =D the world is yours!!!
for me, i personally LOVED IT. kansai, osaka, and kyushu are my favorite areas, with kansai being #1!!!! ALTIA, JET, INTERAC, the mext scholarship can all get you over here! eikaiwas too! thanks for your comment!!
