This was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, it really helped me in quickly changing between the cords 😀

Justin is one of the top guitar teachers on TH-cam.
He's obviously well schooled in music and theory. He' NOT just someone who's self taught who knows some chords and licks so just decided to start a "guitar channel". And that's what makes Justin a proper guitar teacher, and sets his lessons heads and shoulders above the average TH-camr teaching guitar!!
Just one, but extremely important example:
Many "teachers" on TH-cam, don't even understand how music is written. They don't know that music is written in measures/bars, with different time signatures etc.. (and thats a scary thought!)
And this is something you MUST understand if you ever expect to progress into a decent musician/guitarist!! You absolutely must understand the language of music. And that means counting music properly!
I don't want to write a book here, so I'm just discussing this ONE aspect of Justins excellent teaching. That of counting music in the time signatures it's written in.
    Example:
When you hear a "guitar teacher" saying things like, then you "Play this note 7 times", and then you "play this note 3 more times" so forth and so on, that's a bad sign. And leads me to believe they probably don't understand music and how to count music. And if they can't count music, you do NOT want them as your teacher!
I can't tell you how often I've heard people teaching or performing a song on TH-cam, where its just one person and their guitar, and sad to say, the song is terrible. Not because they sound bad, but simply because their rhythm guitar playing is atrocious because they don't understand rhythm and don't understand time signatures. They'll be playing a strum pattern that's completely out of time with the time signature of the song.
ie. They'll be singing a basic blues piece, progression in 4-4 time, but their strumming rhythm is entirely random, fitting no time sequence at all. They might be strumming 5 or 7 beats per measure while playing a 4/4 time signature piece, always rushing or pausing in an attempt to make their strumming "fit". Never knowing where the 1 beat of the next measure starts.
This happens because they were never taught about time signatures and how music is written, or how to count music. And despite many of these people being very talented, their music suffers terribly that lack of knowledge. It's almost always the "self taught" guitarist that has this problem.
And what's even worse, is that MANY of these self taught guitarists, don't even realize just how terrible their playing sounds, and don't even know that their poor rhythm playing is destroying their song. Many consider their guitar more as a background noise, and as long as a chord is ringing out that they can sing over they believe it to sound correct. Which of course is entirely wrong. The single acoustic guitar acts an instrument that entirely sets the tempo, the "mood" the groove, and rhythm of the song being performed.
And if their strumming (which equate to the tempo, mood, groove & rhythm of the song) is out of time or is erratic , it throws the entire piece of music out of whack with it, and instantly turns a potentially great performance, into a terrible performance.
Being a guitarist/musician for longer than I wish to remember at this point, (35+ years), I can't help but to add one more thought.
I constantly see beginners wanting to learn to play "lead" guitar, to play "amazing" solos and all that, and that's what they watch and practice via TH-cam. Meanwhile, they can't even hardly play an F chord, but they're trying to learn the note for note solo to Skynards Free-Bird.!! And you hear some of these people play decent solo licks, but they can't even strum to basic 4/4 time and keep rhythm.
Playing good rhythm guitar seems to be something nobody wants to learn to do anymore. And great rhythm players are few and far between. Hell, even mediocre rhythm guitarists are few and far between when it comes to videos on TH-cam!
So to you beginners out there, do yourself a huge favor, and LEARN and PRACTICE your rhythm guitar skills, get good at it, and learn to count music!! You'll be having potential band mates knocking your door down to join their jam sessions!! while the guy who only mastered playing the Free-bird solo note for note, will be sitting at home playing along with his Skynard album!
I can't emphasize the importance of good rhythm guitar! And when you've got that down pat, THEN put your time into learning those solos.
You'll also have a big jump on learning those solos once you're a competent rhythm guitarist.
So thank you Justin, for being a great guitar teacher, who nearly always points out ALL of these important aspects of playing music! Instead of just showing us a lick or two!! 👍👍

Hi Justin, I’ve just found your Chanel (great lesson) and I’m trying to play this on my baritone ukulele. I can do the Duuduududu pattern, but I can’t tell if the chord change comes after the third down, or on it🧐. When you demonstrate, you’re teaching the embellishments too, and it’s hard for me to pick out just the plain song with the strum pattern. I know you did this tutorial a few months ago, but it would help so much if you clarified that for me. 🙏🎶🌷

Hey, so this is my first pretty fast song I've tried playing. I've been used to having my leg go down with every down beat, but for this fast a song, my legs going up and down quite alot. Is this what I should be doing? If I try to only go down on the beats, whilst my strumming hand is going down in-between, it's tricky.
