Verses 1-10: Paul's Visit to Jerusalem and Recognition of His Apostleship
Paul recounts his visit to Jerusalem after 14 years of ministry to present the gospel he preaches among the Gentiles.
He met with the leaders (James, Peter, and John), who recognized the grace given to Paul and affirmed his apostolic mission to the Gentiles.
They agreed that Paul and Barnabas should continue preaching to the Gentiles while they would focus on the Jews, only requesting that Paul remember the poor, which he was eager to do.
Verses 11-14: Paul Confronts Peter in Antioch
Paul describes an incident in Antioch where he confronted Peter publicly for his hypocrisy.
Peter, who had been eating with Gentile believers, withdrew and separated himself when certain men from James arrived, fearing those who belonged to the circumcision group.
Even Barnabas was led astray by Peter's actions, causing division among the believers.
Verses 15-21: Justification by Faith Alone
Paul reaffirms that Jews and Gentiles alike are justified by faith in Jesus Christ, not by observing the law.
He argues that if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing.
Paul emphasizes that he has been crucified with Christ and now lives by faith in Him who loved him and gave Himself for him.
He concludes that he does not nullify the grace of God; righteousness does not come through the law but through faith in Christ.
