Im already day dreaming of the Taiga 154 and hauling a skiff to carry a generator to "fuel up" out in the boondocks. He said "No CVT" so there goes my job down the tubes....haha
If your sled ran out of gas at 75km you better get it to the shop for a serious tune up! That is only 46 miles. Your sled must be running terrible! Do you have one of your spark wires disconnected? Either that or your tank must be about a five gallon tank, but even that would get you further than 46 miles.

Sometimes we haul a skiff full of 5 gallon cans in with us to get another 2 hours of riding. In a climb like that in the video, I can get 75kmh track speed, with my clutch kit, 5kmh track speed more than stock. Im not sure about this, do the batteries hold their charge in really cold temps. On a bad day I'll do 150kms a good day +350km. Im interested to see the progress in the next few years. This might be for the beginners or casual riders for now
I like it, like buddy said a lot of their clients so far are resorts and the like which makes total sense, rent em and toot em around or taking people to some good hills for the skiing and boarding types then just charge it back at the shack, probably gonna save those guys thousands on gas in the first year

If there is no cvt does it coast at all? I ride in Montana and when we go on big boy rides we have spots we leave gas for the ride out. I assume we could leave a battery.
ive been using graphene batteries in race quads for years. hold the power strong all the way through the charge, very minimal sag, but when they die, they dead.
Those are some cool sleds for sure. Thought the price was around your average 2 stroke sled but then realized it's in usd not cad which is weird being a canadian company. Almost sold on one but definitely got some questions. Like what would the approximate final price be one a mountian sled version? Do they have a teather set up on them? I wont ride without one. How long till the battery starts to loose its life? Like in 2 years will it only last 80% of what it used to? Do they have scratchers for running on hard pack still to live the sliders? And one big question I have is for reservation holders when would we get to test one and where do we have to travel to test one out. I'm in middle of BC and I'm not going to travel very far to test one out. Otherwise looks like it has real potential. It would definitely be hard to out climb with a 2 stroke if it's set up right.
For people afraid of being stranded, I mean you can pack 60 kms onto a Taiga in just 60 mins if a medium sized 30amp draw generator and level 2 charging station is designed for emergencies. It’s not ideal but hey, it’s better than being completely dead. I think this is awesome! A real breakthrough. Keeping the forest quiet alone on weekends would be nice... pipes are getting ridiculous!
Neat sled, but it's not for me. I go on trips that are over 200km with nowhere to recharge along the way. I also have to wonder what leaving one of these outside overnight at -40 not plugged in would do to the battery (yes, I do occasionally do this with my 2-stroke, spending the night out at cabin in remote area in the dead of winter in northern Canada, no power).
Once battery chemistry advances and allows for more energy density this will be awesome. Until then gas will dominate. If you're going deep in the bush what are you going to do, strap a generator on the back of the tunnel?
This sled looks awesome and, being a Tech. Professional, EVs have always intrigued me. This one is no exception. But, there are so many questions about charging..... -As a trail rider, it's not uncommon for our crew 160 to 200 km in a day. For those of us in the states, that 100 to 125 miles. Just a hunch but you won't find many, if any, fast charging stations on the trails in the states. Canada may be a different story. -If you do any sort of weekend or extended excursion to ride in new terrain/provinces/states you had better map out your riding very carefully before you even head out on the road to get to your destination. If you plan on staying in a hotel, there is a good chance they have a fast charger for EVs; however, if you stay in any type of vacation rental property place there is a good chance you won't even have 240V to charge the sled. For shorter rides, these would be awesome. Their FAQ page taigamotors.ca/faq/ seems to have a lot of good answers on it. Time to do some reading and research. Hopefully there is a dealer close to where I am at.
I’d use an good ‘ol 440 skandic with a flat cargo sleigh to tow it up and down my spots. That way you have more range available up there and have a backup sled if you run out of batteries. I usually never go above 100km a day but better safe then sorry haha

One of the most satisfying things on a normal snowmobile is when u wheelie in the deep snow and you can just hear the engine scream with a nice can. This just seems weird lol

As time goes electric vehicle competition increases and battery development goes up too so hopefully soon, lighter more powerful battery’s will be in the market for Taiga
@Darren Bertker actually for mountain riding or trail, having a touring or utility sled pack a generator with a 30 amp draw and as stated in 20 mins could load another 80kms for each sled, doesn’t seem to me to be much of a problem. Sort of an endless pail of fuel for a very small amount of gas for the generator. Problem solved.
@@rippinEH "COULD" recharge with a generator, but youre not getting more energy outta the system than you're putting in. Example: If elec sled dies out at distance where a regular sled would require two gallons gasoline to return to camp, the generator gonna burn about 3 gallons gas to charge that battery enough to get back to camp. Since there is efficiency losses each time of converting the energy to another form (chemical to kinetic to voltaic then back to kinetic) The idea "works", just understand you need to bring significantly more generator fuel on your utility sled than your riding group would otherwise carry in their reserve cans if everybody riding gas powered.
Great to see more innovation in the snowmobile industry. I feel like they missed an opportunity to do something cool with all the free space up front with no airbox/ engine/ exhaust there.
These things probably already weigh more than an S-Chassis Skidoo with all these ideas the things would end up weighing like 1000lbs 😂 def not my style I need something super light for the kind of riding I do. I could see the Nomad one getting popular though, those things seem like they would be perfect on trails.
Everyone complaining about running out of battery. How many times a day do you ride your sled 100 miles currently? Not very often. I may buy one when they come out just to have one.
I will miss the sound of the two stroke but it's the way we're going no question. Batteries and electronics are only getting better. I definitely won't miss the guy going by the cabin wide open with a race can! For us in the mountains I doubt we would get near the 140km range, way to much time wide open trenching holes
Ski areas are going to love these. I wonder if they will have a universal/standardized charge plug in so when the Tesla is charged you can plug in the sled

I like the idea but it would need to get a minimum of 300 miles on a charge. Does that range include using heated visors, boots, charging your phone, communicators and how much does temperature affect the range. Electric cars lose massive amounts of range when they are run hard. A snowmobile is normally ridden a lot harder than a car, if ridden properly. :-) If you do run out of battery juice it would require a gas driven sled to recover it.
PowerModz i bring gas with me so yes i run out but im not stuck with no fuel like a battery. Plus that battery wont last long theyre rode hard which uses a shit ton of battery and if tou have heated anything plugged in and on that battery will last even less

Do you know whats the weight on the long track model ? Seems like it could be a sensible proper mountain sled for casual guys like me, no oil/straps/plugs to worry about, just rip on it for a while then plug it and take it out when ever you have time
Now 100/140km for trail riding? only if there are charging stations on the trail systems(Bars, Restaurants and Gas Station). If and when that occurs im in 100% The concept has finally become the real thing, wicked.

Trappers or ice fisherman should start rethinking snowmobiling all together when these battery sleds get released to the public. What a game changer! You should tell him to arm rural areas where the trails are with power station chargers at the gas stations. In Michigan and northern men here there is few gas stations to hit. You can drive 20 miles to 50 miles before hitting one. It wouldn’t be a crazy idea since their isn’t so many. Hell I bet once electric gets going in snowmobiles gas stations will part to get your charger station and the outlet you use should be licensed out to all the snowmobile companies so it isn’t like phones where usb b c and lightning cables exist. Get a hold of the state and label the stations on the trail map that have chargers. Those sleds are faster than stock ones right now. 0-60 in 3.7-4.0 seconds is probably as fast as your seeing now. If under 3 is true that would be fun
I can see BRP taking a serious interest in this ... They already bought Alta motors for the tech rights, so you know they're thinking about electric vehicles. This sled looks so similar to BRP's current product lines that I can't help thinking they had some design influence. No CVT is huge. I've always thought if you could eliminate a CVT you could make a very skinny sled and at the same time eliminate a host of issues associated with belt driven power transfer. The range isn't great, but it has its applications. Cost will be a hard sell for a lot of people. Definitely going to be a limited market (like National Park Service rentals, etc.).
I'd rather run outta gas then outta charge unless it was a lithium ion battery like off the impact drill hehe then I can have a handful of little batteries in my backpack

Just needs a switch to change the acceleration when you need to smoke your buddy just like a Tesla car. It’s no joke, 180hp is there programming and there will be a ton more power if you compromise the distance. Even cummins has introduced there full electric drivetrains for the future of heavy class 4-8 trucks!

on the hill if the staging area is close your lucky too put on 100km, some days 80kms and that's a full day of riding and the tank is empty by the time you get too the truck, but that's a sweet powder pussy day! No way the electric version is good enough for mountain riding,we need better battery tech! Also ear horsepower cant be replaced on our archaic 2 strokes!! A piped 2 stroke screaming is the best feeling ever riding and watching guys climb!
It's a starting point. Increase the range and you'll get a lot more interest. Much like the electric cars as well. Likely not too far down the road. Side note. Get a better microphone Louie.
I mean, considering the sport it has to do with, would it be so crazy if part of the battery supply was dedicated to heating the battery? I don't know how they're going to make this work but I think a smart feature would just be a battery heater switch that you could turn on even while the sled isn't in use. It could be a low enough heat where its maybe only heating it 10-20 degrees above freezing so it retains its charge without wasting much battery life while heating. Like for instance you could stop for lunch and flip the heat on but still take the key with you so no one rides off with your sled. Because I agree. I was thinking how cool a Electric sled would be, but how would the battery hold a charge when its constantly surrounded by things that are cold. But ultimately I hope this happens, electric vehicles are cool and they are the future.

Watch for the modders to figure something out. A custom toboggan to haul around a big enough generator to keep you charged up as you ride

If you go down hill does it charge the battery at all? Or does it charge if it is getting towed or the track is spinning?

One of the most satisfying things on a normal snowmobile is when u wheelie in the deep snow and you can just hear the engine scream with a nice can. This just seems weird lol

As time goes electric vehicle competition increases and battery development goes up too so hopefully soon, lighter more powerful battery’s will be in the market for Taiga

@Darren Bertker actually for mountain riding or trail, having a touring or utility sled pack a generator with a 30 amp draw and as stated in 20 mins could load another 80kms for each sled, doesn’t seem to me to be much of a problem. Sort of an endless pail of fuel for a very small amount of gas for the generator. Problem solved.
@@rippinEH "COULD" recharge with a generator, but youre not getting more energy outta the system than you're putting in. Example: If elec sled dies out at distance where a regular sled would require two gallons gasoline to return to camp, the generator gonna burn about 3 gallons gas to charge that battery enough to get back to camp. Since there is efficiency losses each time of converting the energy to another form (chemical to kinetic to voltaic then back to kinetic)
The idea "works", just understand you need to bring significantly more generator fuel on your utility sled than your riding group would otherwise carry in their reserve cans if everybody riding gas powered.
Would love one. But wander how it would hold up to extremely cold temperatures. Gets to be around minus 40 around here n we still like to play.

Great to see more innovation in the snowmobile industry. I feel like they missed an opportunity to do something cool with all the free space up front with no airbox/ engine/ exhaust there.

These things probably already weigh more than an S-Chassis Skidoo with all these ideas the things would end up weighing like 1000lbs 😂 def not my style I need something super light for the kind of riding I do. I could see the Nomad one getting popular though, those things seem like they would be perfect on trails.

Everyone complaining about running out of battery. How many times a day do you ride your sled 100 miles currently? Not very often. I may buy one when they come out just to have one.
I will miss the sound of the two stroke but it's the way we're going no question. Batteries and electronics are only getting better. I definitely won't miss the guy going by the cabin wide open with a race can! For us in the mountains I doubt we would get near the 140km range, way to much time wide open trenching holes

I like the idea but it would need to get a minimum of 300 miles on a charge. Does that range include using heated visors, boots, charging your phone, communicators and how much does temperature affect the range. Electric cars lose massive amounts of range when they are run hard. A snowmobile is normally ridden a lot harder than a car, if ridden properly. :-) If you do run out of battery juice it would require a gas driven sled to recover it.
PowerModz i bring gas with me so yes i run out but im not stuck with no fuel like a battery. Plus that battery wont last long theyre rode hard which uses a shit ton of battery and if tou have heated anything plugged in and on that battery will last even less

Now you might bend the tunnel from the weight but that's a different story 😂 I don't like this, soon other brands are gonna follow and make their lineup electric. Do you know whats the weight on the long track model ? Seems like it could be a sensible proper mountain sled for casual guys like me, no oil/straps/plugs to worry about, just rip on it for a while then plug it and take it out when ever you have time

Now 100/140km for trail riding? only if there are charging stations on the trail systems(Bars, Restaurants and Gas Station). If and when that occurs im in 100% The concept has finally become the real thing, wicked.

Trappers or ice fisherman should start rethinking snowmobiling all together when these battery sleds get released to the public. What a game changer! You should tell him to arm rural areas where the trails are with power station chargers at the gas stations. In Michigan and northern men here there is few gas stations to hit. You can drive 20 miles to 50 miles before hitting one. It wouldn’t be a crazy idea since their isn’t so many. Hell I bet once electric gets going in snowmobiles gas stations will part to get your charger station and the outlet you use should be licensed out to all the snowmobile companies so it isn’t like phones where usb b c and lightning cables exist. Get a hold of the state and label the stations on the trail map that have chargers. Those sleds are faster than stock ones right now. 0-60 in 3.7-4.0 seconds is probably as fast as your seeing now. If under 3 is true that would be fun
I can see BRP taking a serious interest in this ... They already bought Alta motors for the tech rights, so you know they're thinking about electric vehicles. This sled looks so similar to BRP's current product lines that I can't help thinking they had some design influence. No CVT is huge. I've always thought if you could eliminate a CVT you could make a very skinny sled and at the same time eliminate a host of issues associated with belt driven power transfer. The range isn't great, but it has its applications. Cost will be a hard sell for a lot of people. Definitely going to be a limited market (like National Park Service rentals, etc.).

Couldn’t make it to the nearest lodge and back from my door without a charge and I can see all the charging stations being installed in remote areas being run by gas generators , cool concept but not practical, battery technology isn’t feasible yet .

Just needs a switch to change the acceleration when you need to smoke your buddy just like a Tesla car. It’s no joke, 180hp is there programming and there will be a ton more power if you compromise the distance. Even cummins has introduced there full electric drivetrains for the future of heavy class 4-8 trucks!

@@Sackmatters because you don't doesn't negate the fact that it's an issue elsewhere in the world. You have all sorts of people looking to shutdown our sport with any excuse. Take away the exhaust from a snowmobile, it's one less opportunity for them to restrict our riding spots.

on the hill if the staging area is close your lucky too put on 100km, some days 80kms and that's a full day of riding and the tank is empty by the time you get too the truck, but that's a sweet powder pussy day! No way the electric version is good enough for mountain riding,we need better battery tech! Also ear horsepower cant be replaced on our archaic 2 strokes!! A piped 2 stroke screaming is the best feeling ever riding and watching guys climb!

I mean, considering the sport it has to do with, would it be so crazy if part of the battery supply was dedicated to heating the battery? I don't know how they're going to make this work but I think a smart feature would just be a battery heater switch that you could turn on even while the sled isn't in use. It could be a low enough heat where its maybe only heating it 10-20 degrees above freezing so it retains its charge without wasting much battery life while heating. Like for instance you could stop for lunch and flip the heat on but still take the key with you so no one rides off with your sled. Because I agree. I was thinking how cool a Electric sled would be, but how would the battery hold a charge when its constantly surrounded by things that are cold. But ultimately I hope this happens, electric vehicles are cool and they are the future.
