#4.1 not only the special effects (literally combining EVERY trick in the book) but the whole style of this movie (camera work, set pieces, costumes etc.) is out of this world. Just like the first movie, T2 is set in the present, but it looks so fantastic, just like a present we never had. And don't forget the score, it's an evolution of the original soundtrack witch emotional and heroic parts. And it includes "You could be mine" as a perfect continuation of the rock parts from T1 (Tahnee Cain and Tryanglz). Arnold as the T-800 was so badass but also became human in the end. How cool AND touching is that? It was the career peak for the whole team.
Here's my #1 reason why it's not: Furlong's acting "skills". Completely shatters the entire illusion of the movie and made me realize I'm watching a movie every time he opens his mouth.
T2 is the best action film ever made. Its arguably the best sequel ever made. Cameron cant act. But he can do everything else. He knows how it should be at least 98% of the time. Linda Hamilton was totally robbed of an Oscar nomination for T2. Everyone took her intense and complex performance for granted. But this side of Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, there are no better female action heroes.
I still feel that the original film is unbeatable, even though T2 was Directed by the James Cameron again. Yes the sfx cant compete with those of the sequel (although some among them STILL look very impressive especially that Endo Skeleton like nothing seen before) in fact that's my point, EVERYTHING was new as science fiction the 1st time, where as come the sequel, we know how Arnie looks, & weve seen the chrome Skeleton, already, it's like rewrapping your presents & expecting to be surprised. BUT the sequel is good for different reasons, with so much more money they made a film perhaps more...important than the original, with much more emphasis on the Nuclear threat. I'd say Cameron did as a sequel, what he did with ALIENS told as good a story in a different way but without the element of surprise.
