monaca went thru physical abuse too. she said that haiji and her father thought they were the reason why she ended up in a wheelchair, implying that they beat her so badly that it was actually plausible for her to be paralyzed.
From the way Monaca says "gentle", it's obvious that she intetionally says that word to trigger and control Kotoko. She uses both her and the other children's situation to manipulate people
They were just tricked into believing stories like this by either Junko or Monaca. Anyone who tricks kids into believing this shit is completely and utterly insane and vile, especially they aren't even human to begin with, both mentally and in actuality.
My headcanon is that CPS wouldn't have responded nor help them because of Kotoko's and Nagisa's parents. Kotoko's parents, especially the mom, most likely have ties with the rich and powerful because of the "mother and daughter set" while Nagisa's parents are teachers in Hope's Peak so they might've convinced the school to not care much about the Warriors of Hope. I guess the school bought it with an additional reason that it might interfere with their ultimate talents. Remember that this is my headcanon and might not be what actually happened in the canon universe.
@@picklepie5127 Junko did deserve better in a sense. Her analytic abilities made her life hell and she could never truly love someone. If she did love someone her body would just tell her to kill them, like she did to her boyfriend and sister

what I appreciate is how they portray her trauma. they don't show it in a comedic over-the-top way. they play it completely straight. even the upskirt shots (which are supposed to make you uncomfortable by the way) actually connect to her traumatic backstory. if you think the developers adding that part was unnecessary, that's fine. I honestly appreciate the whole Psychology of the Danganronpa franchise. Kotoko is actually one of the most interesting girls: "Sometimes cute girls go through terrible things"

Can we give a props to the voice actor? Made it so clear and sounded so realistic- while I played I wanted to just calm her down and make her feel better.
Greetings mortals, don’t care if this video was made a long time ago. The “know-it-all” in me wants to explain Kotoko’s trauma, in more detail. Just in case mortals don’t understand it that well. (!!S3xu4l 4bus3!!): Kotoko was a famous child actor. Although she never wanted to be a child who stood out, she didn’t want any attention, she still was an actor. However, at the studio, she was sexually harassed. People saying that they’d be “g3ntl3” with her. Not only that, but because her father was cheating on her mother, neglecting his job, it was hard for them to earn money and look after the family. Even with kotoko’s career, they didn’t get enough money. So they had to sell Kotoko off, and make her the money maker. Her mother would sell herself off too. Although there was no specific reason for that, the only reason that makes sense was that they’d make a mother & daughter set to earn more than what they’d make just by selling Kotoko. Because of all the crap she went though, she developed a trigger against the word “g3ntl3”. And when such word used, she has a breakdown, get’s all flitchy and starts scratching at her body. The only way to help her when in such a state, is to hurt her. In conclusion, her parents are bitches. The people at the studio are bitches. Monaca’s a bitch. All bitches. That is all, sorry for wasting your time, good-day.
When I was younger I never understood this scene because I just bumped into it while looking for cursed memes. I literally thought she was being treated that way JUST by her father but to know it was M o r e than that? God-
Thanks, I didn't quite fully understand the context. I still wonder why that word is a trigger for her, like if they weren't actually 'g*ntl*' and lied, or if them being so made her feel worse.
@@happyfrigginrainbowcookies A trigger can be anything that that reminds you of that trauma. As each time it was going to happen they said g*ntl* that word now reminds her of what she has been through. I once saw a thing where a girl's trigger was clowns. In her room, there was a picture of a clown that hung on her wall and that is what she saw when her dad did things to her. As u can see clowns had nothing to do with what was actually being done it just reminded her of her trauma and thus is a trigger
I just want to say that I absolutely DESPISE how Monica has these little music icons and she’s happily swaying her head while Kotoko is having a full blown panic attack and a breakdown, like that’s messed up
Another thing is that she said that her mom would cry whenever Kotoko complained, so Kotoko had to hold all of the pain in so her mom wouldn't cry. At the time, she didn't know the difference between right and wrong. She thought that, so long as her mom was happy, she could go through all of this. However, her coping mechanism brought her downfall too. The more she held it in, the more it piled on, the less she could actually deal, which is why she so willingly agreed to kill herself with the other members of the "Warriors of Hope." The wall she built to shield herself was made of glass and, the more pressure it took, the weaker and weaker it got until it exploded and cut her apart. She thought "Big Sis" Junko actually repaired the wall, but she dug the glass in deeper and twisted her so easily. All of the kids did _horrible_ things and none should be outright forgiven, but...seriously, their parents screwed them up royal it's no wonder they were so lost. Junko had always been able to manipulate people and damaged kids were so easy to do that. I believe all of their backgrounds are horrible, but I think Kotoko's was the absolute worse. She was sold into sex slavery by her mother with her mother being a prostitute with her. Her mom wanted Kotoko to "shine" in acting so much that she was willing to destroy her.
Kawaii Gurl yeah! masaru hinted at an alcoholic dad and being beaten, kotoko’s was the most apparent, other than nagisa’s, jataro was bullied (so emotional), and nagisa was mentally abused with unrealistic standards
It honestly hurts knowing how children are treated like this. Even more so knowing that these poor children went through such awful things, even if they are fictional.
You can't really be "gentle" with a girl at that age, since her body isn't even ready yet. No amounts of being "gentle" could make it not hurt. No wonder she gets triggered by that word.
@• MissPØker • you think you're evil? Everytime i see someone make a g-word joke i laugh. Edit: not important but I changed my mind about this- if you still wanna reply to this then you can.
I agree completely, but I think being locked up is too merciful. People like that don't even deserve to be called "parents." Parents should never do this kind of shit to their own children.
As someone who's triggers have been used against them, it's as terrible as this child or not. This is why people avoid UDG, unlike other Danganronpa games UDG characthers and their backstories are much more realistic. And as of I'm writing it contuines to occur.
I hate how monaca was so calm and says like “oopsie!” , while kotoko is crying and begging to not hear that word again. messed up bro, messed up when the fuck did i make this comment
That's because Monaca was trying to manipulate Kotoko, she used the word on purpose. You can tell from the tone of her voice. Kotoko was disagreeing with her so Monaca used her trauma to bring her back under control
“Being adorbs isn't always a good thing. Cute girls go through terrible things... And if you're adorable too, you have to protect yourself. On your own. If you can't, you have to take whatever they give you. It's a shitty rule, but I didn't make it. Adults did.” Thats kinda sad ngl as its also true in the real world..
Did anyone else actually get upset or nervous for the kid when they had their breakdown? The voice acting makes it feel like you’re listening to someone panic in real life but you can’t do anything.
as a person with an extremely bad history of childhood sexual abuse this isn't the sort of thing to joke about. these breakdowns are accurate and trigger words are a very big thing with people like me. this does feel very well executed. of course everybody is different but this is similar to the way that people around kotoko's age usually deal with this type of thing
I’m sorry but what if they were playing super smash bro’s and she kept losing But they started a live stream to raise money for cancer and every time she played she got more angry because she lost so her dad told her they will be “gentle” meaning playing the game easier on her
As someone who went through her trauma in a different way. Its disgusting seeing people making jokes about her trigger as my trigger is being touch without being warned and i STILL live with my abuser, it really makes my blood boil. No i cant GET OVER IT. This shit is permanent and it doesn't go away like a little cut its a mental or physical scar that is huge and evan if it this healed its still there but its also if away comforting( in my opinion) showing how you survived , how you hung on for soo long how you kept going through it.. (( im sorry if my English is bad and if you need to vent its ok im all ears but if you want do it in privet i can work something out)))
I feel that Kotoko and Nagisa are the most sympathetic of the warriors. That's not saying Masaru and Jataro aren't. For them, the school was a break from issues unless the theory of Jataro being autistic is true. Kotoko and Nagisa's talents were integral to their issues. Nagisa's parents were teachers at the school and the staff didn't bat an eyelid to his abuse. Kotoko, on the other hand, was forced to act by her mother due to an obsession with youth and making Kotoko the family breadwinner. In order to earn more, she was forced to be used by the higher ups in companies (sometimes even with her mother) all because her dad was awful. I'm glad she became good.
Masaru's talent did come into play. It's like that old saying, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And Masaru was plenty strong. Plus, when your running around the city stealing food and beer, I'm sure that builds up a good cardio.
"being adorbs isn't always a good thing. Cute girls go through terrible things...and if your adorable too,you have to protect yourself. On your own. If you can't, you have to take whatever they give you." GOD-DAMN THAT HIT ME LIKE A BUS
Seeing Kotoko cry and break down triggers an emotional response in me, even if this is just a game, it angers me and makes me want to cry, because not just her but none of those kids deserved that kind of treatment.
See, this is what triggered means. The word 'Gentle' gives Kotoko flashbacks about her horrible past. It literally traumitizes her. Being triggered doesn't mean getting mad at something you don't like or don't agree with.
people do, but then lots of people say it mockingly which makes people think it's not a real thing. What do you propose people who actually have trauma do if they can't express what their trigger words are because they''ll just be mocked?
"gentle" is kotokos trigger word. that is what a trigger is. it makes her completely break down and remember her traumatic past. we have an actual, real instance of this happening in the game, but for some reason the fandom still thinks its ok to mock triggers and think they mean offended. what happened to kotoko is what many people deal with in real life and it is absolutely not okay to make fun of
*if you’ll be gentle, please kill me* That line actually broke me. It’s so sad seeing how people wouldn’t mind death in situations like this and as much as it’s understandable it’s sucks. Worse when you realize that people feel that way sometimes too and may even hurt themselves. I honestly feel really bad for Kotoko she didn’t deserve to go through what she did. NO CHILD deserves to go through this. Plus to add in, during that “hand machine” scene where Komaru was being s3xually harassed by the hands, Kotoko kept telling herself that it’s not bad that she’s doing it since she’s a child. She’s literally doubting herself but in reality she felt guilty cause she knew how it felt being touched without consent. And after she lost to Komaru during the robot battle, as all the hands were coming towards her, you could see how scared she was and how it somewhat triggered her.I’m very glad she was saved by Genocider Jack/Jill.
I relate to this on a deep level. I love the representation of disability and mental disorders in the warriors of hope. From what ive seen so far they've managed to properly represent paralysis, ptsd, and schizophrenia
Even if kotoko is fictional, its still absolutely disgusting to make jokes about the word g3ntl3. There are people who go through S3xu@l har@ssm3nt and S3xu@l ab/s3 irl. How do you think you would feel if you went through that and people made jokes about it? 😐
The best way I've heard to describe triggers is 'emotional allergies'. Just because some are worse than others doesn't mean they aren't bad. My peanut allergy will kill me, but my seafood allergy won't. That doesn't mean I'm not allergic to seafood or that I should go out of my way to eat seafood. Also, you shouldn't go out of your way to set them off and make someone else sick. That's the equivalent of giving me peanut butter cookies without telling me about the peanut butter. Only the person who has it should set it off, and only in a closely controlled environment for their own safety and comfort, like how you can expose yourself to small doses of an allergen under doctor supervision to try and build up a tolerance. But even that won't work for some triggers or allergens. Just don't be an ass about it.
Absolutely. Lots of people up in here are complaining about the use of "trigger" for anything less than the strongest PTSD response, which is about as far from being trauma-friendly as you can get. This is a really useful framework for helping explain things to people, thank you for this.
@@yeahbutwhy8788 11037 and seesaw is completely different though. 11037 is literally just leon upside down and doesn’t even have to have anything to do with murder. and i haven’t played v3 yet but from what i know seesaw is just the way someone was killed(not saying who for spoilers). this fandom is all about dark jokes as long as they aren’t too far. gentle jokes and korekiyos sister jokes are too far

This here is an example of what trigger words really are. Something that brings back trauma so strongly it can cause panic attacks or spiraling. If something is a discomfort or annoyance to you, say a character, DO NOT LIST IT AS A TRIGGER. I’m tired of discord servers where every sentence has three words blocked out because people have trigger lists longer than fucking homestuck. Anyway, if something doesn’t cause spiraling or panic attacks, please do not list it as a trigger. It’s disrespectful to those who have genuine triggers.
I think I am triggerd a bit by s*lfharm. I sometimes think of it, and pictures of it make me uncomftable. After them I need support. Is that triggering or am I stupid?

Tbh normally I hate English dubs. But this one is pretty good. It's awesome except Servant's voice (idk why but I just don't like his voice. He's a good actor and all it just doesn't fit with me).
Alright, even if it's "just a word" or it's a fictional character. That isn't an excuse to make jokes about her trauma. REAL people go through this EVERYDAY. You wouldn't laugh at them or make fun of them fi they had a trigger word? Sure, the world is a bad place but that isn't an excuse to disregard others feelings. Like I have my trigger. They aren't words, but it's still a trigger. Truama jokes just aren't funny, so let's not use g3ntl3 when talking about Kotoko. That doesn't mean you cant say g3ntl3 in real life, but don't use it to harm others, especially if it triggers them. Never thought I'd have to explain basic human decency.
See people? THIS is what a real trigger is like. It's not just something that makes you uncomfortable, or annoys you, it isn't just a nuisance. It is a serious issue that affects a person deeply, stemming back to a previous trauma in their lives. They are suffering. Not the fake people who throw the word trigger at every little thing that bugs them, it's much deeper than that. I wish people wouldn't throw the word trigger at everything that they don't like, they treat it like it's just a free card to throw whenever necessary.
if makes anyone feel better I don't feel bad for Monaca because she tried to kill my favorite characters with a smile on her face she's such a manipulative little demon.😠

People complain whenever rape is used in media, unless it's based off a true story. They view it as an attempt to make something look more dark and edgy. Honestly, I view it as more bringing awareness to something. Especially this girls reactions. You may call them over dramatic but it's probably how many children would act. When you grow-up with the people who mean the world to you hurting you, how are you supposed to view the world? How do you even grasp that how you're living is wrong? Yeah... Maybe I'm looking too much into this.
I think it depends on how it's used. Some series do it to do that.I can name several series(which I won't because I don't want to deal with their fanboys.) that did that for that reason and overlooked the psychological affects that occur afterward. This is honestly one best ways I've seen it used. I've seen it typically used for a few bad reasons A-shock value B-get you to hate a character as much as possible C-try to garner sympathy for a character that had either lost all sympathy or had none D-kickstart a forced romance E-all of the above. In these situations it's handled in a unrealistic way and neglects how it really affects people. I personally like this game because it's handled in a way that unfortunately is realistic...and while kotoko was made more sympathetic due to this it was made clear before why they became this way. I could've been all too easy to pull the,"they had a bad past excuse their actions" card it they didn't. (Continued)
+HanaTheScythe But they didn't. They made sure their actions they do as a result of it all are treated as wrong. Another trap that the media tends to do when a character experiences a traumatic past is that if they do anything evil as a result of it it's excused because of said past. (Two characters in danganronpa 2 kid a fell into this) But they don't here.I appreciate this.
A not-so-gentle reminder that these people also made Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Yeah. That was Spike Chunsoft. The same people who made the Killing School Life made a game about being a Pokémon and making friends.
Wait wait wait wait, hold the motherfucking phone, they did?! Well... I guess that explains the characters in PMD having different facial sprites, that’s definitely a Spike Chunsoft thing! Still though, no Pokémon game is too kid friendly, and PMD is no exception, in fact, it’s a bit more... intense... compared to other Pokémon games, so I’m not too surprised
I think that was a messed up way of helping her. At the end of the video, she kept screaming that she would rather them hurt her instead of being gentle. So I think Monaca was doing just that for her
the makers of danganronpa have such dark and disturbing topics but they handle it quite well, especially this, and they allow characters to be relatable, like mentally ill (mikan, toko), chronic illnesses (nagito), trauma (kotoko), mistakes (mondo), jealousy (mondo, junko), etc. it’s amazing. i love the creators.
honestly it's a miracle that they were able to handle these things so well and did it without offending anyone. i've seen so many stories where these kinds of things were executed in the literal worst way possible.

I utterly respect people like you for having the ability to live on after such scaring events. Even though I don’t relate to her at all, I still just favor Kotoko as a character.

For anyone that makes "triggered" jokes, this is what an actual trigger is. Something that can absolutely wreck your life and your view on things. Anything that reminds you of that traumatic event can send you into a panic and/or anxiety attack. Something that can ruin something simple in life for you. And when you hear it or are reminded of it, it'll send you into a state of pure panic. It's not something that should've been made into some idiotic internet joke when it's actually serious, and it's not something you should take lightly.

monaca went thru physical abuse too. she said that haiji and her father thought they were the reason why she ended up in a wheelchair, implying that they beat her so badly that it was actually plausible for her to be paralyzed.
From the way Monaca says "gentle", it's obvious that she intetionally says that word to trigger and control Kotoko. She uses both her and the other children's situation to manipulate people
She changes her tone and pauses once she says it.

After finding out everyone's backstory all I could think was simply: Does Child Protective Services not exist in this universe.
Umer Mahmood the world is literally ending in this game omG
Inky Dinky Yeah but I meant before the kids met Junko. The world would've at least been stable enough for that.
Well... Because Child Protective Services I had to escape from a country I really loved and return to my filthy homeland. Thanks fucking state.
Why does the crowd always start cheering when these kids are reliving their trauma? It's like "YEAH WOOHOO TRAUMA FOR THE WIN!"

Greetings mortals, don’t care if this video was made a long time ago. The “know-it-all” in me wants to explain Kotoko’s trauma, in more detail. Just in case mortals don’t understand it that well.
(!!S3xu4l 4bus3!!):
Kotoko was a famous child actor.
Tysm I didn’t know

Sad part is, how this happens all over. If you have seen some documents about child sex sellers... Not easy to watch.

Even if kotoko is fictional, its still absolutely disgusting to make jokes about the word g3ntl3. There are people who go through S3xu@l har@ssm3nt and S3xu@l ab/s3 irl. How do you think you would feel if you went through that and people made jokes about it? 😐
Especially making g3ntl3 jokes on the topic of kotoko
For real. People have gone through stuff like this in real life, even if danganronpa is fictional. It's disgusting to make jokes about it.
Well its a game, people make the jokes about the game not some person that has gotten through this so i dont see why yall so angry about this

Underrated comment
A sleepy insomniac VERY* underrated comment
Absolutely. Lots of people up in here are complaining about the use of "trigger" for anything less than the strongest PTSD response, which is about as far from being trauma-friendly as you can get. This is a really useful framework for helping explain things to people, thank you for this.
This is a very good way to talk about triggers since it's easy to understand.

Being adorbs is not always a good thing. Cute girls go through terrible things.
As an overly s3xu4l1s3d girl, just for being pretty, I felt that.
Is that triggering or am I stupid?
fr like people don't like a ship because it comes in the way of their uwu saiouma and then put it as a trigger like stop it you're invalidating triggers
You don't get to decide what other people's triggers are.
@@faroshscale PLZZZ not u being triggered by this lmfao. if ur annoyed by this it applies to you. stop invalidating triggers and making something ur trigger that gets in the way of ur fujoshi ship 💀💀
Triggers can make you uncomfortable. Your reaction to trauma doesn’t invalidate your trauma.
I commend the developers for showing this topic, although dark, it happens in the world and you can see why these kids are fucked up. Excellently portrayed! The English Dub is top notch as usual.
Yeah and they did realistically

English Dub is incredible, props to the actors
+Adam Stockley I always considered Danganronpa the perfect example of Dub done right.
***** Could you give me some reasons as to why they are horrible? They match very well, and their emphasis on certain words is on point.
I disagree wholeheartly, every voice actor was great. I hate the Japanese voice actors, especially Monokuma. English >>>>> Japanese by a long shot!
Adam Stockley I'd say they are pretty even, to me. If I had to pick a favorite, it'd be the English dub for sure.
THANK U I COMPLETELY AGREE
I'm 14 and this is deep...
You know you're horrid when you can make the word "gentle" a trigger word
I wish people wouldn't throw the word trigger at everything that they don't like, they treat it like it's just a free card to throw whenever necessary.

my sister is like that when I'm obviously uncomfortable with what she's saying
People complain whenever rape is used in media, unless it's based off a true story. They view it as an attempt to make something look more dark and edgy. Honestly, I view it as more bringing awareness to something. Especially this girls reactions. You may call them over dramatic but it's probably how many children would act. When you grow-up with the people who mean the world to you hurting you, how are you supposed to view the world? How do you even grasp that how you're living is wrong?
Yeah... Maybe I'm looking too much into this.
I think it depends on how it's used.
Some series do it to do that.I can name several series(which I won't because I don't want to deal with their fanboys.)
that did that for that reason and overlooked the psychological affects that occur afterward.
This is honestly one best ways I've seen it used.
I've seen it typically used for a few bad reasons
A-shock value
B-get you to hate a character as much as possible
C-try to garner sympathy for a character that had either lost all sympathy or had none
D-kickstart a forced romance
E-all of the above.
(Continued)
+HanaTheScythe
But they didn't.
They made sure their actions they do as a result of it all are treated as wrong.
Another trap that the media tends to do when a character experiences a traumatic past is that if they do anything evil as a result of it it's excused because of said past.
(Two characters in danganronpa 2 kid a fell into this)
But they don't here.I appreciate this.
+HanaTheScythe Which two characters are you referring to?
Fox King Hiyoko Saionji and Mahiru Koizumi.
Their pasts excused their actions rather than explained.

A not-so-gentle reminder that these people also made Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

Wait wait wait wait, hold the motherfucking phone, they did?! Well... I guess that explains the characters in PMD having different facial sprites, that’s definitely a Spike Chunsoft thing! Still though, no Pokémon game is too kid friendly, and PMD is no exception, in fact, it’s a bit more... intense... compared to other Pokémon games, so I’m not too surprised
this is why I love Danganronpa the most. its overall story and plot knows absolutely no boundaries. :D

The only way to help her when in such a state, is to hurt her.
the makers of danganronpa have such dark and disturbing topics but they handle it quite well, especially this, and they allow characters to be relatable, like mentally ill (mikan, toko), chronic illnesses (nagito), trauma (kotoko), mistakes (mondo), jealousy (mondo, junko), etc. it’s amazing. i love the creators.
honestly it's a miracle that they were able to handle these things so well and did it without offending anyone. i've seen so many stories where these kinds of things were executed in the literal worst way possible.
