      I like what they have done with Merchants, especially how getting trade rights actually boosts their income and that they are tied to their home settlement instead of just their faction's capital and you don't even need to buy them to get them since they will come over to your faction so long as you control their home city. However I still think they can do more with them because while they can be worthwhile with trade rights, this is still Rome Total War and the AI usually will just go to war with you all the time which will make it hard to even get trade rights especially late in the game and therefore will mean Merchants will still barely make any money. Not to mention how long it takes for Merchants to still gain up points to make more money and I can understand why people who did not care for Merchants would still not be convinced to use them.
      In my opinion I think they should up the amount of wealth Merchants make in general even without Trade rights or they need to add a bonus to certain settlements which can start off making Merchants with more points to them. Like instead of your usual Merchant starting off with 1 or two points at best, a settlement like Carthage would have it's Merchants start off with 4 at least. This would be good for both historical and gameplay reasons because Carthage was known for being a naval trade power and having a Merchant bonus would give it an advantage in making money compared to most factions if they have more of these "Merchant bonus" settlements in Carthage, the two islands they have in the western Mediterranean, and Cordoba. While there would be other settlements that also have a bonus on Merchants Carthage could start off with more to show off it's superior trade economy. What do you think?

    • @strategydux
      @strategydux  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rorschach1985ify yes some historical settlents can give bonus traits if recruited from there. And yea AI is fu and when you send merchant and they declear war he makes no money while before he did 2k. Advice for this is dont send merchant to you neighboursseend to provinces and Factions you dont border as they aill not declear war.

    Great video..was helpful. I have been playing for awhile now and one bug I can't find an answer about is why my merchants seem to lose their experience during my recent game.
    I am playing Britain on hard level, campaign mode. Initially I shipped a bunch of them to Egyptian lands who I have trade rights with..no problem and they held their experience and made me great coin. This first group died out however and when I replaced them with another group, they all came off the boat with 0 experience, then when I walked a guy across the top of Africa to join them, he went from 3 experience down to 0 when I crossed the border into Egyptian lands. I should be making much better coin than I am. They still make me decent cash but with all them being 0 exp. it's making it harder to deal with Rome at the moment.
    I was wondering if anyone else has this issue or seen this issue discussed and can give me some guidance or send me in the right direction. I can't find anything on this.

    • @strategydux
      @strategydux  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm weird. Maybe after some turns when they are not trading they start losing their stats. And/or maybe if they do not make direct connection to the port while trading it is not counted and they do not gaind exp?

    • @eatonbeaver6972
      @eatonbeaver6972 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@strategydux Initially I thought it was due to the long boat trip as being why they lost all their experience but that was not the case. Eventually I took out Numidia and started walking some merchants to Egypt and after 1 turn in their lands they lost all experience. This only happened with Egypt, who I was allies with and had a fine relationship. If I walked a guy further east to Persia they held their exp. Persia however was not good for coin no matter the level.
      If I took a merchant into any Egyptian land that was level 4 experience and let's say made me $1000...within 1 turn they dropped to zero and made me anywhere from $500 to $700 I guess depending on the distance from their home.
      I had to live with this as I made not as much cash with any other faction.
      Also I found that I could gain experience in their lands and hold it. for instance if I bought out a 0 level rebel merchant, my merchant got level 1 exp. and held it. however gaining exp. this way is not easy as they are 0 when attempting it LOL
      I conquered the game with this going on anyway. I had to exterminate populations after taking cities to keep the funds up in order not to go broke. I now wonder if this is just something the game does to make it harder for you?
      Anyway, cheers and thanx for responding.

    • @strategydux
      @strategydux  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eatonbeaver6972 hmm it is probably a bug I don't get the logic of it at all. I never had any issue with that... Maybe the competition made him worse? Other merchant in the region killing his work. :/

    • @eatonbeaver6972
      @eatonbeaver6972 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@strategydux As far as I could tell it was not due to other merchants. Earlier in the game when I took first load over by boat, there were other merchants and they held exp.
      I never try to monopolize a certain resource as I found that will get Egypt to try and buy out my merchants. I just place them in a region and they make coin that way. Frankly, they make the same coin that way than they would monopolizing something. Initially, it's too far away from Britannia to risk losing any.
      I might understand why other merchants would effect the cash my merchants made, but I can't understand why they would lose all their experience, and in 1 turn.
      This "bug" only effected exp. (which as a result, affected cash) In the course of the game I took out some cities etc. and picked up some merchants from them that were level 8 or 9. They lost all exp. as well once in an Egyptian help territory.
      If your merchant's home city or the city they are trading in gets plague etc. then their cash drops to zero, but they don't lose experience. I can't think of any viable reason they should lose experience to be honest. Seemed to me like the game was "reeling" me in so to speak. As in, trying to make it harder for me.
      I have found over the years that due to insufficient AI these types of games kind of cheat behind the scenes to make it more of a challenge for you. Like Civilization games, you micromanage every aspect of your cities to maximize output and then check an AI's cities and it's crap compared to yours and yet they sometimes out produce you etc. LOL
      Anyway, cheers again. Sorry for the read. Happy gaming :D

      I wouldn’t say it’s worthless. One merchant from its home region is adding 250 ducats to the regions income. 3 level 2 merchants from one region will grant 750 ducats. Now if you took the time to do that for two regions that’s 1500 ducats. Assuming their all level two. For the price of a merchant that’s a pretty good profit
