As a backward American, I never knew Christmas ghost stories were a thing until I heard about it on youtube. I think it's a great tradition to have. Growing up I can remember us kids asking mama if she knew any ghost stories. She only knew one and it was kind of generic. Our custom was that after every big holiday meal we'd get the cardboard box full of old family photos out and mama would tell us about all the people in the photos. Almost everyone has gone now and I don't have the heart to take the box out of the closet. It just hurts too much.
Agree! Maybe nobody else will do this with me but I'm doing ghost stories at the holiday from here out. It feels natural. In a way, my family does this because when we have a rare reunion at the holidays, at some point after dinner when sitting around, the conversation will turn to supernatural things or places we've run into going back many years. We're from Mississippi/ Louisiana. After all, the song "its the most wonderful time of the year " says there'll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmases long long ago"
@@raggedyantoinette Can I suggest that if you can get the older folks to talk record their stories. Even if they're not spooky stories record them. My daddy was the best storyteller I ever knew and I've kicked myself many times for not recording his stories. So much family history gets lost to time and failing memories. Merry, merry and happy, happy for whatever holidays you celebrate!
Ha, this one really takes me back! My late father gave public readings of Dickens stories, often including this one, and when he had an audience of schoolkids, he'd get them to play the part of the goblins shrieking out 'Gabriel Grubb!' which was very popular. Many thanks, Tony, and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless us, every one!
Charles Dickens + ghost story= chilling bliss! Said ghost story + Tony Walker narration = heaven!! One of the best Christmas gifts this year, thank you!
Just discovered your audio books... feeling like the sexton in the story. I usually listen to true crime ... and I have listened to many hours! But I feel renewed after listening to some of your posts ( and all this without the intervention of some nasty goblins). Thank you, and have a good Christmas....greetings from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
The Karloff reading of this story is online. It's great and I love Boris K, but I don't agree that it's better than this version. Mr. Walker has something special.
I love your channel and the pics you use as your thumbnails. They seem so appropriate for the ghostly stories you grace us followers with, in only the wonderful way you can. Thank you so much for your hard work. It is much appreciated. 😊
Happy Holidays to you, Sheila, the girls and of course Ruby and Jasper. Thank you so much for all the wonderful stories this past year. I look forward to more in 2024 💜
Merry Christmas Tony! Thanks for sharing your talents with us. Your readings are a fantastic respite from the crazy world we find ourselves in. I am grateful for this channel.
An interesting tale. I wonder if it was written before or after A Christmas Carol as the message it conveys is similar. Thank you, Tony, for another year of interesting stories. I look forward to more in 2024.
It was written before, a story in “Pickwick Papers” (1836), Dickens’ first book. But this story was likely an inspiration for “A Christmas Carol,”published only a few days before Christmas in 1843.
Tony, Merry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year to you and yours. Ive really enjoyed your ghost stories and detective stories. Have been rehabbing my right knee after replacing, infection and 9 total surgeries to correct. I listen while in rehab and stationary.
@@ClassicGhost Thank you very much!! I contracted MRSA and 2 Gram Staph infection 1 month into PT. The infection devoured muscles, cartilage and tissue severely. Almost lost my leg from knee down.
Thank you and happiest of holidays to you and your family! A great story with perfect narration! And! Your "blathering" at the end of your stories complete the narration so well. It would be missed. My 3 cats who also listen with me send our greetings
I only got round to this on the 29th - a very happy Christmas and New Year Tony, thanks for your content. Definite parallels between Gabriel Grubb and Scrooge methinks! 🐦⬛
Fantastic story and narration! Great for the time of year around Christmas. This story has many great lessons and a few of the same ones as in A Christmas Carol. Thank you so much for sharing this story with us. I love Dickens but never heard of this one. I am so glad I listened to it! The graphic is awesome!
I’m a bit late for Christmas but I would love this no matter when I listened. Another masterpiece by my favorite reader. Thank you so much. Best wishes for you in the new year and many more wonderful stories.
Oh no... I'm always the tardy one. But this morning is my morning off! The oven gloves are off and I'm reading all the comments too. This feels like end of year school break, and you are our Mr Chips Tony. Hear you next term Sir. ...oh and that story was very Zen. Genuine, heart felt thanks Tony.
Thank you ! This has always been a favorite of mine 🎄 Your reading are amazing, Couldn’t and wouldn’t want anyone else reading this. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and and a Happy New Year 🎉
Merry Christmas to you Tony!!! Great story ❤ I love Dickens, his writings bring Victorian English life to reality, like you can reach out and touch it. 📚 ❤ 📚 ❤
I would listen more, but I've had cancer and luckily been given a few more years (fingers crossed). I work very hard at not being depressed in order to utilize my time better. Meanwhile, the opening "theme song" is extremely toxic to the point that I can't listen to it and I try to skip ahead but YT won't let me finesse the timeline and I always miss the first 2 minutes then I get frustrated fiddling with it and leave. But I'm sure death seems cool to the rest of you, and it's soooo deep to be "real" about it, so I'm sure it's just me.
@electrictofumuffins6384 I so sorry to read this. What a terrible situation for you. I have been with many cancer sufferers over the past few years in my family ( blood relations and married in), and lost and losing loved ones. My thoughts go out to you. I can understand your frustration with many sad reminders in your precious time. (My brother has stage four melanoma, he is not old). I won't try to lecture you on my thoughts on mortality, only wish for you some times of genuine comfort, days of contentment, and a miracle cure. May you always have strength when you need it most. 💖 from April, (a weird Tasmanian lady.)
I wish the tradition of telling ghost stories during the Christmas season would make a comeback. Happy Holidays to you and yours, Tony!
Tony has certainly done his bit. Be assured you are not alone in wishing for a revival of this tradition. Happy Holidays to you as well.
We're here, aren't we?

Btw, talking to oneself doesn't have to be sad or weird. I have some of my best conversations with myself 💜
Some people believe we are talking to our Guides on the other side!
Me too!
Psychologists found out, it is quiet healthy indeed!!! Well, to a certain amount, I mean..😅
Talking to myself is fine until I lose an argument.
You sre happy and joyous! Thanks for sharing your happiness snd joy, along with all of your other gifts!
Thank you for providing relief and escape in a rough year Tony. I hope the holidays are happy for you and all you love.
Thank you Angela. I hope 2024 shines for you.
Sorry to hear of a rough year. "Up" is always possible so long as we go "on!"
Fantastical tale! This needs to be made into a short film!
Chanukah season 🕎🥂 has ended, but I'm a sucker for a creepy English Xmas story - perfect timing! 🥰 🎉
Glad you're here. Thank you.

Happy Holidays to you and yours, Tony. Always pleasant to listen to you reading a story. Dickens is a treat.
Thanks Maggie. Happy holidays to you.
This is the second best reading I've ever heard of this story. The best reading was by Boris Karloff.
That's pretty good company to be included with/in, Tony!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you & yours Tony 🎄
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Good surname you have there.
always thought Charles Dickens when he wrote this was inspired to write an xmas carol . feel it was an early version of story
I think so too, there is a definite theme
You're right. It's a proto Scrooge story
I only got round to this on the 29th - a very happy Christmas and New Year Tony, thanks for your content. Definite parallels between Gabriel Grubb and Scrooge methinks! 🐦⬛
