    Thank you Jeff! you saved me. I'm working on a quilt for a gift and called local dealer to get assistance and they told me 3 week wait so they could check or clean sensor. But they were sure I needed a new sensor. I cleaned them myself as you instructed and it's working great. I wasn't told I could turn off sensor as long as I wasn't embroidering. I am sad that they knew it was a gift I needed finished and was told they would look at it but I had to pay expedited charges. I love sewing and don't have a fixed income, you are truly wonderful.

    I work at a shop in Waukesha, Wisconsin - Sew Much More. We sell Bernina machines. Every time we deliver a machine, we give them a quick lesson, so that they can start sewing as soon as soon they get home and get their machines unpacked. I have begun to tell them about your "Bernina Jeff" videos and how insightful and helpful they are! Thank you for so freely sharing your knowledge. It is greatly appreciated!

      Thanks, some of my customers live far away so this reference works for both of us. I also do this to record my knowledge so others can sew better. My paybacks are orders for oil and such and the appreciation. TH-cam even pays me....

    The error message also goes off if you leave the bobbin door open because it can’t read the bobbin monitor. Thank you so much Jeff for making these great videos! Sometimes it’s a simple solution, so check out Jeff’s videos before you rush to your Bernina maintenance person.

    Thank you soooo much for this video, Jeff! The bobbin monitor came loose yesterday after a cleaning out behind the bobbin case holder. I didn’t even know what it was before.
    I didn’t notice anything until I couldn’t get my bobbin door to close completely. I had just sewn a little the day before after having picked up my machine from being in for a COA. I was so afraid I had to have it go back in to be fixed. Now I will carefully try to put it back in with husband’s help.
    I also had no idea the bobbin winder could be adjusted by the tech.
    I learn so much from your wonderful videos and I love your oils, bobbin and knob protectors for my machines. I have a 1230, 435, and a 770. Been sewing only on Bernina’s since 1978!
    Wish you were closer! We live in Illinois not far from St. Louis.

    Thanks Jeff. You called me all the way in Severance where I live and we discussed all these topics. It was nice to be able to watch this video and get a refresher. I eventually had to buy 25 more bobbins. Upon examining my older bobbins I discovered that 90% of them were scratched or scraped off. So now everything is running fine with the shiny new mirrors. I wish your store was closer; I might check out some of those used Berninas.

    You won't see this since this video is 2 years old - but it's still a great resource! My bobbin in my 765 ran out and it had be a minute since I wound one and tried to do on my own. It came out cone shaped but now I know why. I tried to use it because I'll bet the last one was that way too. So I checked my manual and did like it showed and the bobbins came out even worse! I wound FOUR bad bobbins!! Then I watched this video and notice you didn't put the thread holder thingy on the end of the spool and you didn't wind the thread through that little loopy thing. So I tried it and when it started going cone shaped again I guided the thread so it filled the other end. PLUS I didn't know about cleaning the little black thing. So I cleaned that, all around the bobbin case and under the plate. It wasn't too bad because I'd cleaned it recently and even took the hook out and cleaned that then almost couldn't get it back in! But now it's sewing like a dream again and I didn't have to take her in to the spa and be without her for weeks. Thanks so much for these videos. They teach me new things and also refresh my memory on some things!

    If you hear a grinding noise after cleaning and oiling try tuning off the thread sensors and take out the bobbin case and metal hook and try running with no thread at all. Test with the hand wheel pulled off it just clips on and it will make a noise sometimes. Try taking off the needle plate and run it. If this does not cure it go to your dealer, a needle part or something is in a bad place.

He accidentally broke the spindle off my 1130 (blue and white) when he was fixing it. I noticed it even though he didn't tell me. He said he would try to find me a part to fix it. Another great video, thank you 💕 as a new Bernina owner your video’s are invaluable and very much appreciated. May I ask you whether the presser foot should be left up or down when leaving it. I was always under the impression that it should be down, but when I unplugged and put the cover on I realised the foot was up, should I have manually put it down before switching it off?..thanks x

    • @berninajeff
      @berninajeff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On modern machines I do not feel it is important to store the machine with the foot down. There is a spring that is compressed when the foot is up but in 30 years I have never had to replace that spring on any brand of machine. It does hold the foot on better so it can’t get lost!

  • @jackvanrixel7881
    @jackvanrixel7881 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ridiculous question. I have a new 790 plus. When winding the bobbin, yes I am sure I am doing this correctly, but it just slips from bobbin, to the winder. I think the little metal “tabby” thing that holds it from slipping, is stuck inside. I put scotch tape to create friction to make the bobbin wind. My dealer is two hours each way from me. Ack! Is there a way to get it out, or is tape my only option?

    • @berninajeff
      @berninajeff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen this happen a few times. If you look closely at the bobbin winder post there is a small slit with a wire like spring that protrudes out of the slot just a little bit. If that wire spring gets out of place it will not hold the bobbin from spinning. Inside the hole of the bobbin is a small indentation that the wire needs to fit into, make sure that is clear. I use the tip of an Exacto knife to try to get that spring wire to stick out a little more. Bernina does not make just that part, the entire bobbin winder assembly has to be replaced about $80 plus labor not usually covered under warranty by Bernina. Continue to use tape but make sure that the hole is clear before you put it into the bobbin case if tape is in the hole it can damage your bobbin case.

      Hi Bridget, my 790P was making noise the other night,and,of course it's late Friday night. Watched one of these videos so I thought must be a thread stuck in there. The bobbin icon had a yellow circle going around it. Looked in the manual, nothing. Next day tookbobbin case all apart again, nothing. Then I thought wonder if Jeff's store was still open since they are on Mountain time. Then I discovered the problem. I always put an empty bobbin on the bobbin winder. Somehow it got turned on and was spinning and also making the grinding noise. Don't know if this helps you. I feel kind of stupid for not noticing it.lol. But I learned alot from his videos esp about an easier way to oil it and put the bobbin case back in. Happy sewing!

    I appreciate this video but I find the maintenance for my machine is ridiculous. I had a Kenmore for 30 years and it was so easy. Not much to do but this machine is getting on my nerves.
