The power divider is a differential between both axles. When you hit the switch the power divider locks it. So two wheels has to slip before you cannot get going instead of just one. When the power divider switch is off, both axles get power, but thru an open differential.
I live in Wisconsin and it's embarrassing how many times schools/businesses shut down for snow this winter. When it was cold and snowy in the past, we just called it winter, put on a hat and did our thing.
Someone might have pointed this out but the differentials in trucks have a limited-slip rear ends, the power divider switch turns it into positive track rear ends. Front and rear axels always pull. Know before you go, my dad always said.
Sir Dan !!! As you know too well'''THAT"S TRUCKING """ Make plans only to have them changed at YOUR expense !!! Good to know that ""Mercer" Tries to get things done right !!!! Enjoy the snow & KEEP IT SAFE !!!
Wis Dells! I live not all that far away. If it were summer the town would be full, and you’d not find a hotel room for 30 minutes in any direction. It’s the water park capital of the world.
Wow,your in a beautiful place up there! I live in south Carolina now but I grew up not far from the Dell's. Crazy as it sounds - I love driving in the snow! Very peaceful and quite!
My gf and I would make a big thermos of coffee and just cruise around in my 4x4. We called it going for a sleigh ride. You're right, very peaceful and quiet.
Sold my last Pete about 3 years ago, after 41 years in the biz. Man, I do miss that squeak in the clutch pedal! Ya I know that sound real well, it a Peterbilt thang! The older ones that is, can't say what the new ones do...safe travels driver!
You drive well in the snow and gave great advice about keeping distances. I use to drive in the stuff every day during the winter. Snow doesn't stop our trucks. They only stop when there is poor visibility, or if the Ministry of Transportation shuts down the highways.
Dan, you were about 50 miles south of Wausau, where we live. It’s been a weird winter with substantial snow south of us and north of us , with little here (we’ve had a lot of rain over the past two months, though). The Dells is pretty in summer too, but very touristy, with many Illinois families recreating. The Dells itself is where the Wisconsin River cuts through a gap in the granite substrate, creating a deep canyon (a dells). Boat and duck boat tours ply the waters as do private boats....it’s not the pristine natural attraction that it was 50 years ago. We own a time share there if you ever want to take a summer vacation with Theresa...you could haul to the area, stay a few days and haul a load from Wisconsin. I enjoy following your adventures. Keep trucking, but take time to enjoy life.
Yeah I don't like it the snow.. but slow and distance is the name of the game.. went down a 8% grade with 72k on the back In Cumberland Mountain going towards Baltimore Maryland and I have as of right now got 2 years in.. them I was a green horn.. but you can't afford to panic.. just slow and now hard braking and go.. I am learning and will for ever be learning.. if Don't learn anything anymore time get out fast!... much love and God speed and be safe out there drivers..
First time watching your channel. I have been driving over forty years in the North East.. Something about driving in the snow, it's dangerous, slippery, if you get behind a plow between the snow flakes coming at you and the blinking lights from the plow it will put you in a trance and wear you out a bit. No doubt it is going to require more energy from a driver in every aspect. But something beautiful about the snow once you get her rolling nice slow safe and steady gives you the feeling of serenity. When you get to your destination kick back enjoying a hot bowl of soup or coffee great feeling of accomplishment. Nice video this is the correct way to approve every trip nice and easy. Stay safe out there Dan and fellow Drivers. God Bless always in my Prayers.
I'd watch driving with that inter axle interlock on it will have a tendency to cause over steer,, it's ok to use it for starting up but not running down the road ,, just a thought from a snow goose
Well Good Morning Dan Hope you can find something to do and wait till it clears and you'll be doing a favorite thing rollen..... Looks pretty take care This is called every day fun for us around the Great Lakes.
I drive on road like this for 6 to 7 months out of a year. I don’t consider my self as the best winter driver. Just seasoned one Knock on wood. Have not been I the ditch yet either out of 25 years of driving. Your right take your time and plan ahead. Take care stay safe.
Hope you get tv, gets boring even with tv, but staying now is the best thing, happy you are getting some pay for sitting, looks a lot like Vermont, thanks for the video. Pull toy here.
Hi thanks for visiting Oshkosh... You probably stayed at the Planeview truck stop.. I used to work there.. but rumor has it we're having a CA built here.. good luck on your ventures..
Power divider does what in the name under normal driving it divides power between both differentials but when you spin out or loose traction when not locked power goes to far rear dif and its a open dif so the wheel of least resistance turns when LOCKED both difs are locked but unless you have a Detroit locker the power is still sent to wheel of least resistance on both
I love when it snows when im out on the road, then again im Canadian and dont matter how much snow we get the loads keep comeing :), Most companys these days are like that, if you dont think it's safe dont drive, company im with always says you dont think its safe dont move the truck take a day off, should try driveing up here in British Columbia in winter time, what you were driveing thro would be a cake walk
i remember driving in upstate NY with chains, doing 35 mph, in a snow storm, was making my way West towards the TA truck stop, east of Buffalo. i was heavy @35k. so i was good on traction.
You can take advantage of having automatic slack adjusters on your breaks. Whenever you get loaded, unloaded, or you connect to a new trailer, go ahead and adjust your breaks. Hold the brake down for five seconds then release for five seconds. Repeat this about four or five times, build your air back up, and you'll be ready to go. This way your brakes aren't so fidgety when you're empty or anything like that.
Thanks for all that you do to safely bring the needed goods and supplies to town. It's good to know that there are safe truckers out there like you. I have been waiting at the intersections at a time or two where I notice a big semi way too close for comfort from my back bumper.

2 winters I drove line haul, never refused a load and never got over my fear/respect of driving in the snow/ice. Life is ironic....I left driving to work for my state driving a plow. I've seen 2 level 3 snow events and never been half as scared as when I was driving.
That day we received 10.5 inch where I live just south of Milwaukee!! And on the next Monday we supposed to get another 8 inch!! Be safe out there.. and the dells are very busy during the summer time and people come from all over!!!
