Good lord, watching this after hearing the Smartless episode makes this amazing, not only the uncomfortable shifting you realize instantly, but that sheer look of horror at 0:26 when Colbert says "You got something to answer for!"
Garbage interview snipe question about an interview Tambor had in the past admitting he had yelled at Walters on set (which he has profusely apologized for) and trying to push it into the current outrage culture... and failing to grasp what everyone tried to say on how everyone has had their moment, that acting is not like a normal job and even he's yelled at Walters. Walters obviously has held a grudge on it as it probably embarrassed her and she said she forgives him for it... but this is glossed over and the readers are so clueless as to what any of what they said even means (but by god they know, because they just do!) since none of them have ever acted and been on a set, or stage production. But I will say this, I have never been in a production where someone didn't snap at some point at a fellow actor (or a director at an actor) or crew member etc... because of any number of reasons (repeatedly missing their mark, lines, breaking, not being off script/book, constant technical mistakes... the list goes on... but eventually someone is all, "FUCKING GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!" after the 20th+ time of doing the same thing over). I also guarantee Walters has yelled/snapped/insulted someone.. but Tambor is the focus because of the allegations from "Transparent" (which OF COURSE were pulled into this). Tambor brought up the incident in an interview himself... nobody else did... and he apologized for it publicly and privately (he's admitted to having a temper and being direct/lacking tact). And then months later, this interview is trying to hurt him for it and the cast (though Walters was obviously still holding that grudge) stood up for him and tried to explain how these things happen and that without context you don't know why someone yelled or snapped on a set. Now they're all bad for "trying to belittle the situation" etc etc and other nonsense. Now everyone is picking it up (yay clickbait!) and misinterpreting the entire thing... and now Jason has had to apologize.
Bateman is such a humble guy. He’s just a normal guy, not arrogant like typical Hollywood actors. Oh, and I’m Canadian, and I thought the Canadian driver joke was hilarious !
@eddie because "gay" is an insult that doesn't just include to a certain behavior-stereotype group but all homosexuals. It is meant to portray gay as something negative in general. if they mean the flamboyant type of gay they could at least say flaming or campy or whatever but its a difference if you say "he acts like a damsel in distress" or "he acts like a woman". one is a tolerable mockery and the other should not be one.
This is the same suit Jason wore in November 2014 at Jimmy Kimmel. Its really nice to see that he has the same suit for 5 years. I like people who take good care of their clothes.
Sad to see Jason jump on the anti-Trump bandwagon just like every other rich Hollywood liberal. Blows my mind how they don't see that their antics are exactly what are going to get him re-elected. #maga2020
New Message uh-oh... this is the first time where you made me go no no no... I heard the clip, I read the article and I read his apology... I don't think he was thrown under the bus at all.. I think it was honestly taken out of context, but you have your opinion and I have mine.. You are still hilarious and I always look forward to reading your comments!
Jason: Some people think we are jumping on the Trump bandwagon and bashing him Stephen: They are jumping on your's How did Bateman not say Jason: Well... you gotta expect a few hop-ons...
I really like that in a comment in which you state that someone isn't smart you have written "He isn't smart OF funny." and this even after editing your comment, i assume having found another error... enjoy your false feeling of superiority Ms. O'Sullivan. (Note: as someone who is dyslexic, I rarely comment on other peoples mistakes like this, but if you are going to say "This person isn't smart" you might want to check these things...)
I was at the taping of yesterday's show but Bateman's segment must have been pre-taped the day before or something so we never got to see him... So much heartbreak in the audience! :-)
Oh if it was pre taped, that explains why none of the NY TIMES article stuff was mentioned. Yeah, Jason's just giving his normal banter unaware that it's gonna look real bad later. I do think his later apology was sincere.
C J Jessica Walter was talking about how Jeffrey Tambor had verbally abused her on the set of AD, and she broke down crying, while he was in the interview with her. Then the guys on the show tried to downplay it as "bad moments" and "everyone makes mistakes". It was not a good look for them, and Alia Shakwat was the only one to really back Jessica. I don't think it came from actual malice, but sort of a panicked gut response to the interview going so far off the rails and undermining the image they had as a cast of a "family". Definitely a poor choice and should probably be addressed sooner rather than later.
Its Amazing how people goes after somebody who actually hasn't done anything wrong, There is no allegation or report about Jason Bateman behaving badly with anybody, but because he said 1 sentence to try and excuse Tambor's behavior, he is same as him now?
I like Bateman; he seems so comfortable and secure that he's not bothered by a slightly uncomfortable interview, and his cheeky irreverence is pretty hard-edged at times, yet he still seems like a sweetheart underneath.
It's absolutely amazing to me how everyone has jumped straight into attacking Jason based on what was said, yes he failed to defend a co-star and what he said was poorly worded, however in times of such a mess of a situation it's hard to grasp and provide a response that's adequate and helps to maintain everyone's dignity and respect within the situation. He tried, he apologized profusely and everyone still attacks the guy as he continues to banter just as Arnett and Bateman always have an people get offended. What a time to be alive.
zeksta but now you're offended by people disliking Jason Bateman's actions? It's an odd measure for a sign of the times. I don't think there's an 'attack' as much as people are just pointing out how crummy he's being.
remyling Well, first up I'm not offended, I understand the other side as well and how what he's said has been taken. My point simply was that he's an individual who's made a mistake and is still getting a fair bit of flack regardless of the apology, I don't think it's necessary and neither do I condone such behaviour as Tambor has been accused of but I believe that it's hard to formulate a response without offending people and he's simply made that mistake and taken it on the chin.
Genevieve I was being facetious. His comments were definitely sexist. Seems like he would be more cognizant especially with the issues of his NY Times interview...
Genevieve No!!! They do it all the time to each other, to tease the nature of their relationship - Arnett did the same on his Conan interview that showed a picture of them holding hands. They've been friends for 10+ years and it's a running joke between them. I don't think Jason realized how bad that would look without that context.
If he's not perfection I don't know is... I love me some Justin Bateman! I've been in love with him since I first saw him on Silver Spoons as Derek! He's so hilarious and gracious to everyone he meets!
I can't believe he allowed bateman to refer to will arnett as 'she', implying he overreacted to the accident as a woman might, when his wife made a perfect example of not overreacting right next to him.
maybe there is more of a backstory to that than a 10 minute interview can explain. after all they are obviously friends. I'm not saying I think it is funny or defending him, but sometimes you come up with nicknames for your friends that stick and that's just what you call them.
Yes there is back story. Will and Jason tease each other routinely, and I remember Will calling Jason "she" before in interviews. I think Jason just meant to reference that, not to actually insult.
From the title, I had this image of Bateman flying across the sky as Trump shook his hand across the country, with the usual 'starting a lawnmower' tug.
Good lord, watching this after hearing the Smartless episode makes this amazing, not only the uncomfortable shifting you realize instantly, but that sheer look of horror at 0:26 when Colbert says "You got something to answer for!"

I noticed Jason squirming right off the bat and i thought 'man that must be one uncomfortable chair'... little did I know
I love Bateman, but that whole bit about calling Arnett a lady as an insult was cringey
