      It was fun wasnt it? This was just polishing and you were very close already. Hopefully the lessons learned on those skills will spill over into other skills. But your knee bend is pretty excellent with everything you do. Just new skills the slight “up” happens and it’s so slight we don’t catch it.       Hahahah I agree. My mission is to get more people skating because it's such a great, fun and effective form of all round exercise as you say.       Bless you, thanks. I've been at this teaching game 21 years and still love it for that feeling of excitement and joy I feel when they finally get a skill for the first time. I enjoy all the smaller 'wins' along the way, each exercise in a. progression is a mini hurdle and they all add up to success. That's why I teach (and teach people to teach skating), because it's sooo fun and rewarding. I so appreciate that amongst the many struggles of running a business.

      Well that wasn't step by step. That was just a. few polishing points for someone who already had the slide. If you don't have the soul slide then start with half lemons exercise (watch the video again of the group learning the soul slide while Richard did his thing). Half lemons moving the weight more and more to one skate from 60/40% to 80/20 and eventually 90/10% with very "curvy" lemoning leg getting a good internal rotation on the half lemon. While other skate is straight line, slight outside edge. That exercise progression will get you to soul sliding.

    Wonderful technique, I’ll try it this way next time I skate! I still can’t make a proper magic slide and more and more I understand that this is an essential skill for city skating not just a fancy trick that you can slide on your wheels

      Yes it's a really useful stopping and slowing method. You see it a lot with the downhill skaters as it also works very well around corners, but you do need a certain about of internal hip flexibility (which I don't with my hip). But really worth training. The others in the class were doing the preparatory exercises for Soul Slide which are half lemons, aiming for 95/5% weight distribution..... not easy. Hoe that helps.

      Yes get your Sul Slide super fluent and comfy and sliding for several metres before progressing onto the Magic.

      @@SkatefreshVideos unfortunately I have that older skater flexibility issue, not having the sliding front foot at 90 degrees to the back foot means when your back foot switches you just spin :-(
      The looking to the side & dropping when the back foot switches is a great tip, love soul sliding to check speed when bombing about empty skate parks. Keep up the good work your a legend !

    How do you like the Endless frames compared to the NNskates frames?

      I really like them both. The NNs have 2mm rise on the back wheel and Endless have 1mm so that's the main difference (but it's subtle. The rocker of both these frames makes it easier to create the curves you need for god wizard skating. The Endless have the ability to put 3 wheels flat for distance and street skating which is useful but I usually just use them with 4x90s. Whichever I have on I really like. I just change from one to the other every few months. No preference, really. Compared to 3x110 flat which I was riding before, they are both sooooo mnaouverable.

    Hey there! 🎥 First of all, thanks for the great video! 👍 I really enjoyed it. However, I've noticed that when I try to do the magic slide, it automatically becomes a power slide. 😕 Can you please help me out and let me know what the problem might be

      Are you entering the Magic slide from the Soul slide as indicated in this video? If yes, then you are creating the powerslide by 'flipping' the skate that will become the trailing leg in the magic slide (so not the leading leg) too far around from forwards to backwards, so you're flipping it 180 degrees so it then rolls backwards and that's the powerslide. You need instead to flip it by just 90 degrees so it rolls from forwards to sideways. The difficulty is that the magic slide is so much harder than the powerslide that the body will want to choose that easier option. 2 skates sliding is 1000x more challenging than just 1 skate sliding, 1 skate rolling. So you need to build up to this very slowly by doing this flipping movement right at the end of the soul slide when you've almost stopped. The body will be more likely to accept this if there isn't a load of speed. Once you have a tiny "baby slide" of a few kms you can then slowly work at increasing the speed very very very slowly.
      Hope this makes sense.

    What type of insurance this guy has? Learning new tricks with no protection, except helmet, is kind a Russian roulette. One day I fell back, on elbow... If I has no elbow protection, my elbow will shatter into pieces, so scary.

      That’s a risk he is willing to take. We all have different opinions about risk. You have very good reasons to favour full protection. I also advocate use of pads.

      I actually do agree. At one stage I didn’t even wear a helmet and thought nothing of it, now I’m very aware of it when I see other skaters without one. Perhaps one day I’ll see sense and pad up more.

      It’s important to note that I had a fairly decent grasp of the Soul slide here, which Asha helped me improve. But when I first began messing around with the Magic (a while ago!), I really struggled, and it wasn’t until I watched Asha’s Soul slide video, where she explains that the Soul is the entry into the Magic, that I began to drill it. I’d defo start with the Soul first. 👍

      I don’t think anyone shoukd aim for a new slide in one session. It takes time to get the weight distribution up to 90% on the non sliding leg and each slide has different specific exercises to train that before you slide. Then sliding is a lot less risky and success more probable. Richard already had a soul slide (I just helped him get rid of the pronation and make it safer). The magic he’d already need trying and drilling but probably repeating the same mistake (the small coming up I identified). He fixed that and it slid! I always say “a little technique can go a long way”.

      @@MrRomanoLeChauve Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. 90% means your non sliding leg (support leg) should bear 90% of your body weight leaving 10% for the sliding leg. That is a requirement for many slides such as the power slide, the soul slide, the acid slide, the pornstar slide, the royal slide, etc... even the T-stop. Easier said that done I know but it's absolutely essential. Obviously certain surfaces are not suitable, wheel hardness has something to do as well; but if you don't slide is most of the time due to the lack of proper weight distribution. To get to that 90/10 you can practice scooter, half lemons, and toe-wheel, always keeping a center edge for the support skate. Besides, you really need quite a bit of strength in that support leg. You can build strength with those exercises bit by bit, but some squats every other day will help.

    Yo I teach tennis for like a decade and a half. I had a hip surgery with about 1 week off. Covid hit and all anyone could play was tennis. HOW IN THE HELL are you managing to teach with a broken hip. Thats CRAZY

    Hi Asha I see when I skate or when I stride my feet go in
    My ankles bend so my feet go in
    How do I fix that because I think it makes me loose balance and hurt my feet more

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Ankles rocking in or out is totally wrong. It's more noticeable with big wheels. To avoid that you need skates with good ankle support, to lace them up properly and to adjust their buckles firmly. Even if you do that sometimes the ankles bend either because the skates have soft boots, or they are too worn out, or they are very bad quality. You also need to control this from your head, with concentration and proper technique keeping the wheels perpendicular to the floor, because you can rock ankles in or out even with hard boot skates. So it's not only a skate problem. Please check this video th-cam.com/video/jL3WEi0p5TA/w-d-xo.html to see an exercise to get used to the proper position. If you have medical feet issues you should wear orthotics on and off skates.

    I love your videos. They helped me realize everything I was doing wrong. Still, though, I make dumb mistakes. I ordered a brake so I can skate narrow trails the way I did 30 years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't wait for my brakes, and although you warned your viewers in your videos about three-wheel speed and braking, I lost confidence on a trail fell backwards and had a bad radial fracture. Up to that point I was progressing well. Sad because I was having the time of my life. I won't give up!

      Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. I'm sorry for your accident, so is Asha. She's always worried about skaters not being able to stop, and that's why most of her videos in TH-cam are about stopping methods. Too many accidents with people without brake and without any other way to stop. There are skaters who don't even have the intention to slow down and they put everyone around in danger, not only themselves. Besides, city authorities take note about this and ban our sport because of reckless skaters.       It's a good way to go about learning the Magic slide, to have the Soul slide first well versed. Sometimes inflexibility can prevent the Soul slide from happening but flexibility comes with repeated exposure to the positions.... Richard did amazingly well and was almost there on his own. I do a good polishing job.

    those right skate wheels are going to get ground down pretty quickly. how, and how often should wheels be rotated

      Hi. This is Sergio from Skatefresh Team. How often you rotate wheels depends on how much wear they get, and that depends on how often you skate and where. Besides, soft wheels wear away faster than hard ones. In general, when you notice the wheel inside edge is more worn out than the outside edge a rotation is needed. If you look up on the Internet you will find some diagrams on how to interchange wheels, from one skate to the other, etc. but in time you will see those diagrams are not a rule because how wheels wear away relies quite a bit on YOUR particular way to skate.

    question: Can u do that with any roller skates or just these ? and does it work on a flat street?

      That's a really good question...... I don't know if I've ever seen anyone do a magic slide on quad skates? Mmmmm I'm going to ask on my Instagram channel and see if anyone has seen this before. Just because I haven't doesn't mean it doesn't exist. However, sliding 8 flat roller skate wheels is wayyyyyy more difficult than sliding tilted, rounded inline wheels (and the Magic slide is not one of the easier slides), so in terms of difficulty this is way, way up there (which explains why not many can do it). I'll get back to you here when I have some feedback to that questions on IG.....

      I have normal roller skates and the weels just don't wanna slide. Do I have to be in a really flat area to do that?

      Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Not the hip bone itself, she's got a permanent cartilage injury in the area. It happened while she was filming her online courses years ago and she was very tired after many hours in front of the camera. So yeah, it was while she was skating. Lesson learned: you should not skate if you are extremelly tired because you are prone to have an accident.

      Sergio put it very well. I’m extremely fortunate to still be skating and teaching and managing my injury so I can do that. I was filming when injured so have the fall on camera. I'm dealing with a herniated disc myself so I'm careful not to do slides and stuff and just want to get basic stuff down. Also not interested in a surgery. Trying to build up back, glutes and core maybe things will get better for me....
