Unfortunately I can't watch this until the days practically over but like a true pro I'm issuing a prepared statement 😂
In Contact is a concept album, although thankfully each song stands on its own independently.
Dream the Dead starts us with a painter who is a struggling to quit alcoholic. Biggest problem is, he just doesn't make the same quality art sober. A couple tracks in we meet our second artist, a musician caught in a very precarious love affair. Then we meet the poet. Savvy but paranoid, he sees the writing on the wall and is trying to warn us of the corruption around us. Finally, the sculpture in the grand finale of Graves. Despite the fact his hands take something as hard as stone and shapes it into beautiful art, he's about to become a father and stepping up to sculpt a human life scares the shit out of him.
Phew. Specifically Songs for No One is the musician. It's his job to entertain the people who hosts him, one in particular is a person of much power, and they're in that love affair I had mentioned.
As we fall into softest soil
Is this one rose enough for you?
    And who would tend
    To our garden
    That no one sees
    For no one
See how the sun over calm ocean
Sings, "this is who I am, my rose"
Safe from prying eyes, this is who we are
Okay okay enough, it's not quite as grand as the story to the poet and the pendulum but dammit it sure means a ton to me :D
Slow violence would have been a fantastic intro song, it's super catchy and accessible, but I really wanted you to hit something with depth as I'm not too certain the band will ever be on the channel again!
Thank you so much Chase, two month wait totally paid off haha, but such is the price of being a singular voice among masses :P We stay resilient!

My favorite band! They are masters at being melodic and prog at the same time. Got to see them live and meet them at Progpower USA last year. They put on a great live show! Listen to the masterpiece Graves or anything from the new album. Or for similar type prog band I would do Leprous. Glad to see someone enjoys Prog like I do, not enough prog lovers in the US.

Awesome reaction, I really liked how you picked out little details! You should definitely listen to them more! In Contact is a genius album (I recommend: Dream the Dead, The Hands are the Hardest, Graves) and they just came out with a new one Rise Radiant (Salt, Valkyrie, Autumn+The Ascent)!

paul gilbert always talks about guitarists just trying to shred without having the feeling behind it and how it makes so much of a difference to put emotion first in a solo, i've always seen c-horse's guitarist (sam vallen btw) as the best example of a guitarist who does both perfectly, even when he's shredding it's a masterclass of emotive note selection, i really cant say enough good things about the band. if anyone wants proof listen to "alone in the world" as well as every other song they've made

I have no idea if you're familiar with the game League of Legends, but Riot Games, the producer of the game, basically came up with the band "Pentakill", a band made up of a few of their game's characters to promote new cosmetics for said characters. I know they hired Jørn Lande to voice the lead singer character, and the band has 2 released albums as of today. I find that bands that go the 'progressive' path tend to go so deep down the rabbit hole of 'musical trickery' that the songs start to become more of a 'musical masturbation' scene: the song is just a collection of 'see how many tricks are in my cool bag of tricks' rather than a coherent song. This is not the kind of music I will listen to a lot, but I can say I thoroughly enjoy the melody and the way those 'musical tricks' are in this case in support of the song, rather than all there is to hear... Thumbs up, and thanks for pointing out all those things us mere mortals don't tend to pick up on, Chase!
