    Roger "SYD" Barrett, one of the founders of the band in 1965 noticed the names of two American blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council mentioned on an album by Blind Boy Fuller.
    You will find that Pink Floyd delivers pretty deep lyrics the themes of which span their whole discography. This song addresses "The Machine" of the music industry. "Wish You Were Here" was about the absence of Syd Barrett who exited the band early in 1968. Yes, their is a thematic connection between the two songs. The guitar work is David Gilmour, guitar virtuoso extraordinaire. He replaced Syd Barrett in the band. And yes he is better than Jimmy Page. The Floyd is a complete package their music ties into the themes of the song. Their light show on live performances is unparalleled and of course the lyrics tie it all up.

      Wait, wait wait wait you’re telling me that David Gilmour is better than Jimmy Paige??? I’m gonna have to put that out there in a question on my community tab. We’re going to do a poll and see what the people have.

    • @ianfortier6796
      @ianfortier6796 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Before the poll goes up, David Gilmour is 100% better than Jimmy Page. Especially live. Gilmour almost never misses a note while Page is messy in the live setting.

    As great a song as this is, it doesn't even crack their top 20 for me. That's how good their catalogue is. Prepare for a fantastic journey, my friend.

    The perfect irony in this song… it’s about a clueless record company executive trying to cash in on the band. The “By the way, which one’s Pink?” line speaks to that, that the guy knows nothing about the band members. And they had someone who wasn’t even in the band sing on it, just perfect. It worked well too because the singer Roy Harper actually sounds like a cross between Pink Floyd’s two primary singers David and Roger.

    • @manchieffilms
      @manchieffilms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So the guy singing in this song is not in the band

    • @g0fvt
      @g0fvt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@manchieffilms yes, Roy Harper sang those lines on the album, he does a great job (IMHO) at sounding both cynical and clueless. If you listen again you will perhaps hear how the record company executive cares nothing for the band or the music, it is all about the money. "We're so happy we can barely count"

    Wonderful reaction! You can't go wrong with Pink Floyd.
    To answer your question, they chose the name Pink Floyd in 1965, using the names of two old blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Tribute to the genre that influenced them as youngsters.
    Funny that you mention that you wish the singing was louder. They used a rare guest vocalist on this one, not a member of PF. None of them could sing in the key needed.
    This song is from the album Wish You Were Here 1975. The whole album is absolute fire. Try Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts I-V from the same album. You will love it. Do the studio version. After you fall in love with that song, you will be happy to know there is a second part, from the same album, Shine on You Crazy Diamond Parts VI-IX. Both are absolute masterpieces. Peace!

      OK, I’m gonna have to put this in my notepad so I can remember everything when I’m gonna go on this Pink Floyd Journey question should I keep doing random or should I do their first album and work my way up?

      @Djdirtydiamond Many of their albums are concept albums. They tell a story or share a common theme throughout. The songs flow seamlessly from one to the next. They are meant to be listened to as a whole from beginning to end. If you go that route, I would recommend The Dark Side of The Moon 1973. Best album ever made. Not joking.

    Floyds poke at the industry. Listen to it as much as most of us and you'll hear the lyrics and message. I listen to Pink Floyd for all aspects. Emotion enhancers. This OS how the Pro's do it.

    The voice isn't very clear because it sounds like you got a bad copy of this song. The entire audio quality just sound off to me. Even on the original vinyl recording on a tunrtable, the quality sounded better.

    I think the audio for the vocals on the track you used isn’t quite right. The original is more crisp and out front.

    This an alternative cut. I think it was released on the Immersion box of the Wish You Were Here album. That might be why the mix seems a little off.
    First time coming across your channel, just subscribed.
    I'd recommend you do Comfortably Numb next. But do the studio version first. Everyone and their brother will tell you to do the PULSE version, which you 1000% should, but with Pink Floyd it's best to do studio versions first so you can immerse yourself in the music and the studio mastery. Then check out the live versions because they are unbelievable live. Musically, vocally, and the stage set up/light show. They even have things flying over head, blowing up on stage, visuals popping out of towers, etc.

      Thank you so much for the sub but I keep saying pulse. I don’t know what that means over that is.

    • @ianfortier6796
      @ianfortier6796 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Djdirtydiamond PULSE is a live album from their 1994 tour and is arguably the greatest live album/video of all time. Comfortably Numb is what many consider Pink Floyd's best, and it's originally on the studio album The Wall, which is also a full-blown story told through music. A "rock opera". The guitar solos are in the conversation as the best ever, and the PULSE version is considered one of, if not the best, live solo of all time. But definitely do the studio version before the PULSE version. The two versions have different vibes and tempos, so I would recommend you experience both and see which you like best.

    As this is the 'Alternative Mix', with a couple of unnecesary extra bars, soundeffects and awful reverb on the guitar, I suggest you listen to the album version as well. The singer, Roy Harper did a guest appearring. He was recording for one of his own albums at the same studio at the time. Roger and David each did attempt to sing the lyrics to this track, but weren't very happy with the results. So when Roy walked in, he was asked to do it. He did a fantastic job. And his sound really fits.
    The version you are listening to here, is a bad copy of its original (Alternative Mix) added to their 2011 immersion experience box release of the album. Indeed the sound is way out of balance.
    When listening to the original albumtrack, you'll experience a very, very well balanced mix.

    I’m going to binge on your channel but if you haven’t reacted to Tool “The Pot” you’re going to get your mind blown. Or Black Sabbath “War Pigs” also has a nasty riff.
    Listening from a Nuclear Facility in Eastern WA!
