Really well refereed in trying circumstances. By the way, I recommended your channel to my ref last Sunday - one of the big guns at the Southern Sunday Football League.
Really well controlled and agree 3 reds the 4th was soft but at the time you gave what you saw - I’ve started refereeing after a few years out and haven’t had a game yet so looking forward to getting back out and your videos have helped thank you very much !
Thank you Luke. Yeah 4th one was very soft, but it did calm the game down massively with those 4 off of the pitch. Good stuff. Welcome back and enjoy it out there
I know you've improved a lot since this as I've just seen your recent videos. You did brilliantly to sort that mass brawl out but I'd have abandoned it myself and sent a report in. I had to abandon an Under 13s game for a mass brawl up here in NW too. BTW,there is no such think as obstruction any more, which I think you likely know by now. Definite push on the blue defender for Reds second goal though.
Holy moly bud that was some shenanigans to deal with. Very well presented your decisions and great control of a very difficult situation. Football needs to learn a bit of respect especially to people like yourself as without your contribution there would be no game. Refreshing to see such an honest self critique of your performance and I've just subscribed and look forward to tuning in from now on.
This is great stuff. My question is during the brawl - what mental notes are you making to yourself to remember who’s done what?? What do you do to make sure you remember the detail in those few seconds?
I was literally just talking to myself the whole time and saying the numbers of the main culprits over and over. I was trying to remember faces as well
It’s almost impossible to get it all, but as long as you get the main culprits and anyone running from distance to needlessly get involved, they’re always easy ones to spot.
@@robbetts712 agreed. I had a mentor/assignor use 'first, worst, last' as an acronym for giving cards: who starts it, who aggravates the confrontation (by running in, any red card offences, etc) and who starts a secondary confrontation after everything settles down ('last').
2nd goal hands were in the back 100% but well handled with the fight. you made all the right calls and saw things I'd have to watch back 3 times to see
I think the FA should make a new rule about players/staff running on to the pitch all getting instant reds. It's hard enough dealing with 22 players fighting, when you get a dozen people charging in from the flanks it turns in to chaos, so they should all get a card and the resulting ban.
Yeah but eventually it may sink in. When I first worked on the pitch with the TV crews I was shocked at how much abuse and aggression is directed at the officials. I'm a big fan of how rugby deals with it, and while football would be reeling for the first few months if anyone who swore at the ref was sent off - as more than half the team would be booked in the first half - it may eventually lead to a bit more of a controlled game. However that's none of my business as I'm strictly an observer, and well above the pay grade and responsibility of any single ref - the powers that be need to address it across the whole country, if not continent, as it would never ever work for single refs in single matches. I'm hugely impressed at how you managed to keep track of what was going on in the melee, I think a lot of people would have given up following the punches and just abandoned the match, it's good that you got the culprits off and managed to get a good game out of it.
@elliottsw I 100% agree with you. Initially the FA thought sin bins would help but there’s still the same amount of abuse in the game, if not more. There’s respect in rugby which is taught from a young age. In football it’s completely different and referees get all the blame
I've just started refereeing and have all on trying to focus on a normal game, it's seriously impressive how you identified the main culprits out of those throwing handbags. Shameful behaviour but you handled it superbly.
Shoulder to shoulder for the reds second goal, good legitimate goal. The blues first goal ruled of for offside, from here he looked on, when it's frozen his foot looks on the line along with the other reds, but you were in a much better position than me behind a screen lol.
Thought you reffed well, really well done on getting the 4 reds as alot going on and easy to miss. Having no club AR's really puts the pressure on you for those OS calls but all looked pretty spot on, do not understand why clubs turn down have club AR's.
Thank you. This time I just stood back and was able to see most of what was going on. They just think that they will cheat so would rather put more pressure on the refs and moan when it’s not right
I say i’d rather not do the offsides and some clubs always insist, and I just want the game to go ahead, but it’s frustrating when there close like that. Thank you John
Looking back definitely 3 red cards, 4th one was very soft, probably a yellow. After that though, both teams were warned and to be fair they got on with it
See how the 4th red could be soft but a good decision imo to even up the reds especially when there’s an opportunity to do it, definitely calmed it down
I think for me the 2nd NLR goal could have gone either way on that decision, I don't think its shoulder to shoulder but the defender went down incredibly easy. maybe if he stands his ground a bit more then it would be a more obvious foul. If I were a HGT supporter I'd be annoyed but not outraged, as a neutral it looks like one of those decisions that could go either way depending on the day IMO. you dealt with the fight really well I think.
