I think Truls playing in China boosted him to the next level, as seen in Paris Olympics results. Similar story as with Timo Boll and Dima who also played in China back in the days. It’s a must if you want to become world number one imo. You learn so many things that aren’t taught here in Europe. The experience is incredibly valuable.

Why was he being coached by his own Swedish coach? Truls competing inside China and he should get training and coaching from the Chinese team. That is how he can pick up new tricks from the Chinese system.

When Truls competes in China, he will be defeated by many players but Truls can learn to adapt and adjust to his defeats. In my opinion, that is how a player advances his skills. Waldner did that when he was a teen.
