As a long time podcast viewer, it's surreal to see them talk so extensively about superhero movies. Especially surreal that it was a mostly positive discussion.
Half of Derrick's movie reviews: "Yeah I've been feeling depressed lately, so I checked out this movie. And yeah for some reason I'm just not feeling it, I dunno"
49:10 "Hey Mr. Kingsman, the after credits scene is here. I'm ready to be buggered in the arse."-Garrett "Is that the Golden Circle?"- Derrick No, Derrick that's the brown circle...
I'm more taken back that Garrett doesn't like Iron Man 1, but likes Iron Man 3. Iron Man 3 is easily in my top 3 worst Marvel movies. Shane Black made a shitty Christmas movie where tony stark isn't iron man and ben Kingsley does a bad Osama Bin Laden impression.
well rocco was actually around for when the rami trilogy was actually released, @@souvlaki9951, and he's a guy who rlly pays attention to the marketing of films (as shown by whenever he talks about Da Staer Waers). maybe he still feels a dissidence from how those films were marketed as genuine heartfelt drama, which was always kinda untrue even then
Anaheim as a name comes the nearby Santa Ana river and the German word for home “heim”. There is no official demonym for people from Anaheim, maybe because “Anaheiman” sounds like “Anna’s hymen”. I suggest “Ana-homies”
Subjective means people’s opinion. Also what I said is true so idk what to tell you. People who like Power Rangers can not like Watchmen, it isn’t just one way. That is my opinion but it’s also just true; Rocco is the evidence of that by your own comment.
Whenever someone says they out-and-out dislike Ang Lee's Hulk my first assumption is they haven't watched it since 2003. And Rocco saying he liked Dormammu as sort of a force of nature, I mean - rewatch Hulk, dude!
That Angry Birds movie was surprisingly not terrible, I was like 'lol let's see how fucking bad this is going to be' and then I was like 'that wasn't that bad'
Garrett listed the first Raimi Spider-man as one of the top 3 worst Marvel movies? Man, I can't believe that. Spider-man 2 is still the best superhero movie ever made. I still think 1 holds up really well too. The MCU movies all feel like the same thing repackaged over and over. Raimi's movies are a breath of fresh air to watch.
Black Panther Villain was fucking good BUT he should NOT have been the primary villain of the first movie. The whole arc of Black Panther felt a bit off- the threat of T'Chala being dethroned had no weight to it because we hardly knew who he was as a character yet. Killmonger would have been a fucking AMAZING sequel villain, though. So many Marvel films fall flat in the second film... but imagine they develop Killmonger a bit in the first movie and then he makes his big move in the second and starts to explain his ideology. That would have been a triumph and everything would have built up nicely to the T'Chala Dethroned arc.
feels like garrett is dissing the raimi movies but barely even remembers them. spider-man 2 is my favorite movie ever and the first one is in my top ten easily, although i could see the argument that parts of it don't hold up. i think you guys should go back and rewatch them
No specific order My Top 3 MCU films are: - Infinity War (Biggest and also most successful bringing together of established characters with a focus on a great villain) - Endgame (Good final film for what was set up in the last 11 years) - Ragnarok (First Marvel movie to actually cut loose and just do crazy shit while doing an interesting character plot for Thor) Bottom 3: - Iron Man 2 (lame villains, ridiculous plot development) - Captain Marvel (Very generic, which wouldn't usually be bad but considering how far along we are, that's just really sad. Also did not like her static character development) - Thor 2 (Really really really generic) Top 3 Non-MCU: - Days of Future Past (Great final chapter for the classic X-Men films, not really counting Logan as it's kind of its own universe and thing) - Into the Spider-Verse (Best Spider-Man film ever made, truly understands what Spider-Man is about with amazing and beautiful animation and great humor) - Logan (Great modern-day western, doesn't pull any punches, great send-off for Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, and finally a gory Wolverine movie) Bottom 3: - Amazing Spider-Man 2 (More of a jumbled mess than Spiderman 3, stupid character decisions, lame villains) - Fant4Stic (Mess of a movie, little action, horrible pacing) - Electra (Just as bad as Daredevil and Cat Woman, but not even nearly as entertaining)
Thor 3 bothered me with how it seemed completely allergic to being serious without a dumb joke every 5 minutes Infinity War was good because it was willing to take it's stakes seriously Then Ant Man 2 can't have a serious moment without a dumb joke to break the dramatic tension But it's entirely possible that the audience I'm part of, AKA "people willing to take superhero movies seriously", is a niche market
On Kickass 2, Jim Carrey became very anti-gun violence which is why he regretted doing the film The controversial thing was an (attempted) rape scene where the villain tries to rape Kickass' love interest, but couldn't get a boner and then it turns into a weird comedic scene about his impotence. So people REALLY didn't like how insensitive (and unfunny) the scene was towards the topic of rape, came off very edgelord-like. Oh and after he fails to rape her and the film makes a funny out of it, they beat her within an inch of her life and basically cripple her.
I liked Ironman 2 a lot more than Ironman 3. If you never seen Ironman 3...please don't. At least with Ironman2 they TRIED to do something with whiplash, the only thing that kills me about that movie was that he sides with Justin Hammer...to just...make drones...like fuck off! Get back in that suit and start fucking shit up with your electrical whips! Such a bummer, but the 3rd one I have no memory of how it ends, it was that bad. I just remember a fake out villain who was supposed to be Ironmans biggest villain "Mandarin" but turned out to be a dud, like some maniac behind a camera I dunno so fucking stupid. I honestly have no idea who tony was fighting at the end of the movie on a giant freight ship or something, but he just remote controlled like 50 of his different iron man suits. fucking great, a bunch of suits just flying around. I dunno 3 was so bad, and I don't get why Marvel sucks the big one sometimes at getting the villains right in their movies!
Good manga/anime movies: Jackie Chan’s City Hunter Guyver 2 Lone Wolf & Cub is on criterion Riki Oh Wicked City Golgo 13 Rurouni kenshin Ichi the killer Takeshi miike has done a ton of manga anime movies Battle royale
Personally I'm a huge Edgar Wright fan and found the movie to be him just going over the top and nerdy as possible. Catering to that geeky part of me. I can see the issues people have though.
to be fair @@ultimateblong, edgar wright ruined the source material to help please the dumb gamer weebs. unlike the novels, which is ultimately about a dumb gamer weeb falling in actual love, and actually having to learn about actual human relationships and work hard to throw away toxic masculine white knight bullshit to truely love other people and love himself. its something every young white boy stuck in 4chan needs to read now more then ever
Rocco's opinions on comic book movies are... fucked up? Or maybe not consistent? He likes continuity but describes Iron Man's appearance in Spider-Man Homecoming as "incestuous". Like, Tony Stark is established as his mentor. All these characters know each other, so wtf. I remember when Homecoming came out he criticized it for not telling the origin story as if we needed it told again. Then here he says that Black Panther was nice because they skipped the origin story? I dunno I guess I know what I like but with Rocco that isn't clear at all to me.
As a long time podcast viewer, it's surreal to see them talk so extensively about superhero movies. Especially surreal that it was a mostly positive discussion.
Yeah it had old podcast vibes
Yeah the more comic book movies get popular, they more some of them (i.e. Derrick) feel the need to shit on it
Meg with the "Very Nice" in the background of the Borat convo got me lmao
And you gotta love Garrett's slow realization of the "very nice". I love when that happens.
It was "Very nice"
I liiiike
"We cuss and we have Sex" - Bob Dylan
Rocco should start his singing career with such a beautiful cover

#1 Movie Review Podcast!
I was so happy when Rocco brought back the stranger things bit
garret u like watchmen and sin city but aren’t a fan of the rami spider-man movies. i just want to talk.

One of the best after shows in a long time
1. Mystery Men
2. Batman Returns
3. Mystery Men
3 Comic book movies?
I Kill Giants, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Into the Spider Verse
Rocco, the same guy who unironically watches Power Rangers is bothered by The Watchmen intro? What a complex young man.
The entire crew has a mix of ironic tastes and opinions.
@@Adidaas Don't think there's anything ironic about Rocco with Power Rangers
I mean everything has so many subjective reasons why someone would like it. That’s fine.

Postal is actually amazing and out of all video game movies, it's by far the one that's most like the video game.
tfw the podcast is longer than the aftershow.

agreed. also i don't remember any "kapows" or "bams" in ang lee's hulk
Rocco putting GOTG Vol 2 in his bottom 3 is just wrong. That's like the best one.
Watching the rest of this video, this is just Garrett and Rocco giving out scorching hot takes about comic book movies.
That Angry Birds movie was surprisingly not terrible, I was like 'lol let's see how fucking bad this is going to be' and then I was like 'that wasn't that bad'
Garrett, I see ya -- Darkman fucking RULES.
Derrick needs to update his info on paul dini and batman comics lol

No love for Winter Soldier and Ant Man
Winter Soldier is still literally the best standalone marvel film. Best entry point
Derrick is fucking tired lol
the apparition is still there but you can't see it with flux turned on

I'll agree with Rocco on Killmonger, he's easily the best part of the film and if he sucked, the film would have fallen apart.
I have to say, roccos dylan impersonation was hard to take as a dylan fan! Sounded more like Tom waits XD any internet soldiers who are dylan heads?
Annnnd the times are chaaaaaangin
Dark man must die starring Liam Neeson, hmm...
I was thinking DMC's Dante Must Die difficulty, but that works too

BLACK PANTHER? What a pc answer. It really wasn’t even close to any other marvel movie.

Best Marvel film is either BP, Winter Soldier or Thor 3 and none of those should be controversial tbh
really confused as to why there's no white panther
