  • Howl-O-Fest (whatever that is) was in full swing on this particular Sunday in October, and you'd never know it watching this video. There's some previously released footage here, along with some "new" stuff. Filmed Sunday, October 11, 1998.

    Flight of fears line was more terrifying than the ride it’s to me as a kid. You think you’re almost done but all of sudden you get in that building and there’s nothing but people.

    Thanks for sharing the footage. Also, crazy top guns paint wore off in just 5 years..

    Everything looks the same, yet so different! This was about the first year my family started going on a regular basis. I so badly want to jump into this video and ride the Ghoster Coaster and the Phantom Theater again. I sadly never got to ride the King Cobra. In 2002, I was finally tall enough for it...the first year it was gone.

    I'm living for all this old Kings Island footage.

    This was recoded right about the time I started to lose interest in the whole Paramount-era of the park. Things were very different back then. The following two years were promising, and I visited often, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the park during those pre-Face/Off years. I love the bridge footage at the end. It's strange to know that isn't there anymore. I would love to see the new one from that same angle.

      I enjoyed the theming of the park back then, from the movie tie-ins to Hanna-Barbera and Nickelodeon -- something Cedar Point didn't really have. I sure hope the new rest areas have access to those views of the new bridge. I forgot to check into that last year.

      @@CoasterBob62 I liked some of the theming but the park seemed to concentrate more on that then the operations. That all changed once Cedar Fair took over, I believe.

    Just a couple months before I was born! Can’t believe you’ve been doing this for so long but I’m glad you did.

    1998 was the year before final year of the 20th century. And 1998 was the year before the year they officially announced the Son of Beast roller coaster.

    Didnt king cobra sit where DiamondBack sits today or no? look at a image taken from the eifel tower and i think the spot for king cobra is where DiamondBack sits now i might be wrong

    I wanted to ride king cobra so bad the year I went (1999) but it had one of the highest height requirements in the park and I was just a hair too small! I did get to ride Vortex, Racer (backwards), Top Gun, and Face off! The beast was out of order all day :(

    I am quite curious. Do you know if the bridge at the end of this video is still intact as it was in this video? Where might one find it?

    • @SeanFlaharty
      @SeanFlaharty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The bridge in the video has been replaced with one of a different design. It is located on I-71, north of Kings Island by about fifteen minutes. Bob recorded this when there used to be a observation platform to look at the bridge. I believe this is still the tallest bridge in Ohio. One of the main reasons the bridge was replaced as it was of the same, or very similar design to the bridge that collapsed in Minnesota in 2007.

      Their is a bike trail that run under it on the other side of that bridge. For some reason it has a wind that blows under it. I don't stop because you can see where things that have fell off and I don't what to be under it when something else falls.

      @@SeanFlaharty That makes me sad. I guess most of those old steel bridges have reached their end of life at this point. They are objectively inferior compared to modern engineering though, so I get it.
