    Bryson has talked about how in high school his coach trained them to believe they can make birdies and score well by playing from the red tees. Maybe you should do a "graduation". Break 65 from red tees, then white, then tips. As a white tee warrior, I wouldn't mind you seeing you play from the distances that I'm used to.

      Yeah I agree. Garrett’s game simply isn’t good enough to be + handicap. Maybe he should try to break par from the front tees before trying it from 7200.

    Garrett I love you guys golf. What's not to like right? I've been playing since 15, now I'm 72. I hit a plateau at 80-85 for about four years. Then I saw a book by Jack titled "Advanced Lesson Tee". It was about course and shot management, with advice on hitting from many different lies. He said not to change your swing or even practice after reading his book, if you were around a ten handicap. I did as he said, the next Saturday morning l broke par for the first time with a 71. My friends questioned my clubbing several times, but l stuck to it. I called it my first UNSTUPID ROUND. The best tip was this, " play to the best iron you hit on approach shots." For me that was a smoothed 8 iron from 135-145, had several eagles with it. So l subtracted 140 from the holes yardage and played the hole to my 8 iron. I developed AREA CODE golf for myself. My rule was, "Play on Short Grass". If you miss, only hit the next shot to get back to the short grass. What is Area Code Golf? I imagine a 20 yard circle as my target. Takes the pressure off, you're just smoothing something to an area your confident you can hit, shot after shot. Then you arrive at your MONEY approach club. I seldom had puts over fifteen feet. Could I hit my 8 iron 165? Yeah, but why? My warm up was hitting 50- 135 yard 8 irons. Since it was my best swing tempo, it played through my bag. The next time you try for 65, get the scorecard, subtract your best approach club distance (with a smooth swing) from each hole, play to set it down in the middle of the green on butterfly feet and l think you'll shoot 65. I even make little circles on the hole pictures, about where l want to land each shot. I keep the card in my pocket and score on it. Don't default to your normal routine just because you are doing well, stick to the plan. Oh, ignore everyone else's input, your on a mission. Hope you try it and tell us beforehand. It should be fun to watch. P.S. l did shoot in the sixties many times.

    I can’t agree more with the statement about brain liking to be where it’s comfortable. It’s happened to me so many times in golf that I’d have an amazing round and feeling super confident like nothing can mess it up, while subconsciously my brain wasn’t comfortable with that state and I mess up last few holes. And vice versa if I play terribly I find a way without thinking about any swing change to just suddenly play very well towards the end of the round. Never though about it like this but it’s a great point, very true imo.

Turning 3 shots into 2 by getting inside of 10 feet no matter what is probably better to prioritize, which means improving GIR wedge game from 150 in, short game getting it close and reducing misses where it's a low probability to get up and down.

    Hey Gm, love your vids and started watching during wheel of not ideal days. I appreciate all the content and enjoyment what you make adds to life. I am currently 5:50 in to the vid and had a question. I have learned since playing golf from watching you, course management is huge. I am about 2 years into playing. If you know you can get close to the green with driver like you said 30-40 yards before you teed off why do you still hit it? For instance, why not 3 wood or your hybrid that goes far but will give you a full wedge swing in with lower probability of missing the fairway. I do not know your exact number but your albatross from the fairway was 244 with your hybrid. I imagine teed up and running out on the fairway it could go 250-260 yards. 3 Wood if I am estimating about 280-290 yards. So why hit over one of those and then a full Pwedge or Wedge or 9 Iron. Thank you, keep up the amazing content!

    • @aaronryan1890
      @aaronryan1890 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As a scratch golfer, it is much more comfortable and has way less room for error when ur within 60 yards. Like ya it might be more comfortable hitting a full wedge from like 100 but ill go 10/10 on the green from 60 as opposed to 8/10 from 100

    • @hermancharly8312
      @hermancharly8312 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello man, I don't know if it helps but I talked about it with my coach. I always hit 4 iron of the tee to have a full Pwedge in but apparently when you get as good as those guys having 50yards from anywhere will result in more chances of birdies. But there are always exceptions like when you have bunkers. 50yards bunker shots are the most difficult shots in golf so in that situation, you better hit 3 wood and have a longer shot left.

    The PGA Tour average last season from 10-15 feet was 30% and from 15-20 feet was 18%. It would be nice to make more from that range, but it's the 5-10 foot range (PGA Tour average last year was 56%) where you will really see a difference.

    Obviously you know already know this but as an observer your course management should change specifically for this series. For example on the second rather than hit 3W into that bunker maybe hit 4 iron, like you planned, take the bunker out of play and take advantage of your wedge game. Wouldn’t you rather have 100-125Y than 60 from a bunker? Then on three, rather than driver when you can’t hit the green, lay up again to 100Y. Your wedge game is so good that sometimes I think you rely on it to get up and down from trouble when you should rely on it to get close to the pin from the “scoring range” of 100-125Y or so. Anyway, sorry for rambling, just my opinion. Love the content, especially when we still have 8 ft of snow here in MN!

    Stick to one shot shape for an entire round (when possible). I think you will shoot more consistently

      Exactly what Butch H tells his students. When I caddied for some LPGA that what they did as well.

    Solid round. Did it seem very windy to anyone else? Ball flight seemed like it may have been windy, but he didn't seem to mention it at all.

    I've always been taught to never bend my left elbow in my backswing, but I always see Garrett doing that. is that one of those things that gives more distance but is also less forgiving if you get off your swing line?

    • @creep7335
      @creep7335 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It generally takes you past parallel by doing that. So in essence yes. More distance and less forgiving. But do whats comfortable to you. Not what you see. John Rahm is no where near parallel and hits it plenty farm. Then theres Bubba. Who is miles past parallel. Neither of those swings are worth mimicking. But they work. Do what works for you.

      Generally not advised because it collapses the triangle you form with your arms at setup and makes the back swing arc more narrow but if you've got good hands and timing you can still get away with it. Just might not be as consistent as you want to be. Swing speed is dependent on how quickly you're able to rotate your hips. Speed is not found in the arms

      It’s all a feel thing. Max Homa, Ryan Fox, Fred Couples all bend there elbow. Max is the hottest golfer on tour, Ryan Fox has insane Lag and distance for his age and Freddy is Freddy so

    garrett why’d you go away from the arm lock? I thought you were improving a lot with the putter. You’ve still been putting really well lately but i’m just wondering

    There's a great channel that has some course management videos you might want to look at: Luke Kwon really has a lot to offer 😉
    All joking aside, your "not so good" round is still a pretty decent round of golf. Keep practicing, and remember to revisit the lessons you figure out during/after the rounds so you ingrain those ideas into your play.

    You should try a shoot 65 from the womens tee. It's a tactic to get you use to shooting low numbers.

    Just saying, maybe you should let Ryder comment every now and then. He is good behind the camera and in front of the camera. I would like to give a shout to all your camera men. Enjoy Collen as well in front of the camera. My apologies to Collen if I spelled your name wrong.

    Good effort and entertaining video thanks. You have the game and will break 65 easily when you least expect it. Do you know why they call it golf? Because the word F*** was already taken.
