The Giant Hogweed has also made it's ways to west Europe. My dad used to be a construction worker and one time years ago, he accidentally brushed against a plant he mistook for something similar looking. It was a small, still growing Giant Hogweed. Over the hours of the day his skin formed blisters and he developed a fever as well. His entire arm was covered in it and by the next morning he couldn't even move his arm anymore from the pain. He was given antibiotics and a creme against the blisters, but it barely worked. Took him a week to get better and even longer to have the deeply colored bruises and blisters disappear. Each time my dad sees one of those tall bastards here, he shudders. Lots of love, from Germany :D
I have to admit, I don't know that. It could be possible. But as Sass Nick said, it's not deadly as far as I know. Just hella painful. And fullgrown Giant Hogweed is easy to spot by it's huge size. Don't cut it down though should you see it.
You left out the most fucked up part of water hemlock, assuming you were talking about the dropwort variety. The seizures it gives its victims often resemble a person laughing uncontrollably before they die, making it look like they laughed themselves to death, and the victims are left with a rictus grin, or death smile making it a real life version of The Joker's smilex poison, wherein the victim laughs themselves to death and gains his smile

Also sidenote, potatoes are in the nightshade family, which is why you should never eat the part of the plant above ground, but the nice little potatoes underground are the exceptions to the rule

Lol I've done angels trumpet several times, doses upwards of 4 seed pods. I had no problems controlling myself. The real problem was having an extremely dry throat and being essentially blind for 2 days in a row. Stick to benadryl or amanitas for deleriant lol

Not like the yearly bear mauling but it still happens.
Rob Dyke, I first saw that you were doing a video on plants and thought TH-cam really put you at rock bottom for materials that are now 'TH-cam' friendly. That was until I watched it. Wow, I am impressed on how creepy the most seemingly innocent video comes out when you are involved. Kudos and Keep up the AMAZING work!
My dad picked up an Angel’s Trumpet seed pod from California and brought it back home for me to plant in our yard. It’s sitting on my nightstand right now. Luckily I remembered this video and immediately recognized it as deadly. The seed pod is going directly in the trash! I can’t thank you enough for posting this video! My dog loves eating random stuff off the floor and I don’t know what I would do if he got hurt!
There is a garden in the UK that is the most dangerous garden in the world; The Alnwick Garden, commonly known as The Poison Garden, it hosts a large variety of poisonous plants, stored for educational purposes. Well worth checking out.
PlainSailingWeather It's lovely to visit - I went two summers ago but lost all my photos when the SD card in the camera got corrupted before I could save the photos elsewhere. The castle is nice too, they filmed some scenes from Harry Potter there. Worth noting that you can walk around it yourself, you're taken on a tour. Meant I couldn't hang round the plants I wanted to :(
Damn that sucks :/, And I can imagine yeah, if you touched the wrong thing you'd be dead or seriously seriously ill, suppose they have to protect the public.
Well that is one good use for it that's for certain. Darwinism is a lovely thing. Yeah I'm the same, it is a shame :(, one day you'll get here and see it! :D
As a former medic in the Australian Army, Gympie is bad stuff. However that story about an officer wiping his bum and shooting himself is an old Furphy "Urban legend/story" designed to scare young diggers. Others I have heard is that it was an American soldier on a joint exercise in Tully Jungle Training Area (which is where we could come in contact with that plant) same scenario but no shooting. Seen to soldiers who accidentally brushed up on a Gympie. The "hairs" along with having a peptide coating are hollow, this allows air, dirt, water, sweat ect to go straight to the nervous system under the skin. Hospital treatment is usually steroids and cleaning the affected area, yeah cleaning, which brings back the pain! Most cases are minor, like on the hand but if you fall on one, your clothes won't provide much protection as the hairs are minuscule. Never heard of horses killing themselves though, that's a new one for me, but definitely sounds plausible seeming the more contact the worse the injury.
*What about Rosary pea? One tiny seed can kill you.* *EDIT: There's also a plant called The New Zealand tree nettle. Brushing against it can kill you within hours.*
I tasted a manchineel fruit and survived. I was in Barbados, and I didn't see any of the trees near the water, and knew of the danger before. It looked like a pear, and me and my dad tried it. We spit it out, but I had a bit of acid reflux. We had beer and burgers which seemed to keep me alive.
That's not true about wolfsbane at all yes those are the symptoms if you eat it. Touching it can have a very mild effect on you but nothing that can kill you. Just some mild nausea
You have no idea what you're talking about, If you did you wouldn't hide behind some stupid ass name. I guess if you're family or whoever knows you found your posts, They would call you out, Your a coward with nothing to contribute so shut the fuck up.
Correct, I would have been dead a hundred times over if that were the case. We had monkshood in our garden and I brushed against it countless times. I was aware it was poisonous to ingest, though.
Most nightshade is in fact, not poisonous. People don't realize that nightshade is an umbrella term for many plants including your common garden tomato.
yes- Nightshade is the name of the plant family, not just one species. And the family includes potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, eggplant... about half of the ingredients in my salsa recipe are nightshade plants.
We keep Angel's Trumpets at the plant nursey where I work. That's probably why we're all banana balls lol. Another plant that shares the nickname Angel's Trumpet is Datura, which, funnily enough, is also poisonous. Don't trust anything with a biblical nickname!
Alexia O'Brien I was just checking to see if anyone else caught that. Had to rewind the video to make sure I heard that correctly, or should I say incorrectly.
There's two Angel's Trumpet plants in the garden of our home. Apparently they're extinct in the wild and pretty hard to cultivate, but not ours! Our two plants seem to be growing quite happily down there.
I took the tour of Alnwick Castle garden where they keep deadly plants. They told some stories about why some of those plants were there and how they were used back in the day when the castle was in use. Apparently Angel horn was commonly used as ladies used to go for walks in the garden, hold a cup of tea under the flower and tap it for a sneaky high. If you visit the U.K. again, do try a tour of Alnwick castle 😉 The poison garden is fenced off and you can go in with the tour guide on each hour I think.
Last year both my horse and dog got into hogweed. It was a horrific process. Thankfully we nipped the hogweed in the bud and haven't had it grow back this year... in the areas affected now that it's healed it looks like the scarring you see on burn victims. Glossy, thin and prone to cancerous moles.
Some of the flowers were quite pretty and lovely looking... but then it turns out if you touch them you die an excruciating horrible death. Nature is pretty damn metal.
We have hogweeds here in the UK, they are quite common in the countryside. Had a friend who cut one down without knowing what it was, got the liquid on his face, thankfully not his eyes. Years later he just has bumped, rigid skin on his face. Horrible stuff.
Just to let you know - Aldershot in england is pronounced all-der-shot. I know us english do not pronounce most words as they are spelt, it is very confusing even for us! haha! I live about 10 minutes from Aldershot so I am now about to go google that plant so I know exactly what it looks like and the symptoms so I can teach my family (especially my nephews and niece) about it to keep them safe. Thank you for doing this video Rob, you have potentially saved many lives :)
Møøsey Yes!!! 👍😂 He should sing and dance a song bout a great fast food business dressed in a fat body suit (no matter which business). I'm sure he'll look hilarious! - I'm not completely sure now but I guess he had an ad before this video. (But as I said I'm not sure).
MUK I think they said it was that algae that turns red when stressed, but idk if they were 100% sure on it. I thought they said they found evidence of its growth though.
I remember us playing in ninjas as we were kids, and cut down the hogweed with makeshift swords and other "weapons". That was actualy fun. And yes, it burned like hell. But pucture the burns with needle was interesting.
Awesome video! I can't stop thinking of Fitzchivalry while watching this... makes me think of what kind of plant he ingested that gave him permanent tremors and seizures.
Hey Rob, I appreciate the daily upload by I'm a bit concerned with the work+stress+cost it takes to make these daily uploads. You sure you could do this? I don't want you to sacrifice your health for this man. Hope you're alright.
Probably takes about 1-3 hours at most to make a video like this considering he has help, plus he can't be spending much or he wouldn't be making it back he clearly isn't working for free. Also sense most people work about 8-10 to sometimes 15 hours a day depending on your job and they go perfectly fine and even get paid far less, i'm certain he is entirely fine working 10 hours out of the week.
I disabled ad block and I dont skip any ads on your channel, Trying to help in areas I can to save creepy content! Btw was this done for Earth Day? Because if not that is good timing!
We've had an 'outbreak' of Hemlock around the Twin Cities over this spring and summer, they're taking over and unfortunately look like another completely safe native plant, so a lot of people have experienced reactions from touching them without realizing what it is.
Very interesting video!! I hadn't of many of them , other than the angel trumpet plant. I have friend who has one that's blooming ,,I'll be sending her a message tomorrow !!!

My Step Dad's Aunt used poison Ivy as toilet paper and had to be strapped to a bed until she began to heal...so I'm told !
My high school art teacher did same. She was out for like 2 weeks, but idk if they had to strap her down.

Why aren't kids taught this shit in school? I mean I could potentially save their lives, unlike figuring out if a triangle is actually a triangle.
Keith's Mullet This is stuff for biology class!
In Europe we actually do learn this shit in schools.
A lot of my teachers used to talk about this stuff with us when we were little kids, of course it was more of a side subject/casual talk though.
In all seriousness, teachers are overworked enough by all the stuff they already have to teach. Curriculums are bloated.
Keith's Mullet do you have an example of a triangle that isn't actually a triangle?

Veronica Sandström Hey! Witch buddies
Veronica Sandström Actually potatoes can be poisonous. They can kill. Don't keep them in sunlight and never eat a green potato.
Green potatoes won't kill you, but they will give you the feeling that your intestines have liquefied. If a potato tastes bitter, spit it out (protip)
Veronica Sandström Well you're lovely...
The leaves of tomatoes are also poisonous. All night shades are poisonous in some way. Only reason why I know this is because I'm an avid gardener.

What is Poseidon's favorite type of gum?
...Trident😂😂😂
YellowFlash OfTheLeaf I don't get it
TheLegend27 'Trident' is brand name for Chewing Gum. :)
Poisden is often pictured with a three tine spear or trident. This is also the name of a brand of gum.
@TheLegend it's Poseidon's weapon :x
Sandyk Sandy What's chewing gum?
There is a garden in the UK that is the most dangerous garden in the world; The Alnwick Garden, commonly known as The Poison Garden, it hosts a large variety of poisonous plants, stored for educational purposes. Well worth checking out.
PlainSailingWeather I've always wanted to visit there. It looks amazing...
Meant I couldn't hang round the plants I wanted to :(
It really does, it's beautiful. Deadly, but beautiful.
Horrorticulture...Get it? Ok I'll see myself out.
oh my god.
HA! Good one.

Um...wasn't Abraham Lincoln's wife named Mary Todd Lincoln?
*What about Rosary pea? One tiny seed can kill you.*
*EDIT: There's also a plant called The New Zealand tree nettle. Brushing against it can kill you within hours.*
Chicken Permission there's been just one recorded death from the tree nettle; the hunter was lightly clad and likely couldn't get help in time :/
OK
Tree nettle is likely the same thing, or closely related. They're in the stinging nettle family.
And people call me crazy for not being an outdoorsy person...
Where can I buy these plants? Asking for a friend...
just go to a police station
Google it.
alaska wilderness. pack a 30day camping trip. goodluck
Legendary Jerry Remind me not to be you're friend haha
Seeds and plants of many available online.
TimeForAReview thank goodness. I was feeling really scared to go outside lol.
What does the letter A have in common with a flower? Both are followed by Bees👏
Bert21597 Pure joke, bless
Bert21597 GODDAMNT BARB
Nancy Lincoln was Abraham Lincoln's mother, not wife, I believe. Great, terrifying video :)
Thank God I'm not the only one who noticed that! Out of the entire video, that's the one thing that annoyed me.
mrdarcy2005 Same
Right, I knew it was Mary Todd, but I double checked. We are such sticklers LOL
Eh same difference
Who needs sleep anyway when you've got Rob's vids instead?
Was waiting on the edge of my seat for you to bring up Gimpy Gimpy! A wonderful episode, like always. Thanks, Rob!!
Rob Gavagan, your voice is like music to my ears! You have such a magical way with words.
Most nightshade is in fact, not poisonous. People don't realize that nightshade is an umbrella term for many plants including your common garden tomato.
That is actually poisonous. Leaves, green fruit and seeds are poisonous. Same thing with potato.
@@ladynym so are the fried green tomatoes a different type of tomato and not unripe ones?
@@AnonymousFREEZEpOp1 i do believe they are ordinary tomatoes that are just not ripe yet. Heating process probably removes poisonous parts in it.
yes- Nightshade is the name of the plant family, not just one species. And the family includes potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, eggplant... about half of the ingredients in my salsa recipe are nightshade plants.
@@ladynym negative. Heat/cooking does little to remove solanine.
We keep Angel's Trumpets at the plant nursey where I work. That's probably why we're all banana balls lol.
Another plant that shares the nickname Angel's Trumpet is Datura, which, funnily enough, is also poisonous. Don't trust anything with a biblical nickname!
Datura is wide known as suicide plant in our country. People try to kill themselves with its flowers.
Datura tea is the best! More people need to give it a chance...
i thought abraham lincoln's wife name was Mary Todd??
yeah, Nancy was his mom
Alexia O'Brien I was just checking to see if anyone else caught that. Had to rewind the video to make sure I heard that correctly, or should I say incorrectly.
Jane Doe me too I was just making sure it wasn't just me XD
Thank you... I wonder how Rob missed that glaring mistake?
Lincoln's wife's name is Sweeney Todd... Lol
This is the most terrifying of all your lists, in my opinion. 😳
Breathing the air miles away will kill you... 3:23 then why is the lady standing near it with a child.
Can kill you mean it won't always spread to the air.
Hey! Aren't you dead/alive? Get back in your box!
Because that's not the actual flower...
Schrödinger's Cat I love your username! 😻
He said CAN kill you
plants are interesting, you can find a flower that has the smell of love and you can find a flower that smell like rotting meat, soo fancy
which one would you keep in a garden though?
koolerpure I'd keep the one that sticks to your skin. I can use it on my enemy :D
koolerpure I keep Voodoo Lillie's which are related to Corpse flowers look nice but the smell is rather bad.
koolerpure what exactly does 'love' smell like?!
emily mulcahy Lots of sex. ;-)
Rob: posts a video when I'm about to go to bed
Me: I don't need sleep I need answers.
There's two Angel's Trumpet plants in the garden of our home. Apparently they're extinct in the wild and pretty hard to cultivate, but not ours! Our two plants seem to be growing quite happily down there.
10:36 - Abraham Lincoln’s wife’s name was Mary Todd Lincoln, not Nancy Lincoln. Nancy was his mother.
Nancy (Hanks) Lincoln was Abe's mom, not wife.
Today was the best day ever! IHE, Rob, Cayleigh, Adoseofbuckley AND Simplynailogical, all in a matter of hours!!!
Stay away from the devil's herb, stick with his lettuce 😂
Ayyyyyyy
The Devil’s parsley, you mean. Sorry, that’s the Adrian Monk fanboy in me coming to the surface. 😆
The devils lettuce is legal in Canada. How I'm getting through COVID.
You should do a vid about ghost ships or abandoned themeparks :)
Mrs Frizzle read abandoned by disney. it's about an abandoned disney theme park. pretty creepy stuff.
El Diablo *Should*
To go with the million other vids on the subject.
If you visit the U.K. again, do try a tour of Alnwick castle 😉
The poison garden is fenced off and you can go in with the tour guide on each hour I think.
Hey there Rob! Every time I see your notification, I stop whatever I'm doing. Gotta go, my prisoner's trying to escape!
Nikki Jordan Nuu dont let him escape :o
Midnight Legends But Rob mogjt get new content if it happens :o (Sarcasm is here boiz)
Nikki Jordan The Russian Arm Bar will always keep prisoners in their place. I highly suggest it.
Nikki Jordan The Russian Arm Bar will always keep prisoners in their place. I highly suggest it.
you'll never catch me
i'm allergic to apples so every apple is the apple of death
same actually, but im just. intolerant to them if that makes sense
yeah that makes sense
Damn nature, you scary.
Damn girl, you're hot.
The Shadow Person Damn boy, you thristy.
Alicia Giron Complimenting someone is considered thirsty? You're delusional.
Some of the flowers were quite pretty and lovely looking... but then it turns out if you touch them you die an excruciating horrible death. Nature is pretty damn metal.
Alicia Giron you look hot too
Wow! I have been watching all your older videos and man you do have some of the best content on TH-cam! You find the craziest stories lol
We have hogweeds here in the UK, they are quite common in the countryside. Had a friend who cut one down without knowing what it was, got the liquid on his face, thankfully not his eyes. Years later he just has bumped, rigid skin on his face. Horrible stuff.
*Holly* shit, just can't *beelieve* the huge explosion of scary videos!
Stu Pot He needs to make more videos because TH-cam is screwing his channel over.
PurpleLizard 23 I understand that, but honestly I just wanted an excuse to make plant puns.
Just a Peppermint Tea For Me Oh haha didn't see those
PurpleLizard 23 :^))
happy earth day!
Seymore was a pretty scary plant too. Just ask Stanley!
This may be my favorite video of yours. Ever. I found it super captivating.
9:36 Jeez, Rob, you should do commercials with that voice. xD.
Møøsey
Yes!!! 👍😂
He should sing and dance a song bout a great fast food business dressed in a fat body suit (no matter which business).
I'm sure he'll look hilarious! - I'm not completely sure now but I guess he had an ad before this video. (But as I said I'm not sure).
i assume that the ancient curse of the pharoah where the water is replaced by BLOOD is actually this KERINIA BLOOM.... what you say guys
MUK I think they said it was that algae that turns red when stressed, but idk if they were 100% sure on it. I thought they said they found evidence of its growth though.
How to be a prophet.
- Nature does her scary shit
- Claim that you did that with the "help" of god
yeah... i am just saying that the ancient people just couldnt know what was it... so they just said it was blood
TH-cam should be ashamed of itself. We love creators like Rob they shouldn't be demonetized.
I have 3 of the plants on this list in my yard.... Wtf dude? I'm glad I use planters for my peppers and tomatoes.
10:35 I believe you mean Abraham Lincoln's mother. Otherwise, wonderful video Rob!
dodaTiffany incest is wincest
water hemlock grows all over my area but I already knew what it was because I guess I'm just weird and find plant species interesting lol
I love this video so much. I always comeback to it and have for years. I miss this.
Nightshade used to grow around my old school and i had no idea they could kill me because i always played with the berries and planted them everywhere
Solanine is the bitter toxic compound. Also found in green potatoes. You need to ingest a lot for it to be fatal.
Hey Rob, I appreciate the daily upload by I'm a bit concerned with the work+stress+cost it takes to make these daily uploads. You sure you could do this? I don't want you to sacrifice your health for this man. Hope you're alright.
Brigando Tinangbutil he's not a 95 year old woman. lol I'm pretty sure he'll be fine.
Pretty sure he meant rob being exhausted and working himself too much not getting enough sleep
ROOOOOB! WHERE ARE YOU!!! I want to see your face while you inform me of amazing things.😣
MacArabella 13 I knooooow !! I miss his face!
