I live in Grayling amd just saw my first kirtland warbler last evening- flew onto my fence last evening and perched briefly 6ft away I was truly blessed by this visit !!!!! 2:51
Good going Chris! We have some Kirtland’s breeding in Ontario, Canada as well. A few are often spotted passing through Point Pelee National Park in the spring as they are migrating through on a parallel flight path with Michigan 😊
Nice! I actually bought a book about the bird in Grayling and found out more about the breeding records in Ontario and Wisconsin. Good to see the species recovering after some pretty dicey years!
Dang, i wish i wouldve known you guys were in the area. Awesome to see you enjoying the birds of my local patch. Would love to see some longer vids of you trying to find specific birds.
Wow I was just looking into taking a trip for these guys and don't you know it y'all just posted a video on them. I wonder can I venture out just on my own and come across one or will i need some kind of guide or official tour? Are the habitats in Michigan publicly accessible?
They are pretty easy to locate once you are in the right habitat, just listen to the song a bunch before you go looking. There are official tours from Michigan Audubon, but there are a good number of areas that are accessible and you can go looking on your own.
Hi Mick, Matt’s answer is spot on. We visited a public spot in the right habitat and simply waited for a bird to call, which it did almost right away. Good luck!
I had so much fun on this trip!
Me too! Great to see the video.
Hope you enjoyed the video! 😁
Matt is a good guy - you were in excellent hands. Glad you enjoyed your time in our beautiful Great Lakes State!
He is indeed! We had a blast, can’t wait to visit again 😁
I like Steve's cameo. :)
A top cameo 😁
very cool!!!!
Thanks 😁
Glad you were able to visit the beautiful state of Michigan were I reside! How many lifers did you get while in the Midwest?
I had so much fun, such a beautiful state 😁 and I got 25 lifers just in Michigan, over 50 on the whole Midwest trip

We had such a good time in Michigan! Such nice people and excellent birding. We’ll have some more target videos coming up in the next few months 😁
Great, bird! One of the 3 “North American” warblers that I haven’t seen yet!
What are the other two?

Where in Michigan did this take place?
Hi Walter 👋 all of this footage was filmed around Grayling
Thank you!!!
What month were you there?
We visited in mid-May just after the Indiana Dunes Birding Festival
@@TheBirdersShow a some point I'll make that trip
@@douglasstemke2444 totally worth!
Id love to come photograph these guys. Is there areas where you can just walk up and down the road?
check eBird records... pretty common along that road in the right pine habitat!
If you do nothing with the forest it will burn everything down….including houses. Management is crucial
indeed... we don't do that here in Colombia
