I love when Dan's voice changes from the character to himself as he realizes shit is going sideways. Especially with Sayori's at the end. It honestly makes it kinda scarier. Makes the atmosphere that much more tense. One of my favorite unintentional things
Yeah, I've watched this playthrough like a dozen times and I always laugh along with ~90% of the dark jokes, but I'm glad that particular reaction was so kind. Makes me feel kinda seen.
I think this game truly unlocked some kind of psychic ability in Dan, he predicts something major about each character in such an off hand way. Its like if That's so raven was about a 40 year old man attending high school.
The transition from Dan being happy & singing "Smell Yo D*ck" at the beginning, to laughing and cutting jokes with Arin, to him being traumatized for life is still freaking hilarious to me. Thank you, Arin, for keeping Dan completely in the dark about the plot.
5:56:13 "I can't calm down... I can't focus on anything anymore... I have to DANCE!" is one of Dan's most underrated lines he's ever said. Kills me every damn time.
That what I love about Dan. He could be going through the most trauma and terrifying content he’s ever seen, and still find ways to make great jokes in the middle of the chaos
The makers of this game really did a good job with the foreshadowing and character design and stuff ‼️‼️ I love it so much and the voices were also so spot on from the beginning
Looking back now, Monika definitely has the most robotic body language of all the girls. She's usually facing you weirdly straight on. Wonder if that was deliberate design
I read somewhere that she was made to intentionally stand out from the rest of them. That’s why Monika has a different name (doesn’t end with an I) and wears different colored socks. She also has more natural looking hair and eyes when compared to the rest of the class.
Kinda ruins the immersion that the voice over for Monika at the end wasn't true to the way she talked. At least i didn't think it was what Monika would sound like talking. She used to many "like" "cuz" and things you know?
@@MarioThaMonkey I feel you. Perhaps that could be the game's robotic approximation of a teenage girl talking. Like the computer synthesized that sound once it knew you had it beat so it overcompensated and sounded cliche
100% sure this is intentional. The idea with her first poem is that she's aware she's a character in a game from before the time the game starts. She's addressing YOU the player the entire time rather than the character you're playing, and she knows where you're looking from.
Dan Salvato pulls Dan Avidan's sense of security out from under his feet does it so hard he flips twice and shows the X-ray of his neck breaking for 6 hours.

I know this probably wasn’t intentional, but I adore how the only time that Arin puts any emotion in Monika’s voice is when she’s being deleted at 6:27:11. That “DID YOU DELETE ME?” gives me chills EVERY time. And the way she still sounds like a robot, but somehow… more tired… it’s SO good.
It just goes to show how awesome an actor Arin is. He’s grown as one with this channel and with all the work he’s done outside of GG, even though this is coming up on 5-6 years old, he had still really developed himself as a great voice actor. He’s our talented boi!

My late husband was going through an intense round of chemo and radiation when this series came out. We had to stay in a hotel at the hospital, and this was often the only thing that could get us laughing at the end of the day. Watching it again makes me sympathize with Sayori in a way I never did before; it is bittersweet. But I still can't help but laugh and be glad they made this. Thanks guys.
that was actually one of my favorite touches. i've often heard people criticize or mock those who self harm, but the automatic reaction of 'that poor girl' is a really nice change
this might be a hot take, but i actually love the eagles can fly poem. i always really feel the non rhyme at the end and i totally identify with the whole "everyone around me does amazing things and i don't" feeling

I've watched this series at least 30+ times now and it is so dear to me, but I just wish I could have that same heart wrenching feeling when the story clicks into place again
I love that at 4:58:49, Dan was actually looking in the right place to pick up some clues. Monica was writing about how she knew the others weren’t sentient like her
This movie format they’re releasing popular series in is absolutely amazing. Perfect for homework or just to have playing. Great idea from my favorite channel.
I've really enjoyed that OneyPlays does this with their complete series. It helps bring in additional revenue while providing a nice format to watch a series in. I'm glad that GG has also caught up to the idea (which I felt was long overdue).

@@CyberController- same. I haven't had the experience of playing this game, I only know about it through this playthrough, but my heart PLUMMETED when I saw that line.
Ironically, the binary that Arin made up at 1:18:15 (100100010) translates to just a quotation mark ("), which I just found funny after saying "Like Monika said..."
Fun Fact: Once Yuri's eye pops and starts bleeding at 5:41:56, it continues to bleed while you talk to Yuri. If you look closely, you can see red dripping from her right eye.
6:30:16 I love how Dan is just so horrified to know there’s more, I just imagine him trying to like crawl away and Arin’s like “cmon we gotta finish the play through”
As much as I love Dan's organic reaction to Sayori, its Arin's steady realization that he was spot on with the robot voice that seals it for me. "I think... I think... I think there's more truth to the fact that we gave her a robot voice." Perfection.
Arin saying "It's not over, Dan." is the exact devious energy I crave every time I get my friends into a game with a big twist. What a wild ride. Dan's reactions from start to finish are golden.
tbh i wish the game had leaned into this more, i loved truman show and this is basically the same thing, a character bumping into the fourth wall like a bird bonking into a window
I felt called out by Sayori in the first half. Mental illness really do be that way. And with Yuri too. Shit like this can really happen to people irl. Probably my only criticism with this game is how they kind of brush it under the rug as Monika's meddling, despite how it hits home for some people. There's no Monika for us. It's just our brains glitching out on our own. I can't decide if I should be treating these characters as people or NPCs.
@@The1nvisibleJeevas that’s not how it is, though. They were all already unstable. The interactions before the meddling starts is apparent there. The meddling starts when your character tells Sayori he loves her. Monika just enhanced the feelings that were already there. It was implied that you should feel like these characters are human, because Monika felt pity for destroying them. She didn’t cause their issues, though, only exacerbated them. It’s implied pretty heavily that this was the path they were taking anyway, before you appeared.
is it just me, or is this literally the best thing the game grumps have made. their style and humor mixed with their brand of comedy really just adds an entire experience to the whole thing. absolutely my comfort series.
Yeah that's such a well executed piece of dialogue, it's also the immediate and obvious (in a good way) foreshadowing that Monika is suppose to be self aware.
“stagnating air is common foreshadowing that something terrible is about to happen” god i love the foreshadowing in this game. team salvato really layed it on thick with this one.
This series for me was really special. The episode would come out every time a friend and I were in our computer class, so we would rush to get our assignment done and try to watch the new episode. So as it got closer and closer to the twist, my friend and I just got more anxious and excited. It was a nice time that I still think back on.
My favorite serious moment from the play through is when they first find out yuri cuts herself and the genuine concern that Dan had was just so nice “oh no she’s a cutter, that poor girl”
Seeing Yuri like that makes me have sympathy pains across my arm with the SH scars. Hearing Dan say that was nice because a lot of people have very negative reactions when it comes to SH

I never noticed until watching this upload that way early into the game, Sayori says "I'm going to write poems until I die", and Yuri says "This club will be the death of me".
After knowing what happens to Sayori, seeing this all from the beginning hits a lot more cuz she's pretty much giving every sign imaginable, and they legit didn't know at the time. Too real. I completely forgot about it until rewatching this, and wow. And freaking Monika dropping hints too.
What's really messed up is she didn't want to do it either, If you look at her hands in that shot they are all bloody since as soon as she has free will she tried to free herself. If only she had normal human hands.
There was also all the hints of problems with the other girls. With Yuri having MC getting the paints ready, she cuts herself and you almost catch her because you played it safe. She rolled down her sleeves when she was about to paint instead of up and her face is red, but you kinda get to play it off as just blushing
even small things as well - she oversleeps bc she barely has the energy to get up, her uniform is messy and disheveled because she cant put in the effort to even just make herself look orderly, she wants to make everyone happy because she basically thinks its all shes good for, stuff like that
I love how the whole time they played this they never noticed when the poster changed to Sayori hanging from the ceiling during the second half of the game
My favourite parts of this entire playthrough is: “Natsuki turns into a box” AAHHH!! IM REDUCING!!!! And the natsuki having a potato slowly inserted into her mouth 😂
One foreshadow I never see people talk about: 3:15:00 “I guess I never gave Sayori enough credit, but I can tell things are a lot harder on you when she’s not around”. Oh boy I wonder how the 2nd act turns out…
I think the grumps gameplay of doki doki is my favorite, not just because it's incredibly funny, but because they don't skip dialogue after the incident. I feel like a lot of the youtubers I watched play this game, they would skip because they noticed it was the same, but them they would skip things that were new or spooky.

And she doesn't need to add new traits to make her friends repulsive, just magnify their screwed-up harem VN personalities. This happened to Monika, too -- she was just magnified before the player arrived. Given Sayori's complete heelturn at the end, I wonder how many other members were deleted. HELP THE FACT THEY IMMEDIATELY CLOCKED MONIKA AS A ROBOT IS SO FUNNY 💀
The makers of this game really did a good job with the foreshadowing and character design and stuff ‼️‼️ I love it so much and the voices were also so spot on from the beginning
Looking back now, Monika definitely has the most robotic body language of all the girls. She's usually facing you weirdly straight on. Wonder if that was deliberate design
wouldn't surprise me with how the game goes, especially after the "Point of no return" (this is the point when we find sayori dead)
The way this game gently lulls Dan into a sense of security and then yanks it out so hard he somersaults into the abyss

@@The1nvisibleJeevas that’s not how it is, though. They were all already unstable. The interactions before the meddling starts is apparent there.
