Blackpool was in its hey day a magnate for holiday makers. It was a place where loads of people came for their summer break. It’s very sad to see this decline. May god have mercy on those stuck in the town. ❤

@@bloodraven2887 Do you remember the illuminations in Blackpool. They were a must see attraction. Me and my mum went to the very top of the Blackpool Tower. Oh not forgetting the rides at Blackpool pleasure beach. The Big Dipper, the laughing policeman, and in later years the Pepsi max Rollercoaster. From all that glorious fun to a town that looks like a hub for drugs and prostitution. So sad.

I could belive that the fact the local hospital is a teaching hospital will have an affect when considering high mortality and child mortality.
Blackpool lost it's apeal for stay home British hollidays. Eventually becoming a hotspot for Stag and Hen nights. I don't know how many stag or hen nights occer now thou.
I would say that more well known celebreties visiting Blackpool for shows would probably bring more people in, I mean there is Blackpool Grand Theater aswell as the Winter Guardens.

Can’t understand why people on here say it’s declining and is run down etc and one of the worst places in uk ? Why then is it the number one holiday seaside hotspot with record no of visitors this year and last ? - fireworks championships last night and couldn’t move with the crowd and when it’s a nice day during the season it’s packed . There’s Stanley park and the zoo and another 4 beautiful resorts also close by like st Anne’s and Lytham , bispham, cleveleys and fleetwood (which is all administratively part of Blackpool ) - you can get a ferry over to knott end and visit the beautiful mountains of piling and there’s Freeport shopping arcade etc ) and beautiful coastal scenery which joins all of them together and the season extends now upto early January with the Christmas area at the front with free ice skating and rides etc and there even in the process of building a big indoor entertainment complex with markets and rides and virtual reality cinema which should be ready in a few years .
Admittedly though on the surface when you first arrive here it can look a bit run down in various places and there are a lot of beggars and druggies and there needs to be more jobs and it can look gloomy in winter but that can be said for most places in the uk. A lot of people slag the place off come from Manchester and I visited Manchester City centre recently and the no of beggars on the streets was appalling and round the outskirts it can look run down as well and once you go further out there’s hardly anything there exciting although heaton park and the Trafford centre are nice but other than those and even though there are more employment opportunities there but here there are more jobs than in most seaside resorts as we also have all the main businesses , a town centre-and hospitals and industrial areas and of course there is the seasonal employment so if your willing to make an effort and sometimes be flexible in what your willing to accept then there is work - you’ve just got to make the effort to find it . But if you have an income in Blackpool it can be an enjoyable place to be and there’s always things to do even in mid winter - shows, indoor water slides park , three piers with rides and shows etc , a big theme park , Stanley park and a zoo and a large nature reserve at the back and holiday camping park and the village hotel with large golf course and outdoor heated swimming pool all year round , staining countryside for rambling, the tower with tower dungeon and loads of entertainment inside , arcades, swimming pools, vintage trams , beaches and sea with some beautiful sunsets , sandcastle ( a big indoor water slide park ) , seas life centre (big indoor aquarium ) ,big posh hotels and cheap b&b’s and shows and events such as red arrows and fireworks championships and outdoor concerts and winter gardens with loads of events like strictly come dancing tv show etc etc , loads of bars pubs clubs cafes opera houses and talent shows and a circus in the tower . We’ve even got Southport and Lancaster and morcambe and the peak and Lake District on our doorstep . So, yeah, it’s a little rough round the edges but you do get a lot and I’d rather live here as it has more to offer than most places in uk for me at least and have visited quite a few places in the uk and apart from places like London and apart from a few parks and city centres most of it is quite boring and depressing especially with the poor weather most of the time .

i think there saying its a bad place to live because I know what your saying we do have great things for holiday makers I agree but I also agree with the poverty to it which tourists don't see . in the 40 years ive lived here ive noticed a massive change and it's so sad

@@Amanda-c6b3i Agree about the poverty but it can be like that in a lot of parts of the uk not just Blackpool - there’s not much in other seaside resorts either and apart from Brighton Blackpool has a better economy than most of these resorts as there’s more businesses and seasonal work here and infact it’s just like any other town in the north in terms of its economy

This video should be retitled "HOW Blackpool Is Poor" and not 'why' as it doesn't give any reasons. I suspect the vaccum left when huge industries no longer supplied enormous volumes of holidaymakers and everyone in a mill was given the SAME week off a year. Add to that the enormous cost of continual expensive maintenance the housing stock needs to survive the weather conditions from the Irish sea and you are left with a declining oversupply of holiday accomadation left to be squatted, used as growfarms or lived in by the poor attracted by the nostalgia of former days and the thin crust of entertainment remaining along patches of the prom and piers. Just my thoughts.

It’s the Irish Sea, but I catch your drift. I feel the place would take off if industry & government invested there. They have excellent road links, and it’s close to Manchester, Preston and Leeds, not too far away. It’s in managed decline now; however, my parent used to visit a lot in the early 90s. They said it was vibrant, family-friendly and inexpensive.

I live in Morecambe a seaside town near Blackpool. It's the same here and it is not poverty. You are just following the media. The UK imports 1,127.872 2004 tonnes of oil. Split that roughly into 4 . Petrol, diesel, other and aviation fuel. How to use up all that aviation fuel. 1.Shut down all of the UK seaside resorts. let 22 million people fly to Spain or away on holiday. 2. Make sure no investment and the streets have down and outs hanging around. Job done. As an example try going for a week's holiday in a UK seaside town. Then a week's holiday in Spain. You would not believe the English invented the seaside holiday and you would only drive to Blackpool on a day trip.

The reason why is we inrogred it after the second World War many saw it as out dated and made jokes at its expense.
There's also the main reason why many say it's down is because its a sea side town, well if that was the case then why us Brighton so well then.
The over centre of the past and not the future
What can we do, help provide venues of reinvention
    What I will do
Make Lancashire our Hollywood and centre of more media we seen how well media city is in Manchester centre but make it a centre of media in general
