A few people have asked, why didn't I find the first class car before I got on the train to begin with? There's a whole story to that, which I actually told when I was on the train at the beginning. But then I cut it out of the video because I realized it was too long. But I'll tell it here just for fun. I arrived at the central train station in Milan about forty-five minutes early. I'd bought the ticket to Lugano the day before and knew I would need to change trains in Chiasso. When I got to the station I looked at the board for the train to Chiasso to see which platform it was leaving from, but it wasn't on the board yet. So I waited there for it to come up on the board. It was showing several trains leaving at the same time as mine, but none of them showed that they were going to Chiasso. So I kept waiting and finally another line appeared for another train. But it wasn't going to Chiasso and also the departure time was later than the departure time for my train. In other words, it appeared that there was no train at all departing from Milan central station going to Chiasso. By that time it was only fifteen minutes or so before the train departed. I headed into the train station to try to find someone who could tell me what was going on with my train. I couldn't find an info booth, but finally came across a train employee. He was able to explain that I needed to catch a completely different train that was going to the airport, and on the way to the airport that train would be making a stop at another station where I needed to get off to catch the other train that was going to Chiasso. Once it arrived there I would have three minutes to catch the other train. Luckily it all worked out and I was able find the platform for the train in time. But when I got to the train I was more concerned about getting on it before the doors closed than finding first class. I never did find out if there was a first class car. At least it was only a waste of five euros. I guess the moral of the story is when in doubt, try to find out where your train is leaving from earlier rather than at the last minute. Luckily it isn't usually as complicated as this situation.
I‘m more wondering why you didn’t use your first class ticket on the swiss train (at least the seat reflection looked like the cloth seats of 2nd class as opposed to the leather in 1st.
Yep, excellent railway employee. Here in the UK ticket office staff will help with a ticket to where you want to get to but won't voluntarily help with anything else.

Oh forgot to say I was in Lucerne in 1993 when that historic wooden bridge burnt down. Woke up in the morning to take a walk and it was gone! Just walked over it the night before.
17:07 Here is the statue of William Tell, a folk hero of Switzerland who is known for his successful apple-shot with a bow (apple was on his son's head). Yes, Lugano is still mainly Italian-speaking but this Canton of Ticino is the only canton in Switzerland where Italian is prevalent. Only Canton of Graubünden (Grisons) is another Swiss canton where Italian is official language (along German and Romansh there). Gabriel, thank you for your covering of Lugano and Lucerne, two amazing lake cities. Especially Lucerne I see as the most beautiful city in the Switzerland as it is so historic and its Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge with Water Tower) is so unique. Even German composer Richard Wagner lived in Tribschen nearby for 6 years. On Mount Pilatus, it is such amazing view on all lakes there and Alpine background on the other side. It is also nice to hear that you are heading to Interlaken and Bernese Alps. Jungfraujoch, which was mentioned in the video, is the highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 meters (11,332 ft) above sea level, there it is Top of Europe building with ice palace and elevator to Sphinx Observatory where it is amazing view on the Aletsch Glacier, the biggest glacier in the Alps. Wengen is approximately in the halfway to Jungfraujoch if you are going there from Interlaken with a train but you can maybe somehow even manage to do maybe bus rides to Lauterbrunnen (if you want to go in Wengen way) or Grindelwald as it is still asphalt road till there but higher stations are accessible only by train or by foot. If you want a cable car, you must go to Mürren and after that it is Schilthorn Cable Car. Maybe this map will be useful for you there: www.hfsjg.ch/en/jungfraujoch/access/
Bad luck with the weather and the floods that have been pretty bad this year but now the weather seems to be nice for the next days. The lady at the railway counter was right: you can save a lot by going for special deals / tourist tickets instead of paying for each individual train ride. Cheapest way to eat are either large Coop or Migros supermarkets that also offer warm food (Chicken, Fries, Sausages, Sandwiches etc.) or turkish Take-Away places that you will find in almost all places, usually near the railway station. An amazing hike near Interlaken leads from Brienzer Rothorn (there is an old railway going up there) to Turren cable car (or vice versa), great views and easily doable by train. Greeting from Zürich.
Great video Gab, just some quick pronuncuation note: in italian "ch" is always pronounced as "k" in english, so it's "kiesa" and "Kiasso" for chiesa and Chiasso. Also the "zz" as in piazza or ragazza has a hard pronounciation, like piatt- sa. Have a nice trip!

two takeaways here: 1) Switzerland looks really really beautiful 2) you're right about it being expensive, that fish & chip meal was crazy expensive for what it was
Also, a big takeaway was that there are three language regions of Switzerland. He was asking if they speak Swiss-German in the Italian region of Switzerland. Italian in the South, German in the north and east, French in the west. English throughout.

Hi Gabe You should visit Zurich after Lucerne , there are many things to see there and also wander around the Neiderdof ( old part of the city). Then take a walk along the lake and take a tram up to Ultliberg, great views on top of the hills looking down on Zurich.
Wow, thanks for covering Lugano Gabe. Looks like a stunning little town that would otherwise not be on my radar. BTW the dates for the Jazz festival are listed (just in the European form DD/MM).
Yes, and it looks like with Italian abbreviations for days in a week. Lugano has some music tradition as it was the first host city for the Eurovision Song Contest ever (in 1956 when Switzerland won with Lys Assia-Refrain song at the Teatro Kursaal (now known as Casino Lugano). But for jazz, Swiss Montreux Jazz festival on the Lake Geneva shoreline is the second largest annual jazz festival in the world after Canada's Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Surprised you didn't spend a few days in Lugano. It looks epic. I spent 2 months in Switzerland in 1993 with a car driving around. Never made it to the Italian part. Montreux is beautiful. Bern is pretty. Grindelwald is beautiful. Went to some cool music festivals that summer. My brother was in Wengen. The whole country is epic.
Aww man, I loved Lucerne (and Switzerland in general) on my first Euro trip a few years back. You're definitely right about it being really expensive, but it was beautiful! Really looking forward to seeing you tour the Lauterbrunnen Valley area!
Hi Gabe Thats exacly how i remember Switzerland super eye wateringly expensive you could of got the same ambiance of staying by a goergous lake by staying at either Lake Garda or Lake Como for a fraction of the prices in switzerland. With swiss prices gabe it may not be that long before you end up singing for your supper like that lovely busker was doing.Only joking Gabe Haa Haa , Stay Safe, Habby Trails.
I have been both northbound from Milan and southbound from Zürich, but long before the new Ceneri and Gotthard base tunnels were opened for long distance passenger rail traffic. Sometimes I had to change trains at Chiasso. Each time I always noticed the 1930s-era statue of the two ladies "Svizzera e Italia", by Margherita Oswald-Toppi as seen @5:01. The last time I was in Chiasso and Lugano was 13th September 2011, just over ten years ago. Lugano FFS station has gone through many changes since I was there last time. I have only stayed in Lugano three times between 2000 and 2004. I like the Piazza della Riforma as seen @14:00. I also know about the Manor department store at Piazza Dante Alighieri, about 100 meters away. On Saturday 16th September 2000, I bought a point and shoot camera at that very Manor store, on sale for 60 Francs instead of the regular 100 Francs. Talk about Iceland-expensive but 40% is not a bad discount by any means. Back then, about @15:05 was a wood mockup of the San Carlino delle Quattro Fontane, set right on the lake. @17:47 best view of Monte San Salvatore. You can see the exclave of Campione d'Italia. Although it is within Switzerland, its territory is under Italian administration. It is not part of the European Union and the Swiss Franc is the official currency there - from what I remember from a visit in August 2004. Luzern is nice - I last visited in August 2017, same day as I visited the Heidi village of Maienfeld in the Bündner Land. All day it was at least drizzling. I crossed the Kappelbrücke and ended my day there with a cordon bleu - lovely Emmenthaler cheese melting in the middle - with grilled vegetables on the side and a glass of Eichhof. The next day was the 2017 Street Parade in Zürich. The day this video was uploaded, I was in the Austrian Bundesland of Vorarlberg. In particular, I was in Bregenz, to see the Seebühne which was set up to have performances of Verdi's "Rigoletto". In the meantime, the Dornier Air Museum's blimp was flying over Bregenz and I had happened to be right under it when it flew over - I had also seen it land and take off from the air museum, close to the Friedrichshafen airport. I was staying in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. I went on to Romanshorn and took a ferry back across Lake Constance to Friedrichshafen. The day was sunny, rarely above 30 degrees. Neither at Lustenau (Austria) nor St. Margrethen (Switzerland), were there any border controls, as long as my train ticket was valid for a journey on the Vorarlberg S-3 line, that was all that was important. Though I was asked for my vaccination papers in Vorarlberg before eating lunch at the Gösser Biergarten in Bregenz.
Swiss trains offer the Half Fare card pass which cost about 125 USD (to make it easier).. so all future train rides in Swiss is half the cost.. but you really have to use the trains alot to justify the $125 cost itself and using enough of trains to get it.. that why she ask you where you are going, destination and see if you are doing enough train rides to get the half fare card. Swiss transportation is probably your biggest cost while in Swiss along with everything else is expensive. definitely most expensive country on my list of 19 countries but so beautiful.
Great video, but we all should knuckle down more. For very many yr's now, whenever possible, I only use my knuckles to press buttons. I guess I'me just a knuckle-head. Happy and safe travels.....

In The Netherlands 1st and 2nd class is usually almost exactly the same, apart from a different colour seat. The only advantage 1st class offers is that you are pretty much guaranteed a seat during rush hour (most Dutch trains you cant reserve seats because most are relatively short distance).
A great pass I use in the Lauterbrunnen area is the Bernese Oberland pass through SBB. I saves soooo much than buying tickets individually. Took a bit of string out of Swiss prices.
Switzerland is a great country to visit in so many ways. Travel scenery food organisation. Expensive. But if you are smart and look around you can avoid the unbelievably high prices. You should have no trouble travelling alone. The food while expensive is of a high standard. Worth skipping a meal to eat well later on. I would highly recommend Swiss wine. Just ask for the house wine. The Swiss always promote their own produce. I love the look and feel of the Swiss francs. Enjoy your travels.
Yes, the languages spoken is dependent on region bordering other countries and English is spoken well. Switzerland was my first European destination (yeah, one of the most expensive countries). I liked Lucerne better than Zurich.

2) you're right about it being expensive, that fish & chip meal was crazy expensive for what it was
Also, a big takeaway was that there are three language regions of Switzerland. He was asking if they speak Swiss-German in the Italian region of Switzerland. Italian in the South, German in the north and east, French in the west. English throughout.
Lugano was my first ever trip abroad as a 12 year old school pupil. Can't wait to see it again after all these years!
Hello there Gabriel ,big love from Nepal and hope your having marvellous time travel is what keeps me going and your videos is what makes me feel fantastically alright ...namaste and greetings
GO RIDE THAT mile long track we're you sit on something and speed down that track it's looks a right laugh. Switzerland is the dearest place on earth. Austria has just been hit by flooding so choose your path wisely. Happy travels
I was in Lugano, it's lovely. Expensive but lovely.
If you happen to go to the french side of Switzerland, Les Diablerets near Montreux have really beautiful mountains and glaciers and all. My ex girlfriend is from there and she told me great things!
I hope you didn’t run into to much trouble with the flooding in Lucerne, and return someday under better conditions. It’s one of my personal favorites.
Hi Gaby ,
Great vlog for those beautiful countries.👌
Love to see some places in EU and glad Im following your channel..
Keep exploring..💪
Hi Gabe
You should visit Zurich after Lucerne , there are many things to see there and also wander around the Neiderdof ( old part of the city).
Then take a walk along the lake and take a tram up to Ultliberg, great views on top of the hills looking down on Zurich.
Hope the weather clears up for you G. And I hope Switzerlands scenery makes up for the high costs.
Very glad to see you back thank you
Been there couple of days back, same railway greeting from Slovakia 😀
Love that music at ending. Thanks
Another great Vlog... While walking through the train doors, I was hoping you'd have answered a call on your "shoe phone" 🤔🤣
Amazing Gabriel
should be amazing to see! I would love to live in Italy or Switzerland(and a few other places).....
Did that train ride its so clean and beautiful .
Like your get up and go attitude Gabriel, real raw travel experience.
16:48 there's loads of dates there! the first one is 03.06, that's the third of June.
I always enjoy your videos, I travel through you...Now that I cannot travel anymore, you are my oasis :) I'm looking forward to those videos of Wengen, Gabriel! Go to Gimmelwald, please...It's a paradise on Earth, especially for travellers who are alone! Have a great time! Kisses from Greece :)
Switzerland so beautiful...but expensive, i did work in Verbier for a season after Greece actually back in the day. It was a lovely experience.
When you were in Lugano, did you notice there were some semi tropical plants and shrubs?
yes there are, even banana trees. they don't bear any fruit though....
In The Netherlands 1st and 2nd class is usually almost exactly the same, apart from a different colour seat. The only advantage 1st class offers is that you are pretty much guaranteed a seat during rush hour (most Dutch trains you cant reserve seats because most are relatively short distance).
Gabriel, the front of the train is near Lucerne - just keep on a walkin'
Very nice trip! It is a pleasure to see how other people experience and present Switzerland. Great video! 👍👍😀
A great pass I use in the Lauterbrunnen area is the Bernese Oberland pass through SBB. I saves soooo much than buying tickets individually. Took a bit of string out of Swiss prices.
Gabriel make sure you go to Zermatt if you have not been.
Welcome in Schwitzerland❣Greets from Solothurn💃
Yes, the languages spoken is dependent on region bordering other countries and English is spoken well. Switzerland was my first European destination (yeah, one of the most expensive countries). I liked Lucerne better than Zurich.
Jeez Gabe .. Fish & chips & a glass of wine for $42 ?!?! 😮 I hope you enjoyed it mate. I think if I ever went to Switzerland, I'd be packing sandwiches ;) Thank You for your brilliant videos Gabe. It honestly feels like we're all travelling with you. Keep safe young man 👍
Pretty crazy eh? Switzerland is out of control expensive. But it's beautiful at least.
Traveling 🧳 by Train 🚆 Love it so interesting hope your really enjoying Your Summer Gabriel and thank you for sharing I am watching Your travels from the Mountains ⛰ of New Hampshire in America 🇺🇸 we are having nothing but rain ☔️ here it seems …Take care
Paid over €90 for a one way train ticket from Lausanne to Bern once, more expensive than my Ryanair flight to get to Switzerland from Dublin, very beautiful country but very expensive I think, nice video Gabriel 👍
It is a pity that you skipped Lago di Garda, Lago di Como and Lago Maggiore.
Bath room in the train looked nice. I think it would have been worthwhile to take a massive dump there just to make up for the high prices.
