Memory Motel, best RS ballad. Black and Blue, one of the best albums from the Stones. Mick deserves the highest level in terms of song writing, like Bernie Taupin, Dylan or other badass writers.

Jagger is a great story teller and don't need to search with who and when, just listen.

Yes, it's fits better with the lyrics.
Harvay Mandel and Wayne Perkins on guitars.
      Jagger on acoustic piano
      Richard on electric piano
      Billy Preston on synthesizer

I loved this song from day one. I didn't think much of Black + Blue {thought it was pretty shoddy} but this song saved it for me. I thought the beautiful guitar by Harvey Mandel at the end of each verse made the song. Really like Keith's vocal too {"she got a mind......."} This is one of my 10-12 favorite Stones songs. There are quite a few studio guys or "extras" who really improved songs for the Stones. Who was the female singer on Gimme Shelter? Mick called her up at about 1:00 am in the morning and said, "think you could come in an try an put a vocal on this thing we got?" She did 2-3 takes and went home. How about the soaring pedal steel guitar on Torn + Frayed? Makes the song. How about the pedal steel on Monkey Man? Just studio guys.............I wish Mick Taylor had played a couple more years with the Stones {although who knows? Maybe his best days with them were behind him.} I thought that was BY FAR the best version of the band..................One thing about this song. Who gives a shit who it was about? Never understood all that {who is "You're so Vain" about......again. What difference does it make?} People get so into "who is it about?" Oftentimes IT is about a conglomeration of people the artist has met or been exposed too. It might be about a small piece of ten women he's known.

Merry Clayton was the woman with that crazy vocal line on Gimmie Shelter.

@@Methilde Yes you're right it was Merry Clayton and what a shame she had a miscarriage right after that And she lost both of her legs in a car accident

You're correct about everything but there isn't a pedal steel guitar on "Monkey Man", that's all Keith playing guitars, Nicky Hopkins is the extra musician playing piano and Bill Wyman contributing vibraphone as well as bass

And it was some American called Al Perkins who played the lap steel guitar, not pedal steel yet, on "Torn and Frayed" from Exile On Main Street. It would be Ronnie Wood who would introduce the pedal steel guitar first on the album "Some Girls" though

The backing music is excellent, but the song lacks Keith’s powerful co-leads.
