Team,awesome work .Beautiful frames,sounds made by crickets were good enough for the music.Though venomous, beautiful snakes, its that look in their eyes which make them look like cruel guys. Habitat loss is the most pressing concern for many wildlife species increasing man-animal conflicts.We have to give these animals enough space for our mutual benefit. I actually liked Rough scaled bushviper,but when knew that their is no antivenom its quiet frightening if somebody crosses them. Kudos for the efforts put for making this video..

@@LivingZoology Yes, it certainly is! I've planned a trip to Mt. Kenya, amongst others, this year and maybe find also bushvipers there (although I know the chance is not too high). But unfortunatey it's not possible due to the corona crisis :(

Amazing video!! But...how many hours did you actually spend looking for them?? I went to Uganda a few months ago and spent about 2 weeks there (Kibale, Bwindi impenetrable, etc)... saw chimps, mountain gorillas but did not spot a SINGLE snake by myself! :/ only snake I saw was a rhino viper that a local farmer had found on his tea plantation. My dream is still to find gabonica, nasicornis and A. hispida in the wild!
We went to Uganda 3 times and together spent there together about 2 months. It is very difficult to find snakes in Africa (especially in the forests) and it takes time!!! Thank you for watching!!! :)

To get onto a team like this to do national geographic type work (not necessarily that company though) what type of studies and qualifications would you need? Also what would you be looking for in a person to be considered to be hired for this type of work? Last, how long were you all in africa to get this sort of footage? Weeks? Months? Your work is absolutely amazing and I am glad you are raising awareness to the fact that this amazing creatures could disappear from this planet completely if serious action is not taken. You have gained my respect. PS I am super impressed how just about every single comment here is replied to by you guys. I understand how difficult that must be with such a large channel, but it is really cool to see that you are so involved with your viewers.
Hello! Thank you for your comment! :) It is a tricky question, because we have never worked in a team like National Geographic. We both studied zoology in the Czech Republic (Matej is still finishing his PhD.) and during that we started our film studio. It all started with a passion and for long time it was just a hobby. For Matej it is now his main job and the journey to it took almost 10 years. We usually go to the field for a month and Matej spent more than one year of his life in Africa already. So our advice would be to do it because of passion from the start and maybe it might become a job. Thank you very much for your kind words, we appreciate them a lot! Also, part of education and spreading awareness is to be in contact with our fans and anybody who is interested in snakes. We are happy to answer every comment with some reasonable topic :)

Thank you so much for watching!!! The reason why bush vipers have extremely keeled scales is not known according to our knowledge. Probably it does not have any purpose. Sometimes we find strange features on animals without an evident evolutionary advantage behind it.
@@LivingZoology it does have a purpose and its simply a camouflage against enemies to be undetected and on the other hand for hunting purposes as well.
@@saltwaterfly1 Are there any studies about that? Why it is not present in any other arboreal vipers from rainforests? You may have a point with the camouflage, we just don't know any sources showing that it is true. These snakes live in dense forests and their color alone is a great camouflage.
@@LivingZoology I guess the rough-scaled viper can make extremely loud noise by rubbing their scales in a defense mode. I presume that pressing their rough scales a bit upward would make it very hard for a predator especially another snake to swallow them. What do you think of that?

Many small venomous snakes are like that, they simply need to be due to their size. But we like the mouth opening in Atheris, it is cool behavior!
