I can see all three working together. Perhaps when the mask comes down, the small scar across the left eye trails into a puckered facial scar across Darrow's cheek and jawline. As if something blazing hot had struck him in the face. The prince has a similar scar against his sternum. As children, perhaps, Darrow's mother was a nursemaid at the palace. Whatever the hot thing might have been, maybe even a too hot tea diffuser, struck Darrow in the face and when he screamed in pain, the tiny prince tried to comfort his playmate with a hug that burned him, too. The nursemaid and her child were then cast out from the castle and had to find ways to fend for themselves in the seedy part of the city.
I had the perfect opportunity to watch the whole thing while starting my day, which means not only did the workdsy start in a really cool way but also now these two are the only thing I can focus on right now! XD Whoops Now one of the mentioned suggestions sounded very damn familiar to me. So I am also kinda happy that it found it's way to the story one way or another and I look forward to see how you plan to work it into the story. As for the little item I had the idea it might me a vial, sealed shut with wax, containing a very dangerous poison given to the assassin by the same person of his past that yelled at him to look at them (the flashback thingy) with the not so nice advice to take it, since he either forked up so bad or cause he is so useless in the other one's eyes or something else. And he holds onto that sealed vial out of pure spite and as a reminder to keep himself in check. Just early morning brainstorming xD What the mask might reveal? Maybe we *can* combine them all 😅 So what if it is hiding something like a scar or a mark or something that makes the Assassin recognizeable IMMEDIATELY because it is a very distinctive feature of someone VERY popular or searched for. And the Prince either knows him personally and now realized or heard about him or read about him etc. That turned out more than I expected again😂
OOOHHH a vial he was supposed to drink oooo that is VERY COOL... I think the comments so far are making me lean towards combining all 3 options yeah... :)
I'm going option 1, I've been revisiting Earthsea and have Sparrowhawk in mind. I'm also thinking about the small object and trying to avoid cliché; a ring or a key or something you've seen a million times. So what about a usb? It might have info about his first target or have something he stole that's so secret that if the owner found out about he'd be done for. But then who would the owner be. I'll stop before I write a whole novel, it's your story dude, make it your own
I definitely like both options 2 and 3, they could possibly be combined in a way that they both reveal something that makes the other remember how they know each other. Really loving this story so far as well, I'm super invested. Also, have to mention how cool the fit for this video looks too
Once again, my prompts were popular enough to get in! My suggestion for the item is a small rag-doll. Maybe it was a voodoo doll of him and he's cursed in retribution for something he did. Maybe he was given it to show him what his target looked like...but he killed the WRONG PERSON. Maybe it belonged to someone he cared about or a child who accidentally got caught in the crossfire of a job. My vote for the options is all three. I think he's got some sort of old injury there, and maybe Erasmus was there when he got it, and THAT'S why the memory triggers immediately when the mask goes down. And, maybe, Erasmus has something from the same incident that he shows Darrow, and Darrow can remember him back...except when they first met, he didn't know Erasmus was the prince. Additional thing: My theory on why the brothers are whispering is that they think, like Darrow did, that Erasmus planned this, and they either think he was trying to clear the line to become King...or they know Erasmus wants to die and think this was him trying to do that, but it went wrong and their father was killed by mistake.
Crossover Request: First thought would be the last OC story time you did, Goth Boy and Garnet, and the next thought would be a cheeky nod to the Black Dog Podcast
Alternate conspiracy theory! The two brothers planned the assassination, and both the old king and Erasmus were supposed to die. The only reason that Erasmus survived is because Darrow hesitated. The king died. How did the two older brothers survive unscathed if they were not behind it?
OOOOOHH killing the wrong person is VERY angsty (love it lol) all 3 could work very well together... there's a lot could be done... The brothers are definitely thinking something dodgy is going on...
My mind immediately thought of a shruiken (5 sided ninja weapon), imbued with dark magic, given to him by a mentor or a friend. My mind legit went one piece zoro with this 😂😂😂. Also i think option 3 is good 👍. I can imagine his scar being an inferno marking despite being a prince and Erasmus reveals that he is actually a changeling who replaced the actual prince. 😳😳😳👀👀
