  • Starting in Detroit's New Center and finishing in downtown Windsor, Ontario, here is a look at Detroit Dept. of Transportation (DDOT) and Transit Windsor buses in the international region.
The main focus here is a real-time view of the ride from downtown Detroit, through the Detroit-Windsor International Tunnel, and into downtown Windsor at the toll booths and customs office. Passengers are dropped off at the customs offices on either side of the tunnel entrance, depending on direction travelled, complete their customs check, and once through, have the option of re-boarding the Tunnel Bus to be taken to another point in the downtowns of either city. The service is popular with Americans going to Windsor casinos, and with Canadians for Detroit Red Wings games and other sporting events. As well, the bus is an easy and important international link for long-distance travellers (I was using it to get from Detroit's Amtrak station to Windsor's VIA Rail station, for instance).
Aside from the Tunnel Bus (which here is being run with a 40-foot NovaBus LFS), DDOT TMC and New Flyer buses are also seen, as well as SMART (Detroit suburban transit) Gillig buses. In Windsor, a new New Flyer hybrid on the 1A-Transway route is seen at Park & Ouellette streets downtown.
    ~Thanks for watching!~

long live the RTS. Man I really hate they retired those beauties. Not just the look of them but the engine sounds along with those whining ass transmissions made for a sexy vehicle and one hellava ride. RIP RTS

In case you're wondering about the passport check
There is no passport check when leaving the United States or Canada
but there is a passport check when arriving in Canada or the U.S. and you need to get off the bus to clear the customs and then you return to the bus

As someone who has used the tunnel bus before, I can confirm that it’s true. When you arrive in Canada, or the U.S. via the tunnel bus, you have to get off the bus, go through customs, and then get back on the bus.

The tunnel here is also one of the only international sub aqueous tunnels that you can drive through in the world.

Thanks for posting this. I need to get from Detroit to Toronto, and it seems the best way is to go: Detroit>>Windsor>>Toronto. It's pretty cheap, like $36.

If you are transferring from Amtrak Detroit station to VIA rail Windsor station take the tunnel bus.Walk out of Amtrak station get on the Q-line street car in front of the Amtrak station heading south towards downtown.Get off at the last stop Congress street stop, walk a very short block over on Larned street towards Griswold street. On Griswold street you see a Domnio's pizza store and a tunnel bus stop in front of this store wait for tunnel bus at this location.Get on tunnel bus go thru canada customs get back on tunnel bus get off at first stop Mc Dougall and Wyandotte, cross the street on Wyandotte same side as Mc Donalds wait for crosstown 2 bus get on bus (the crosstown 2 bus runs down Wyandotte street ) get off at Walker Rd.You will see a Tim Hortons at Walker RD and Wayndotte right behind the Tim Hortons on Walker RD is the VIA rail station. Q-line street car $1.50,Tunnel bus $5.00,Crosstown 2 bus $3.00, you dont need pay uber or lyft or a cab $60 or more just go less than 10 miles between rail stations, all 3 modes runs every 10 min,30min.

This needs to be written better.
      It's very convoluted.

Thanks for the detailed information. I have visited Detroit and wondered if there was any way to get to the Windsor VIA train station. It would make an interesting way to get to Toronto rather than having to take Amtrak to Buffalo and transfer there to the train tomToronto.

Question: Customs on both sides of the border never asked for Passports?

Hi. 8 years later lol. But Yes. passengers get on and off on both sides for screening before the bus leaves customs.

too bad the tunnel bus does not drop off at the windsor train station. it drops off like a mile from it forcing me to take a cab accross the border which with tip will run around $145 USD

You could've gotten off at Wyandotte & McDougal Sts. in City Centre, then taken the #2 Tecumseh Mall bus down Wyandotte Street to the station.

Why not take a cab from the transit center, where it does drop off?

What do you need to go through Customs on both sides if you're an American ?

    • @yjwrangler7819
      @yjwrangler7819 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

A passport? Being American doesn't make things different. You won't get in to either country without one.
