I enjoy whiskey review videos (especially you two) but after trying about 60 different whiskeys now, I've come to realize that it means nothing what others think. That said, I love Rebel 100... it satisfies me better than anything I've found regardless of price. But I do love my local $18.99 price. Again I really like what you guys do, but it's pure entertainment to me... actually tasting whiskey yourself is the only real way to learn : )
I tried this last year and it was...fine. Nothing special, good in cocktails or as a summer rocks sipper at the proof, but not a neat pour. Would rather have Four Roses yellow label or Evan Williams BiB for a similar price. WT 101 is more likely to be 30 than 20 these days. My local store said that an across the board WT price increase was on the way so stock up while you can. Thanks for keeping up the budget series, would rather have 10 of these than a review of a bottle I will never find/can't afford anyway.
I picked up a bottle of Rebel 100 about 8 months ago. Initially I was rather MEH on it. I like wheaters, and saw good reviews on it. I left it on the shelf for about 6-7 months after getting slightly past the shoulder. I recently went back. and it had improved significantly. I'd recommend going back in 5-6 months and revisit it. I also just picked up the Rebel Small Batch Reserve, but haven't cracked it yet. Keep the great content coming 🥃❤️🥃
FYI: Lux Row has a couple limited release Rebels that I believe are "Germany exclusives" finished in tawny port and cognac casks. I got the port version a few months ago and like it a lot. The finish adds depth and richness without completely dominating the bourbon. You might be able to find a source in the US.
Great pour. Bought a bottle years ago on a whim and loved it, friend did the same, and it actually won my most recent yearly tournament of "bourbons" 80-100ish proof. BTW, I've seen it as low as $13.
Got a bottle of this and was pleasantly surprised, better than I expected. Got 2 barrel proof bottles and like them a lot more but one was twice as much and the other one 2.5 times but it's a store pick.
I picked up a bottle a few weeks ago. Looking forward to cracking it open. I'm not expecting it to be a go to for a sipper but more of a mixer for old fashioneds.
Not budget friendly, but had to share! Scored my my 1st Buffalo Trace Antique Collection bottle! Hit the Pa Lottery and got a Thomas H Handy at MSRP! Love to send you a sample if you would like! Love your content and as you guys love to share!
Yep Rebel is wheated... I used the local pick of Cask Str rebel as the high proof part of a "Prudent Pappy" Blend (50/50 rebel cask and larceny small batch)... turned out delicious.
This is one of your first videos that I have seen, well done.👍 I like wheat, and I like Rebel Yell although Larceny is my favorite “popular priced” pour. Let me suggest - no let me challenge you to an experiment that some home distillers use. Poor that bottle of rebel into a quart jar leaving a little in the bottle to compare. I use one that had commercial moonshine in it because of the top. add a handful of shards from a number three char barrel I got at a distillery visit. Of course, Oak whiskey, aging cubes and spears are available at local brewery, shops, or online. Then Imicrowave 😮 on high for about three minutes. You want to bring it up to 150° to help burn off any methanol left in the liquid. Then leave it open to rest for about 30 minutes then replace the cap this for three days so you’ve got about 10 minutes invested in the experiment Then you let it sit on that oak shaking every once in a while. Do a taste test at the end of the month. See if you can tell a difference continue to let it age with an occasional taste until it comes up to something that you like. Congratulations! Custom crafted bourbon. (I did the same thing with a $17 bottle of Total Liquor Irish Whiskey. Took a few months to bring it up CLOSE to Jamison Black)
I heard a lot about this, so I got one a few months ago and it was...fine. I like some wheated bourbons, so I was interested to try this one. Nothing impressive, but it wasn't horrible. Just not a lot of depth of flavor or even any singular distinct flavor that makes me come back to it. I get drawn back to other bourbons, but I honestly forget I have this most of the time.
Thanks good review been circling this one for a minute but think I am going to go for the upgrade I have the cask strength for about 40 its good but does not blow me away.
Ive never tried the Rebel 100, but that's only because it's not the true budget pour (where I live in NY) but Fighting Cock is, its 103 proof and $4 cheaper. I wouldn't drink it neat, over ice is ok, but in an old fashioned isn't bad. I haven't had a bottle of FC in several months because I would just rather drink a better and higher (proof) quality bourbon, and I have "currently" about 40 or so bottles to choose from. 🥃Cheers!
Josh, another telling off ,, funny to be told what’s in the glass , not the glass. You guys are so good. Love the budget content too, a lot of folks don’t have a lot to burn these day , Enjoy
I have had two bottles of this. Not too bad. It is down to the last of the Heaven Hill sourced distillate. I have heard theLuxco distillate is pretty good too.
I know that you two have talked about Evan Williams BIB but have you tried Evan Williams 1783. It’s another great budget bourbon and I think it’s better on the nose and palate than the BIB. I liked mines so good after trying for the first time I immediately went out and bought a second bottle. Anyway keep up the good work.
Another great upload. Haven't tried Rebel and a few years back this might have been enough to just go out and buy one especially considering the easy price. but... It took about 5 years, but I've discovered cheap bottles I used to like, I don't like anymore. Sadly[?], fewer and fewer under $50 bottles work for me now. If I see it a in a bar, maybe I'll ask for a pour.
@@stuffandwhiskey not too different for me here in central CA. For bourbon, $40 to $70 is where I think I’ll find most of the value oriented stuff that has a good chance of tasting good. For scotch, you realistically need to start at $50 to find something full flavored. $90 is where I’d like to cap things off but it’s common now for me to spend $130 on a scotch and feel like I got my moneys worth.
I've passed Rebel 100 by many times. I just got really bored with lower proof wheaters. Now SLB did a review of the Rebel Reserve SB 110p. That one sounds pretty good. And it's right at the $30 mark.
Love hearing about good whiskey at a great price. Save the Friday night pour for Friday! I'm going to Los Angeles on business in April. Do you know of any good distillery tours out there?
Honestly we haven’t heard much about California whiskey outside of Redwood Empire and Corbin Cash, and don’t know if either of those are close to LA, but they’re worth checking out if so.
OG 114 is a good choice! I also keep WT 101 and OF 100 Rye as staples in my bar. All are good neat. OG is my choice with cola, and OF 100 Rye works great in Old Fashioned and Manhattans.
Distribution can definitely vary pretty widely. We have heard of markets without it and others with it being allocated, even though it sits on shelves here (Nashville, TN).
Also, rebel had just released a new bottle. I think they are calling it a small batch maybe? But its supposed to be around $35 and really good for the price
I tried this last year. I generally like wheated bourbons but I would not have guessed this was a wheated bourbon from the taste. It came across as a bit harsh. Not bad but rather mediocre. I’d rather have Old Forester 100, Old Tub, or EW BiB for the same or less money in my state.
I'm new to bourbon, and I don't have a wide range of experience. Some days I may like a bourbon, and some days it doesn't fit my tastes. Rebel 100 is one that never tastes good to me. It's the only one so far that is true for.
If it’s not clearly better than Early Times, WT101 or Evan Williams BiB then it’s an absolute no for me. Only need a few budget bottles in the whiskey room personally.
Before y'all say a single word - Rebel 100 is definitely good stuff. And if anyone doesn't like it, I just feel sorry for 'im. 😀 3:13 When people say "I have thoughts," it reminds me of my younger daughter when she was a kid. She would say, "I haveded a thought." 🙂 5:21 I put Rebel 100 in the same category as Evan Williams BiB and Wild Turkey 101, along with Old Forester 100. I guess it suits my palate better than it suits y'all's. 🥃
I see this all the time at the local store and I have yet to try it. Now I am torn if I should pick it up. I am a cheap-skate though according to my family and friends so I will probably like it LOL

My budget pick is Fighting Cock. $18 price point, 103 pf, a blend of 2 and 6 year old bourbon
I picked up a bottle of Rebel 100 about 8 months ago. Initially I was rather MEH on it. I like wheaters, and saw good reviews on it. That said, JTS Brown the budget bottle that slays them all.
My best budget find, Knob Creek 7yr Rye on sale at my Kroger for $14.99
Sheesh that’s a steal! They’re $60ish here I believe. Congrats!
@@stuffandwhiskey $35 here in Louisville (Total Wine). Stock up next time you're here in town.
It's good stuff - but I've never seen it anywhere near that cheap. 🙂
Was that a 375ml bottle? I saw a 375 for $17.99 where I live.
Great pour. Bought a bottle years ago on a whim and loved it, friend did the same, and it actually won my most recent yearly tournament of "bourbons" 80-100ish proof. BTW, I've seen it as low as $13.
$13 is a crazy steal for the quality of the pour!
Got a bottle of this and was pleasantly surprised, better than I expected. Got 2 barrel proof bottles and like them a lot more but one was twice as much and the other one 2.5 times but it's a store pick.
I love their cask strength picks. For $50-55, cant beat them
We’ve got a few barrel picks from local stores for $40-60 that are super high value!
I picked up a bottle a few weeks ago. Looking forward to cracking it open. I'm not expecting it to be a go to for a sipper but more of a mixer for old fashioneds.
I alway keep a bottle of two of this around for sipping and mixing.. makes great Old Fashion.
Not budget friendly, but had to share! Scored my my 1st Buffalo Trace Antique Collection bottle! Hit the Pa Lottery and got a Thomas H Handy at MSRP! Love to send you a sample if you would like! Love your content and as you guys love to share!
That’s amazing man! Massive congrats!
At 100 proof and $20 it makes a great Old Fashioned.
Yep Rebel is wheated... I used the local pick of Cask Str rebel as the high proof part of a "Prudent Pappy" Blend (50/50 rebel cask and larceny small batch)... turned out delicious.
I get little shooters of Rebel 100 for 1.00 when I want something different and proofed nice for sipping/large rock
This is one of your first videos that I have seen, well done.👍

It’s not a bad bourbon for the dollar figure and does mix well . Cheers
Will have to give it a shot. Since discovering Early Times BiB I haven’t bothered trying anything else. ET BiB is so good…..
I know that you two have talked about Evan Williams BIB but have you tried Evan Williams 1783. It’s another great budget bourbon and I think it’s better on the nose and palate than the BIB. Yep we’re fans of 1783. Great solid easy sipper and very high value.

We feel your pain there. The idea of the best price margin of bottles that truly impress you would be interesting. For us it may be $60-120.

Walmart in Neosho, Mo doesn't have it now
Likely just out of stock temporarily. They’re still making it. Things come and go in stock from time to time. Cheers and thanks for watching!

For me, it's hard to beat Old Grandad 114. $22-$26 in my area and 114 proof. Fine for my pallette as a neat pour.
OG 114 is a good choice! I also keep WT 101 and OF 100 Rye as staples in my bar. All are good neat. OG is my choice with cola, and OF 100 Rye works great in Old Fashioned and Manhattans.
I bought a bottle a year or so ago and it's not for my palate. The Early Times BIB is a hitter in this price range.
If you can find Early Times Bottle and Bond. Where I am it as in the allocated case.
Distribution can definitely vary pretty widely. We have heard of markets without it and others with it being allocated, even though it sits on shelves here (Nashville, TN).
Try it in an old fashion. i even experimented with a manhattan using sweet and dry vermouth..
Also, rebel had just released a new bottle. I think they are calling it a small batch maybe? But its supposed to be around $35 and really good for the price
I like this stuff a lot
It's the best I have drank with Pepsi, except Old Charter
It’s really good in an old fashioned
Its ok. Id rate it 6.5 out of 10. 10 is double oak Woodford.
Maybe me but I thought it was trash. Didn't know it was a wheater which I usually enjoy
I agree, it’s not bad. However, I’d rather buy something else, like Evan Williams or Buffalo Trace for $25
It's perfect for mixing in cocktails. Definitely wouldn't drink it straight though.
I'm new to bourbon, and I don't have a wide range of experience. Some days I may like a bourbon, and some days it doesn't fit my tastes. Rebel 100 is one that never tastes good to me. It's the only one so far that is true for.
Sometimes it’s a bottle/batch thing and sometimes it’s a distillery’s profile. Either way, it’s good to know to help inform future purchases. Cheers!
I’ll say it again…Rebel 100 is the greatest WL107 replacement out there…pure cherry cola notes for me
Wish we had gotten cherry cola. Thats a personal favorite note (Josh speaking). Will definitely revisit it with that in mind!
I don’t mind it for $20…Glad Erin didn’t get the usual wheater funk 😂 but I’m with Erin, put it with another $20 and get something different.
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
If it’s not clearly better than Early Times, WT101 or Evan Williams BiB then it’s an absolute no for me. Only need a few budget bottles in the whiskey room personally.
Exactly! Hard to dethrone the budget kings.
Before y'all say a single word - Rebel 100 is definitely good stuff. And if anyone doesn't like it, I just feel sorry for 'im. 😀

for my the Best
Was waiting for life is like a box of chocolates
Such a missed opportunity on our part!
I tried & didn't like it at all. I 'll stick with Evan Williams bib & any of the Benchmarks for my budget bottles.
I agree with any of the Benchmarks!
Benchmarks are interesting. They haven’t been available in our market but just recently came in stock. Stay tuned!
Old GrandDad 114
is it just me or do yall hate on wheaters alot?
Hate? Personally preferences ≠ hate. Just sayin.
I get cinnamon on Rebel100
We can see that!
Rebel 100 and rebel 100 Rye in Southern California is $12 right now. Best deal out there
David Nicholson 1843 is a budget banger
I see this all the time at the local store and I have yet to try it. Now I am torn if I should pick it up. I am a cheap-skate though according to my family and friends so I will probably like it LOL
It’s nothing mind-bending but with low expectations we weren’t mad about it. We do need to try it in some cocktails as well.
