I bought this and followed these directions and it sat for 3 days after installation before I went fishing. It didn't even last one fishing trip. When I got to shore to load up it was about half off. It continued to fall off just sitting on the kayak trailer at home over the next day or two. Currently I'm trying to get it to stay on with some silicone glues I had around the house already, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to purchase some special marine grade glue to hold it on. So warning to others thinking about buying this, it may not hold to your kayak well (or at all) with the included glue strips. It is a nice piece of rubber though and I really want to get it on my kayak. Just know you may have to spend even more to get some glue to hold it on. FYI I have a FeelFree Moken 12.5v2
I just came across this and it looks like a good protector. I get keel rash on my kayak mostly on concrete boat ramps. How long might one of these last? I try to get out twice per week.
It mainly depends on how much you drag the front. Also how hard you come up on the ramp. But most of the time we change it about once every two years. But if you use it a lot could be once a year.
I've made a couple of these.. you can follow the basic instructions in the link.. mod for your width of kayak.. I use the 13inch wheels in place of 10. Installed my keel guard on Saturday just like this video. Went kayak fishing yesterday and while loading up after fishing I noticed it was no longer on my yak. :(
@@OneObjectiveMessaged you 3 weeks ago, never got a reply. In the mean time I purchased the gator guard kayak keel guard for $20 more. After 2 weeks of usage since I installed it I can say from recent experience your product is trash. I didn’t have to heat the rubber with a ridiculous heat gun, it’s not bonded by a strip of gorilla glue and best of all it’s still on my kayak.
You really don’t need it on a kayak really for one. Because we have put them thru a lot and don’t ever have fading issues. But 303 Soaks in the plastics and after a while can cause break down issues in the plastic. If there is any thing you want to stick to the kayak after you put it on you will have issues.

I like the product not sure if I had a bad piece but the back glue part completely peeled away from the rubber part right from the get so made it impossible to fix. I’m a pretty handy guy and have dealt with many products like this. I just think mine was a bad piece and wish I had a re due for the 50$ price.

If my kayak already has a good amount of rash on the keel, should I sand a lot of that roughness off to get it fairly smooth?

Once you stick it on. Put it in the sun for about 45 min or so just make sure sets up good
