It is so badass that you DON'T want to take sponsorships b/c you want TH-cam channel to be your place of authentic expression and community.
I'm super here to support your language learning journey and life goals

i LOVE what you said about not wanting to be palatable to advertisers and wanting to be more political. it is so hard living in this capitalist hellscape and so refreshing to see content creators being true to their values and just generally being kickass. good luck with your goals!!!! i can't wait to see how your year goes :)

You just gained a subscriber because of your willingness to be authentic regarding your politics and the vision you have for your channel. I've been studying French on my own for a few years and have hit the intermediate plateau. I found you because of your review of Babbel Live versus Lingoda. I'll be a forever subscriber now.

I hope you are having a fantastic time in Spain! I love swapping goals for things you are excited about. So here are language things I am excited about: very slowly listening to Radio ambulante episodes, finding some awesome books in Spanish and French for my 2024 TBR, reading my first book in Irish before the end of the year and then more next year, dabbling in Italian with my husband, and my six year old being interested in studying Somali and French with me.
In terms of multiple languages, I am currently coming to terms with not starting my next language right away in January as I had planned. I haven't made as much progress as I would like in the last two languages I started, so I'm going to pause my next new language. I might still dabble, but I'm going to wait to really add it until I feel ready instead of just going by the calendar. I look forward to hearing about how adding languages goes for you.
Thank you for the transparency on your policies in terms of sponsors, affiliate links, etc. I don't have ideas for Patreon, but book clubs in any form sound fun.
Also, I appreciate you speaking up about Palestine and the complete lack of engagement from the language learning community in anything remotely sociopolitical other than very surface level discussions of language extinction. I look forward to seeing how you engage with things especially based on the languages you study.

Oooo first book in Irish is so exciting!!! That is so cute to work on languages with your kid/s 😍
it is very impressive how many languages you already work on, so I totally understand needing to sit tight for a minute :0
thanks so much! I am looking forward to working on things differently & im always open to feedback as well.

Some really awesome and in depth insights here. loved listening to the whole video!
I've always wanted to see someone who learns/speaks Spanish tackle Arabic. As I feel the dialects and differences in Arabic throw a lot of people off (myself included). And would be interesting to see your approach given the Spanish has oh so very many dialects too

thank you!! I would be really interested to go from Spanish to Arabic as well, there are tons of words in Spanish with Arabic origin/influence so I think that would be really interesting to see

@@joreneelanguages oh yes! that is such a cool element of it too. Because the influence on Spanish would be quite an old I imagine, so would be interesting to see how that's represented too. All the very best!

When you read a book and you come across a word you can't understand, do you look it up, or just keep going?

    • @joreneelanguages
      @joreneelanguages  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

it depends! if I’m curious about it, I look it up, & if I can’t understand the sentence/where the plot is going without it then I look it up. but I don’t look up everything I don’t understand

I find it really hard to study multiple languages. It seems like I can only do one at a time which means the others are going to waste 😂. So sad. I think you’ll like French a lot. I loved reading French when I studied it briefly in college.

I didn’t think I was going to struggle because I’ve always been *interested* in learning multiple at a time, but I have not successfully made it work yet 😆 we’ll see if 2024 is the year!!
