@@chri-k there was a weird situation going on at home and I needed to get the chemistry stuff out of the house for a bit cause while none of it was illegal when one of the people is smoking cocaine they can be a bit unpredictable so the chemistry stuff had to go for a while cause I didn't want to deal with explaining it to the cops if he made up some crazy story like he had been about other people but was somewhat in the middle of something so I finished it off in the parking lot a couple miles out of town so I wouldn't be interrupted lol unfortunately spilled some solvent into the safe I was transporting the stuff in but oh well. Honestly don't even fully remember what I was in the middle of at this point since it's been like 4 or 5 years

When I first started watching chem vids, only Nurd Rage was around, then like Doug's lab shows up and though he was not around too long, his stuff was very approachable most of the time. Nile Red is great though. I mean young age, turns aspirin to tylenol and piss to sweethner, makes soap, turns it back in to oil and makes fries. Nile is the essence of chemistry being a bit like lego blocks and why precursor laws are defeated. EnF is like the essence of how chemistry is horrible. He is the real world where you get so pissed off that yellow becomes pain and suffering.

Between the smell of sulfur chlorides and the toxicity of ketene I think I'd go with ketene to be honest.

I have recently encountered a paper that states that oxidizing primary alcohols with TCCA in DCM could yield first the aldehyde, and then the corresponding acyl chlorides. However, the main problem to this method is that the acyl chloride reacts spontaneously with the leftover alcohols to form esters. If there is a method to separate out the acetyl chloride from the ethanol, then this may be a viable way to make acetyl chloride and also acetic anhydride (via the classic sodium acetate +acetyl chloride route).

Well, you can always start with the aldehyde instead since a lot of TCCA gets wasted just to oxidise the alcohol.

@@EddieTheH Yes. Acetic anhydride is a necessary chemical for producing proper 3,6 diacetylmorphine (Heroin™) which is why it is a List chemical (Watched closely by the DEA). And a Heroine (with an E at the end) is the feminine form of Hero. The joke is that I imply a substance dependence, but elaborate that it's actually about TV and movies.
The neighbor problem could be addressed by massively scaling up either process .

what does a liter of Acetyl Chloride cost for you? Its 45€ where im from. Not cheap or anything, but I mean a liter is more than enough for all uses any home chemist should ever have so I think its quite affordable actually

You want to warm the anhydride up a little before trying to ignite it . Cold acetic anhydride is very difficult to set alight, but when it does burn it burns just like your first attempt did . If you put a few mls in a spoon and warm it up it will burn very weakly releasing fumes that will make your eyes water and sting , it also will separate in water until it turns into acetic acid

Evil stuff, fumes like Heck in damp air and attacks all sorts. I sampled some acetic anhydride waste once with a view to disposal. I had to drive my van 30 miles with both windows down to avoid the choking fumes.
And yes, it does smell like acetic acid but times three to five I reckon.

"now" I've probably been on watch lists since highschool with some of the stuff I accidentally learned online, like there was a page talking about a bunch of different weapons systems of the military and such a with subpages for all of them and then there was one just labeled ricin so I'm expecting it to be talking about like the uses of it in warfare or something but nah it was a fuckin step by step guide for making it -_- and that's one of the ones they're real strict on, if I had ordered anything needed for that in the same timespan the FBI would absolutely have been at the door

They knew the proportions in which you combine the elements but not yet the number of atoms in a single molecule. That's the same reason why NaHCO3 is sodium bicarbonate, it has twice the amoubt of carbonate per sodium atoms as sodium carbonate (Na2CO3).

@@lagrangiankid378 Morphine and even fentanyl are used for many different cases where someone is in extreme pain, such as after invasive surgery or severe burns. In a medical setting where the dose is controlled very carefully they're perfectly safe.
@@lagrangiankid378 yeah for people who are on hospice care in their own homes even though legally they're not supposed to they typically leave the entire bottle of morphine so the patient can decide to take a fatal amount if they decide they are ready to go cause going through the process for assisted suicide where it is legal is a lot of work especially when you're already on death's door and if you're already dying it's not the governments place to say you can't decide when and how to die in my view

You could use Silver Acetate, which damn near costs as much as gold, or Phosphorus Pentoxide which is cheaper, but still not cheap ($40 for 100g).

Yeah or you could get some mandelic acid, reduce it with HI to form phenylacetic acid, then react with AA from this video for phenylacetone, then react with methylamine from acid hydrolyzed hexamine and mercury aluminum amalgam for some fancy methamphetamine.

easy, from my experienc acetic anhydrate should have subtle sweet scent, nothing even close to acetic acid. I worked in place that produce chemical reagents (I bet 100$ you know this producent - Red logo starting with "ch") - I dont recommend this producent

Why don’t you just look up how it’s done in Afghanistan? It’s a crude process, but it seems to work for them. You should just make meth in the case of the apocalypse, it’s much easier to make than methylphenidate and is more potent.
