I started writing and Rhetoric last year with my 5th grader. We did books 1&2. We love it and are continuing this school year with books 3&4. Now I am going to go use it for my other daughter and start her in book 7&8.
I really like the idea of doing these in shorter burst of time. Personally, I enjoy doing several short studies with children to focus on various skills in most subjects. It seems to give that new exciting feel multiple times during the year and children enjoy having change throughout the year as well.
Wow sounds like alot of work! I have so many comments hopefully I can come back to write them later. We use writing and rhetoric and also writing revolution as well ❤
I am starting Writing & Rhetoric - book 1 this year with my rising 5th grader and am really looking forward to it. I have heard a lot of people advise to skip level 4 Chreia. Did you have the same negative experience with that book?
So I have some questions about Writing and Rhetoric: 1. How long does it take each day to do a lesson? 2. Does the student actually write a paper or is it more like workbook activities?
For us, we spend between 30 and 40 minutes per day. A single lesson spans multiple days worth of work. As far as we've gotten (halfway through book 5) it's been mainly writing exercise (within the student workbook) and curriculum-lead discussions. I have had my son type of a few of his compositions as papers but, thus far, there have not been many of those. When we finish this book I'll have to do an overall review of the level and I'll keep that question in mind and count up how many original compositions he ends up writing.
@@landofkakiakahomeschool Thanks for the quick reply! I am still trying to figure out my 8th graders Language Arts curriculum, my son is a fairly good writer so I didn't want a writing curriculum. I just wanted something that I could use like you said "cross-curriculum". I purchased Critical Thinking company's Building Writing Skills to keep his writing skills fresh but not sure what else to use (without overwhelming him).

You should listen to Schole Sisters podcast on the Progymnasmata (what Writing and Rhetoric is based on)! You’d love it!!
@@Busy.and.Blessed oh I’ll look it up! Thank you!

Oh no, we liked it. I wonder what they didn't like about it.
