    Glad you got your motor fixed and are again underway! Sometimes it's discouraging to do so much work on an engine only for something else to crop up! I've only recently subscribed but am enjoying your videos and the cool places you visit and document. I've been sailing since high school and at present I live, work, and sail in Juneau Alaska, where humpback whales, seals, sea lions, and eagles abound. Keep up the good work on your boat and she'll certainly continue to reward your efforts!

    I love Langkawi. 14 days of pure ecstasy at the Burau Bay Resort. Unfortunately that little period set me a very hight standard when it comes to vacations.

      +Mauro Pignoletti [Liz] There's lots to see on Langkawi. Taking in the view from all four sides of the tower, while sipping cinnamon tea at Gunung Raya is probably my favourite.

    +Beemerupscottie, we can't seem to reply to your comment directly, but thanks for your concern. You're right, we should wear goggles. We remove all jewellery as we've heard stories about people arcing their watch to their wrist etc. At the moment we don't save rain water but that's mainly because we don't have a large surface area to do so. When we put our storm covers on, that could be the time to catch rain. We do put buckets out, which we then use to wash ourselves down (and if it's dark we'll have showers in squalls too). A friend of ours has a hard bimini (much larger surface area than we could fit on Esper) and he filled a 44 gallon drum in one downpour, so we should be rigging something up. We just don't have any solid surface area other than the deck.

    You're both fun! We've been following you since the Red Sea podcast days. Loved the rock pools and Rock slide and the little kid at the end of the video with the goggles and helmet shouting "Follow the Boat"!

      Hey Trio Travels. Wow, that's a long time following, thank you! We loved doing those podcasts too but they are more time consuming than the videos, and less accessible to many ppl too, for some reason. I think the real little kid in the video was Jamie on the rock slide!

    The boat maintenance portions of the videos I find most fascinating. Having been involved in aerospace most of my working career, I find boats, especially sail boats especially akin to aircraft. Corrosion control and especially stringent routine maintenance seem to be the key to project success. I'm particularly interested to see the portion of your videos that deal with the engine and mechanical systems. Hopefully I will find them along the way. Thanks again for the wonderful videos.

      [Liz] Oh boat maintenance is a recurring theme on followtheboat, haha! Try the 'Boat Maintenance and Technical' playlist...

    FYI when you believe you've gotten air I. The fuel system or you run it dry , you fill all the fuel filters and use diesel starter fluid and spray it in the air intake and just spray in enough to keep it running tell the idle smooths out and your good to go if it don't smooth out it's probably bad fuel check it if you do this you'll never need to bleed the fuel lines agine

    Happy Birthday Liz. Again nice boost to tourism of Langkawi Island. Telaga Marina may have better food; but likely has less mechanical trades, and certainly higher mooring fees. Another quality FTB video

      Hi Ken Lynch. Yep, I think Langkawi has had enough promotion for one day. A shame we don't get a cut from the tourist board ;) Next few episodes we start making some progress into Thailand, and about time too. Thanks for watching and thanks for the bday wishes.

      Thanks for the birthday wishes, it was a lovely day. The three marinas work out at roughly the same price, but RLYC is handier for supplies (a walk). Each has its good points. Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)

    Bleeding hell you guys have some wicked bad luck.... On the other hand you must've also made some very good money investments as it can't be cheap, what with the refit and all the subsequent problems, good to have Millie helping with the maintainence....
    Fair winds to you.

      Warren, you of all people know that owning a boat is all about tearing up money and dropping it into a bottomless pit, or something like that! Millie is more patient at boat maintenance than either of us, it has to be said ;) legend343

    Hi loved the refit and caught up with every video till now. Regarding your batteries, I know the cost is high, but are lithium batteries not more suitable.

    Thanks for sharing another nice episode.
    By the way, you have only 220 Ah of battery power. For some stupid reason batteries are not rated in Joules (or watt-hours or kilowatt-hours) but in Ampere hours. If they were rated in kWh you would be right in adding up the energy of all batteries. However, when you put batteries in series the ampere-hours do not add up. Obviously the energy does add up: Watt-hours equals voltage times ampere-hours. Since the voltage doubles, the energy doubles while the ampere-hours stay the same.
    I think this is important since we sailors, and everyone else for that matter, tend to use ampere-hours to manage our battery energy. Please use 220 Ah in your calculations to avoid nasty surprises.

    • @followtheboat
      @followtheboat  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bor the Wolf. What you say is correct. However we do have a 440Ah battery bank because what I said in the video clip was incorrect! Each battery is 220Ah. So that's 220 + 220 = 440Ah at 6v. x2 again to get the total of all four batteries at 6v = 880Ah, then divide by two to get to 12v = 440Ah. I should add an annotation to the video to avoid further confusion. Thanks for highlighting this point.

    I'm not being critical, just trying to be helpful but did you just replace high pressure steel lines with low pressure rubber??? and no clamps to boot???
    This looks very dangerous guys, I'm not sure I saw what I think I saw but but if I did, you should rethink this right away.

    Perkins... the worst engine I ever worked on.

    • @followtheboat
      @followtheboat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi jvo0311. Was it a 4108? I heard that's a pretty bad marine engine. We're a Prima M60, but since this is the only diesel engine we've owned and worked on, we don't know any different.

    • @jvo0311
      @jvo0311 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      followtheboat I worked on both the 4108 is better than the prima. I don't trust the timing belt or aluminum head. I've taken apart the m50 and m60 many times. They are just not my favorite.

      @followtheboat  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the engine starts falling apart, we'll document it in our videos and come looking for you for answers, jvo0311 ;)
