  • Learn how the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), on behalf of HHS, is streamlining health care electronic transactions by enforcing the HIPAA Administrative Simplification requirements. Visit go.CMS.gov/AdminSimp to find out more.
To reduce paperwork and streamline business processes across the health care industry HIPAA and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) set national standards for electronic transactions, code sets, and unique identifiers. HIPAA Administrative Simplification includes provisions that the ACA expanded in 2010. ACA also introduced the adoption of operating rules to standardize electronic business practices.
Health care providers, health plans, clearinghouses, and other HIPAA-covered entities must comply with HIPAA Administrative Simplification. The requirements apply to all providers who conduct electronic transactions, not just providers who accept Medicare or Medicaid.

This video is outdated. There is no such tab named "Enforcement."

While the concept of administrative simplification is brilliant. CMS failed to properly oversee its implementation, or to mandate compliance. This should come as no surprise since CMS elected to outsource the enforcement of administrative simplification to a private tech company with no understanding or knowledge of healthcare transactions/administrative simplification. Millions of tax dollars WASTED.
